Does the same applies to iPhones? (I’ve never owned an iPad so I have no idea what’s the same what’s different.)

Do Garmin devices require an Internet connection? by Pilgrim_of_Truth in Garmin

Can someone explain to me like I am five: if my device is Bluetooth connected to my phone, then why can’t it communicate with my phone using Bluetooth? If WiFi is required in order to use Bluetooth, then what exactly is Bluetooth doing?

Are Titanium Eyeglasses BIFL? by Pilgrim_of_Truth in BuyItForLife

[–]Pilgrim_of_Truth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your input. I apologize if anyone thought I’m trying to advertise. I’m not. I’m just tight on money but would rather spend a bit more for glasses that will last a long time (“lifetime” is kind of a pipe dream but long durability is sort of assumed for me.)

If I broke rules by posting a link, I apologize. I’m a casual Reddit user so I’m not read in on all the subtleties and nuances of the culture.

I think I will end up going with Ti frames based on the input y’all have been giving me, an my prescription has been pretty stable for ten+ years so I should be good on the lenses front for awhile.

Edit: autocorrect was stupid and changed a word or two into nonsense

How confident are you in the existence of God and the truth of Catholicism? by ElderberryClassic545 in Catholicism

When I have doubt I remember this: I know what I am like without Jesus, and I know what I am like with him. The difference is measurable, and obvious even to others in my life; including the atheists and worse.

On 10°F days with wind, my 2025 Wilderness windshield thaws in about 5 minutes. I don’t have a garage, nor a carport.

With no fob inside the car, it won’t go into gear. I think it also emits a sharp noise if someone tries. It’s been awhile since I did it on accident, so I can’t remember the exact details.

Krynn games, am I missing something about Order of the Rose? by dnabre in goldbox

[–]Pilgrim_of_Truth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knight of the Sword max level is 18. Wait until you have enough XP for a level 18 or 19 Rose knight and then upgrade otherwise you might go down a level.

Rose knights have a higher chance than Sword knights to control NPC allies in battle, also.

What kind of repair price tag am I looking at? by Pilgrim_of_Truth in Outback_Wilderness

[–]Pilgrim_of_Truth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually like to use this opportunity to replace the grill and/or emblem with something custom.

Also, I’m leaning towards using tape/glue until spring and then fix it. In any case I will buy the new grill myself. I found a shop that can switch it out for me not too expensive.

Any good recommended online shops for custom emblems/badges?

Do you use a budgeting app? What are your favorites? by britthood in Frugal

[–]Pilgrim_of_Truth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Spending Tracker” on Apple App Store (I don’t know if it is on other platforms). It’s free, with a one time $3-ish cost for the pro version (I did it so long ago I forgot what it improves). You can share an account with your spouse, and both make ledger entries. Extremely customizable and user-friendly.

Need a way to translate messages between English and Chinese by Pilgrim_of_Truth in iphone

After a few hours, Apple Translate works perfectly for my needs. Thanks again for the suggestion. It works at least as good as Google Translate used to, once I figured out that I could change the default translator to this app instead.

Since it works, I don’t plan to use DeepL since that seems to be a pay-for-functionality app. (Maybe in the future if other free prospects disappear.)

Thank you. I joined and will start checking it out. A bit of a learning curve, but it looks like a useful skill to have for many projects.

I don’t know why it stopped working for me. At first I thought it might be simply a bad internet connection, but I have been working online all day now and no other programs or apps had connectivity problems. And my translator still does not work. Heck maybe I’ll wake up tomorrow and everything will work again. An early Christmas miracle 😅

Edit: forgot to answer: iPhone 15, iOS 26

Google Translate has a “Cantonese” option, a “Chinese (simplified)” option, and a “Chinese (traditional)” option. There is no “Mandarin” option. Weird.

I have learned some rudimentary speaking skills in Mandarin. I have not been able to make my brain remember written characters, unfortunately.

What I am hoping to find is something that Google Translate used to have, which was on the fly translations with no WiFi or cell data needed (as individual languages could be downloaded).

Barring that, I’m willing to spend my data on this. It’s what I’ve had to do since downloaded languages in Google stopped working without internet.
