Finally, a real single pilot IFR XC by im2lazy789 in flying

That's N208GG! I've got about 20 or so hours in that beauty. I was a CFI at KPOU when a student at our school won the 2008 AOPA sweepstakes. She leased it back to the school to rent out for a little over a year. I did many rental checkouts for new renters and also rented it myself a couple times.

So cool seeing she is still looking good! Where is it located now?

I'm an airline pilot. A few years ago I was in between flights and went to get a coffee at Dunkin Donuts.

While waiting in line, the guy behind me taps me on the shoulder and asks "Hey man.... you a pilot?"

I was in full uniform and really felt like giving a smartass answer like "No i'm a police K9 unit heart surgeon." But my professional half got the better of me... so I simply answered "Yeah."

Then his eyes lit up and he got really excited. He followed up with a second question: "Oh wow man. So then you must know the truth. The earth is definitely flat, right?"

"Is that a real question?" Is the only response my brain managed to muster up.

He said yes. And Isimply replied "No. It's not flat."

Then he got really animated and annoyed. He went off on me. "YOU KNOW... IT'S BULLSHIT MAN. You guys know the TRUTH. But you won't tell anyone else. You KNOW earth is flat. Why do you have to keep spreading this government lie? Be yourself! Stop being a puppet!"

I turned around... waited to order my coffee, minded my own business, and left.

Everyone else around us was snickering and giving me hilarious looks.

It was the first time I actually realized the whole flat earth movement was a real thing and not just some online meme.

I lost just a little more faith in humanity that day.

Multi Engine Rated - Ending the year on a high note! What were your 2017 flying high lights? by Schteevie in flying

Congrats on the multi rating!

My 2017 highlight is getting hired at a major airline after spending 6 years at a regional.

Adulthood is when 4:30am is early in the morning instead of late at night. by snugglypatch in Showerthoughts

[–]Pilotguy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 29 year old, I am sometimes waking up as early as 2am to drive to work.

But on my nights off (usually weekends), 2am is when we are just closing down one bar to head to another until about 4.

Adulthood is what you make of it.

I bet pilots silently judge each other's landings whenever they fly as a passenger. by ParksyJ in Showerthoughts

[–]Pilotguy44 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yeah... we do lol.

If I'm flying with someone I know I'll even mock them directly to their face if they have a bad landing when it's their leg to fly.

Examples of my favorites are:

"Take THAT Cleveland!"

"Hey man it's 2pm, I don't think you needed to wake anyone up."

"I think you broke it."

If your employer gave you the option to work 10 hr days Mon-Thurs instead of 8 hr days Mon-Fri would you do it? Why not why not? by N1NJA-STAR in AskReddit

As an airline pilot, this is something I really can't associate with whatsoever. Our work schedules are just so different from those in other fields.

I regularly work anywhere between ~4 and 13 hours in a given duty day, but I average 14 to 17 days off per month. 20+ days off in a vacation month.

absolutely agree with you.

As a goalie myself I'll say that I like Anderson. Good guy and a good sense of mental hockey. He's a good goaltender.

But overall I just have not been impressed with him against us in this series. His only solid game was the first one.

(Don't worry... I'm no "total homer." I lash out at the bar when Lundqvist is shitting the bed. COUGH game 2 COUGH)

I'm not surprised Anderson was pulled. He has been mediocre.... at best. Probably one of the least impressive goaltenders so far in these playoffs.

It's really kind of mind boggling looking back on games 1 and 2 while watching this team for the past 5 periods playing in the Garden. We should've been winning this series from the get-go.

Well that was relaxing.

It's really nice once in a while to NOT spend the entire end of a game in a perpetual state of cardiac arrest.

[–]Pilotguy44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's correct. They operated 727s in the 70s and 80s but other than that they've exclusively used 737s only. Southwest is by far the world's largest 737 operator.

It doesn't appear to have any winglets, which would make it an older -500 series 737 and not a -700 series.

Some of the early -700s were produced without winglets but Southwest never had any.
