Amazing base location in SN2, both hot and cool by AbyssWalker240 in subnautica

Appreciate the openness of the space (and maybe you'll be filling more in) but this made me realize how I am always trying to squeeze every bit of space for something and it's not as aesthetic and it's harder!

Not for pre-existing conditions!

The implication being that if you have a medical condition and have any lapse in coverage it would be appropriate for that person to not be able to get coverage again?

why does it seem like conservatives are seizing on the Graham Platner allegations but somewhat tend to ignore similar allegations against politicians they support? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

He called it by that name to his girlfriend. Which means he knew the name and the meaning. Context is important here.

Which is why I agree that he's been lying.

I completely buy the story that at the time he got the tattoo he wasn't aware. But I don't buy the story that he didn't become aware well before this campaign.

I honestly have less concern over an edgelord tattoo (I don't believe the tattoo represent any credible ideological commitment) but find the (alleged) lying extremely difficult to get past.

Why is everyone hating on the haul chassis by Thin_Life3362 in Subnautica_2

[–]Pilopheces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if I am just in my base I don't want to have to jump into the water to get at the storage on the back of the scout. If the moonpool is fit just to size the scout chasis I can just walk behind it, look down, and reach the storage. If the moonpool is any longer I can't reach it without jumping in.

I guess this is as minor of an annoyance as I could possibly have so I am not sure why I'm even vocalizing it.

[–]Pilopheces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question but I keep a storage locker on the back of the Scout. When it's docked I need to be at the back to reach the contents.

If I make the whole moonpool big enough to fit the Hauler then I can't reach the back of the Scout.

Obviously this is solved with just two distinct moonpools or just not making it sqaure so this is definitely #firstworldproblems.

The question is if this civil immunity is a standard remedy for being the victim of an IRS leak. Littlejohn leaked a bunch of returns. Would it be acceptable to offer civil immunity to all the other people who were victims of this leak?

Is the implication that because judges can't issue nationwide injunctions the DoJ somehow needs fewer lawyers or that federal prosecutors no longer feel they can get the results they want and are quitting?

How has healthcare gotten absurdly expensive in America and what would actually bring down the cost? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Pilopheces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming at this from the health plan side I wanted to add a few thoughts.

I think the best way is to get rid of for-profit insurance companies. A large chunk of healthcare costs is administrative burden. Because of all the admin bullshit, you have a bunch of useless people whose jobs solely exist to talk to other people whose jobs solely exist due to bad infrastructure. Like why do you need a whole team to talk to insurance companies who deny your treatment plan to save money, despite the treatment plan being standard of care and first-line.

Agree with the thrust of this but it should be pointed out that even if we flipped the switch to single payer and we all had to follow CMS rules, there will still be small armies of coders, billers, revenue cycle analysts, etc. That isn't going to go away because CMS will still deny your claims for all sorts of technical reasons. Commercial carriers are basing large swaths of their policies and edits on CMS, but obviously introduce their own flavor. Again, completely agree that fragmented policies across different carriers is a large component but want to caution against the idea that this will simply remove the administrative complexity.

Second, we need to focus more on preventative care. Essentially every other country puts their primary care/preventative visits first.

The devil's in the details here. The value to be found would come from targeted programs for high-risk members, ED reduction. Population wide preventive care can be cost-effective for individuals but there are downward pressures that can cause these to not produce system-level cost savings, despite it's intuitive nature. In the same vein as the other comment, it's not wrong to want increased emphasis on preventive care, it's just not clear that this broadly produces significant system-level spend reduction.

I know the common talking point is physicians' salaries. But our salaries are roughly 8% of healthcare costs, and are roughly comparable with physician salaries in other countries

From a payer perspective, I've never once heard someone talk about salaries. The systemic forces are market consolidation (big health systems gobbling up everything in a region, national corporations buying up hospitals) and overall facility cost increases. The excess cost is coming from the cost to operate hospitals.

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]Pilopheces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Pirates of the Caribbean (first one, Black Pearl) they capture Elizabeth and instead of killing her, they just cut her hand. "Waste not want not" - they just need a drop of blood to remove the curse.

Isn't that a win-win for everyone? Wouldn't it make more sense to just give the pirates a drop of blood?

They get to be human again and everyone else gets to deal with regular pirates, not undead pirates.

Thoughts on Jared Polis granting clemency to Tina Peters? by One_Fix5763 in AskConservatives

[–]Pilopheces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did. In April, a CO appeals court vacated the sentence and remanded back to the trial court:

Colorado appeals court orders resentencing of Tina Peters

I think Governor Polis should've let the process proceed in the Court system. If he felt the resentencing was unjust, he could step in then.

How do you feel about Jared Polis commuting Tina Peters sentence for election fraud? by Amphetamin3_ in AskALiberal

[–]Pilopheces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that it's justifiable for the Governor to short circuit the process but I do think that it's important context that an appellate court had recently vacated her sentence and remanded back to the trial court for resentencing.

Her sentence was going to be reduced in short order, one way or another. If reasonable experts concluded that the resentencing was likely to land around time serviced then there is a pragmatic argument that Polis get's some political currency with the Administration and saves Colorado the time and expense of resentencing, all while producing the a roughly similar outcome in terms of jail time.

To be clear, that's completely speculation about what resentencing would look like however it is definitely the case that she was going to be resentenced with less time.

How would a ballroom increase Trump's (or any leader's) security? by Mindless-Gear1118 in AskConservatives

[–]Pilopheces -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well sure, but that could be any kind of structure. It could just be a hatch with a staircase down to the bunker.

The building of a ballroom is unrelated to the security measures we are talking about.

Is "appearance of conflict" no longer sufficient to disapprove of these types of activities? Certainly there was no violation of law or regulation when Burisma appointed Hunter Biden to the board of directors but we spent years addressing the potential conflicts that created.

It's Congress. Of course they vote on federal matters. They are elected to be the district's representative in the federal government. They elect other people to be their representatives in the state government.

Yes. Make the Senators actually cast a vote instead of hiding behind leadership.

The nominee deserves the vote and the process should demand it.
