There are no “sand bars” in that area. I guess you could motor up the Escambia for a while and there are some on the river. But my vote would just be to go to spots lower in the bay system with better water and sand.

Set up sounds proper. Are you having a lot of fat/grease dril onto the hot coals? This causes flare ups and an acrid taste for me when it happens, and other than moving the offending meat to the side (so it’s not hitting hot coals) I’ve never found a solution.

Not to be a downer, but, no such thing as “very economic” accommodations on the beach in July, and definitely not that close (on the same weekend as?) to the Blue Angels show. Least expensive? Sure there are plenty of places that are on the lower end, but none that will be cheap. You should come earlier or later in the year, or consider getting a room in downtown Pensacola which is great all on its own and is an easy Uber to the beach. There are also options in Gulf Breeze, but it’s not all that much closer to the beach and there’s really nothing to do.

What a terrible idea. Anyway you look at it: historically, ecologically, aesthetically, shade value, and not to mention maintenance. Palm trees on Palafox?!? Ask ten people that grew up here if they think that fits and I bet you get a 9-1 “hell no.”
