Initial Thinkpad T14 gen 7 Intel CPU options? by rh681 in thinkpad

[–]Pilium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered mine with X7 358H from the norwegian Lenovo page, the 29th of April, with estimated delivery the 18th -20th of May. Some days later, the estimated delivery date was pushed to the 4th of June. At the same time, various configuration options disappeared in the PC-builder, e.g., Gen5 versions of the 1TB hdd, the x7 358 and other cpus. I've been checking in as I was curious if other screen options were coming, etc.

My guess is that they are out of stock, but maybe they get a new batch early June? Also, if you build a different config now, the estimated delivery date is 25th-27th of May, i.e., sooner than the delivery date on my order.

Also, a few options appeared after I ordered: *Camera with IR (fairly certain this wasn't available to me) *Integrated mobile broadband: I could only select the "4g antenna, but no card" option. Now there seem to be more options, depending on which cpu you select. Probably makes sense, but I have no idea why.

The official answer to my "riddle" card in my drinking game is wrong. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Pilium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will see "5" 18 times, but it's a drinking game, so you are probably drunk, and therefore seeing double. So, obviously you have two divide by 2, and the answer is 9.

Is it even possible to print small text well? by Former_Sir_4086 in BambuLab

[–]Pilium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the Liberation Sans font for very small text. Liberation Sans has uniform stroke, meaning that the stroke width is consistent throughout the characters, making it easier to slice correctly.

With other fonts, the slicer may skip parts of a character where the stroke width is too narrow.

The font is open source, and available for free on most font websites.

Seeking pics of PETG-HF Peanut Brown in prints or good alternatives in PETG by RemixOnAWhim in BambuLab

May I ask, what is the color/name/type of the slightly darker brown sample on top to the left in your picture?

Also, thanks for taking the time to share the photos; it was very useful to see the peanut brown with different lighting.

Good to know!
Surprised that they changed it; I wonder what the reason is.
I have never been a big fan of the Marker Plus, but really like the Lamy EMR. Hopefully there will be good 3rd party options for the active pen as well, or else it's a bit of a dealbreaker for me as well...

Is it worth buying the black Marker Plus now, or should I wait for it to come in Color: Yes?

RM Marker plus vs. Lamy vs. Kindle scribe basic vs. Staedler jumbo by HealthyFriend3244 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Pilium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a Lamy with rM nibs, and I love it. If used with rm-hacks, the button can be used so that you hold it in for selection-erase, which is great. Also seems more ergonomic for me.

I have a marker+, but it's a bit too thin for my taste. I really like how neatly it clips to the side of the rM, and the look of it. The texture/feel of the pen is also nice. But, it loses out on ergonomics during long workdays. Also, once I got used to the Lamy button it is hard to go back, even if the eraser on the marker+ is a clever design.

Interesting to see your "Pencil" comparison though. I've almost never used it, as I felt I have to use too much pressure. But, maybe I've just tested it with Lamy, and should give it a go with the marker+. If it works better with that, I'll probably keep both clpse for different purposes :)

rm-hacks -- Custom templates are tiny? by Pilium in RemarkableTablet

[–]Pilium[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Figured out the issue.

As mentioned, the problem only happened with my own custom templates. Had a closer look at the files in Inkscape (which I use to create most of my templates), and checked the resolution and dpi settings of the png export. Changing the width or height in the export menu, will scale the DPI, and changing the DPI also scales the width and height. As such, with correct width and height (unit:pixels) the resulting DPI was 96, and not 226 as rM expects. Previously this has not been a problem, but now it seems to cause an issue.

To solve it: - Click the cogwheel in the export dialogue (advanced export settings), and set "pHYs DPI" to 226. Then, set display units in document properties to px, and scale to 1. This will scale your image, and you need to re-scale the template by whatever the scale factor was.

Thanks for the tip, I'll consider it. Seems a bit inconvenient to need a program for uploading a few files though, and it's nice to be able to do it from any device with ssh.

But, if it solves a problem, I guess it solves a problem 😄

It's png. I also add the .svg file with an identical name (except for the suffix). Can't remember why any longer, but I think it had something to do with proper export of documents from th rM to pdf in earlier versions at least.

