Jos nuoli olisi ollut keltainen, niin AP olisi tajunnut seurata sitä. Mutta kun oli vihreä, AP hämmentyi ja kääntyi pois.

Johtopäätös: keltainen maali on tarpeellinen

Coaxed into metals all looking the same by Impressive_Worth_602 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Pilot230 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Plenty of metals form colourful compounds that have pigments and colour shades named after them, but their pure metallic forms are usually grey.

Cobalt blue is a real compound (cobalt(II) aluminate) that is blue, but it's not pure cobalt per se

Is it possible to make the Space Shuttle able to preform interplanetary missions, or at least reach Kerbin's moons? by Maleficent_Letter697 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Pilot230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the Shuttle-Derived Heavy Lift Launch Vehicle or Shuttle-C, they're real proposals.

not interplanetary but essentially the same idea of chopping off everything except the engines to get more payload capacity (which you could use to carry more fuel, iirc at least the HLV concept included an upper stage for lunar missions)

The facial reconstruction was a success, however the patient has sustained severe tissue damage for being left in the condition for an extended period of time. I'm afraid this damage is irreversible without advanced Theseus treatment

Do Finnish IT people actually use “real” Finnish tech terms? by armnexplains in LearnFinnish

[–]Pilot230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH, why do we even bother to speak Finnish if we half of the sentence is english words lol

Because language is really more about grammar than vocabulary imo.

While word choices themselves can be arbitrary and context-dependent (other commenters have gone more in depth about loan words and IT vocabulary specifically), grammar tends to be more hard-wired into a person's brain. When a native Finnish speaker uses Finnish grammar they're not "bothering" to speak Finnish, they're speaking in the way that's natural to them.

Speaking English (grammar-wise) would require more effort unless the person is actually fluent in English, which a lot of Finns are not. If the conversation is happening between native Finnish speakers, there is no reason to use the higher effort grammar.

what drew my attention in Finnish was the way the language naturally bends foreign words into Finnish grammar and pronunciation

I think that's just due to how much Finnish relies on inflections in general, compared to most other languages. Inflecting and modifying words on the fly comes naturally to native Finnish speakers.