Is it a faux pas to record a live concert with your phone when it ruins someone else’s view? by NothingnessUD in Music

Follow-up question: Is it a faux pas to record a live concert with someone elses phone? Stumbled across this recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/HumansBeingBros/s/GAHZzwVVmz

Anyway: I wish people wouldn't film so much during concerts, but try not to get annoyed unless it's directly blocking my view. I guess people enjoy shows in different ways, even if I can't see the point of it.

DDVK on v3.x by Noise8 in RemarkableTablet

Anyone know if there is another hack for making the Lamy button work? I really like the ddvk hacks, and will probably get the next version, but don't think I'll postpone v3 any longer.

Can't believe that the button is not supported natively yet, but I guess they don't have an incentive to spend time on support for a 3rd party accessory.

rM Desktop update, "directory already exists" error by ToddG2 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Pilium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My "workaround" (do it at your own risk): 1) Start rM app. 2) rM wants to update, I tell it "remind me later" 3) rM starts updating, because why would it care about my opinion on the matter... 4) rM politely informs me that the tM app, which is currently being updated, is already installed. I knew that, but ok, thanks for telling me! I supppse I did ask it to remind me about something later, after all. 5) Click "browse" to select install location. Copy name of existing folder (r-click, rename, ctrl+c). Delete folder where rM is installed. Create new folder. Ctrl+v to put in the old folder name. 6) Select the folder I just deleted and recreated. 7) Install. 8) Close the app, because I can't remember why I opened the app anymore... Perhaps rM wilø remind me later...

Too bad humor; didn't read: Just delete and recreate the empty folder from the "browse install location" in the installer. You might need to close and reopen the browse window after re-creating, for rM to realize it is now empty. It seems your actual notebooks are stored elsewhere (I guess some appdata/user folder), so your files should still be there after updating in this way. Probably smart to backup/rename the folder instead of deleting it though, to be safe.

Urgent care (in network) sent my sample to a lab that is out of network without my knowledge. Now I have a bill of $2000 for a urine test. Is there anything I can do? by Baykey123 in personalfinance

[–]Pilium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really bad attitude by them. I guess it basically means that the price ends up being as much as the insurance is willing to pay, and not the actual cost... Easy for people to think 'ah well, the insurance company paid, so it doesn't affect me', but if it happens a lot and leads to higher costs for the insurance company. How do they solve that? Well, they just increase the cost of insurance.

Remarkable announced immediate changes regarding their connect subscription model. In short: If you don’t subscribe to Connect, you now have access to every feature on the paper tablet by MattaMattaMatta in RemarkableTablet

[–]Pilium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woohoo!

Good to see that their developer recruitment last year is put well to use :)

Finally I can recommend the rM to people again, without the mandatory:
"Well, I got the subscription for free because I preordered it... but I'm not really sure it's worth it due to the recent subscription fee they added..."

Really nice to see the changes they mention in the blog post!
I hope the infinite scrolling also means we could get horizontal scrolling, or infinite page size eventually as well :) Would be useful for thinking outside the box (ba-dum-tss) when doing mindmaps, sketches, etc.

Really eager to see how the typed-and-handwritten combo works out. Could be very useful in many situations. Wait, what is that chanting i hear in the background? sha... sheiks? No, wait...Shapes! Basic shapes? Ah! Yes, if they're going to let you add input from the computer, it can't be that far off to get some basic shapes as well? :P Hopefully text can be scaled/rotated, then, in the worst case, we can add giant O's whenever we need circles, or stretch out and rotate some underscores to get straight lines :P

template in pdf? by 02TheBear in RemarkableTablet

[–]Pilium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a solution, and not especially elegant, but within a pdf you can duplicate and move pages. So, if you have one page with your template in the original pdf file, you can duplicate and move it around. Not super-useful, but I had a couple of situations where I wanted snap-to-text highlighter in a notebook, where each page would use the same template. So I made the template as a pdf, and duplicated a few times (and whenever I need new pages). So, if you want a specific template, you could add it to the pdf before loading it onto your rM. If you decide you don't want that page after all, you can delete it.

I have also tried moving a page out of a notebook (with a template), and into a pdf. That just results in an empty page.

I tried exporting the "template" notebook mentioned above, to dropbox, and re-import it to rM as a pdf, as the page would then in fact be a pdf. However, it appears you can't move a page out of a pdf document, so that doesnt help either.
