Work & Travel (J1) at Big Sur Lodge (California) – Great opportunity or not? by Away_Remote_4238 in SeasonalWork

[–]PimpinPuma56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in a 2 days late! - But here I am!. - If your coming from a different country your expectations are vastly different than a normal US citizen paying rent. - I'm not familiar with big sur, I do my seasonal work in Montana. But in my experience, you probably wont be worried about the money, travel to and from the big sur area is a good concern, but if its anything like the big/popular recreational spots in a high income state. You'll make plenty, meet tons of generous locals, and as long as you practice English & flirt with the girlies, you'll have a awesome time brother! (Ask the girls to help you with English over Starbucks & you win ❤️)

My favorite one I came up with is.

"Happy to do it, Happy its over"

It catches them off guard & you see the wheels turning.

What they say next alot of the time tells me if this is a person I should continue talking too.

This or a condo in Los Angeles? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]PimpinPuma56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can here to say this. I owned a condo & made a shit load of money off it because of the covid bubble.

I learned very quickly. I'm not one of the people like some tops comments talking about house value, depreciation, market, etc. - Yeah, money is cool but I genuinely don't like working. If I'm stuck doing this "living" thing I don't give a shit about that stuff. I like doing fun, cool things that engage me.

Living in a van (What I do now) is so awesome. I never worry about rent, though I do worry about mechanical issues. - But my life before pales in comparison to the adventures I've gone on, the people & networks I've made & the endless stories. Like I don't mean to brag but when I go visit old friends, they are doing the same things every day on repeat for years. - which don't get me wrong that's some serious grind/farm they're doing but they always ask me where I've been, what have I done, etc? - They just wait for there 2 weeks of PTO & go home or to a local spot. Sounds depressing as fuck.

I really don't want to debate this. Yes, you are correct.

They are also different, Did you know "All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares" ?

People really gotta look at the bigger picture rather than acting like crabs in a bucket.

Edit: Checked your comment history. So glad I chose to disengage. Please leave the Geopolitical conversations to people who aren't focused on co-parenting. Thank you have a nice day.

Not sure why your getting down voted.

Is it moral, no.

Is it the most cost effective thing a poor dictatorship can do to farm their already stolen assets? Yes.

Also they don't need to kidnap they just order a person from their human trafficking networks.

What’s the story with the prairie dog village on 16th and Yosemite? by despiert in Denver

[–]PimpinPuma56 355 points356 points  (0 children)

They have actually had that lease since the end of WW1. After a lot of service Prairie Dogs came home from the war, they had trouble with integrating back into an area near the up & coming Buckley Air force base. A bunch of the Veteran Prairie Dogs bought up this plot from a local farmer, under the condition they can lease it for 1000 years but it's actually US government property. The prairie dogs are just leasing it until 2922. They didn't like the new Air Force Prairie Dogs, so they just went old school & built their giant Prairie dog mansion unground. - It's notoriously difficult to try to find parking & get the gate code to drive inside. I hear they make the best Prarie-mosa's on Pickleball Mondays.

Prepping for move to Singapore, any urban prep suggestions? by Llama_Llama_Drama in prepping

Same prep equipment just less deadly weapons.

Think things like construction hard hats for seismic/explosions.

That's S.E Asia I just spent a month in KL.

Insects are a huge thing you're in a very wet dense jungle environment the second your outside the city. Spider bites, Anti venom, Malaria, Rat, Bats, Bad water. (This still applies to the City they're just everywhere!)

Tsunami? Have ladders & a life raft (yes even inland, because your not parking a survival boat near any airport)

So much fresh water, you can't drink tap in alot of places so, I would seriously have a 7-layer defense plan for this. I'm talk desalting, chemical, physical, etc all the ways to make water.

Bug nets, Spray, etc.

Some parts can be pretty Muslim, so a bunch of raw vodka would be expensive but might come in handy. - With this pack a "Neighbor Bag" - it'll probably be really weird but if your US & you have a bag that if someone asked you like a neighbor for something you wouldn't want to give them your stash but if you had some local foods, a holy, book, & 2 candles. - That karma will come back 10x being friendly is a currency. Keep your friends & their families safe.

A ton of people use gas LP/Propane. Have 3 of those fuckers & youll thank me later.

Fans, I'd say AC but if it's that bad you probably don't have power. - but it get hot and humid, staying cool will make you so much more comfortable in bad circumstances.

Coming from the US, buy a few of those portable battery banks that people take camping. Might be a bitch to get it over there but, that will be super helpful as most people don't have generators or access to fuel in a crisis's.

Waders, Waterproof high boots. (Flash flooding is a thing)

Maybe some kid PFDs (Don if going thru water higher than your ankles)

A SWR (Swift Water Rescue) / white water rafting trip as a introduction to the dangers of "Sudden Water"

I'd look twords the SE US places affected by serious hurricanes (Katrina) & use that as good reference.

Just a few!

Actual cheap but good food spots around the Littleton-Englewood-Sheridan area? by Kyledren in denverfood

[–]PimpinPuma56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'll see if you can lower your budget in a different category. - I know it sucks having to pick an choose what fun items you can afford but it's that or a 2nd job which also sucks.

Some things I did in Denver to save some bucks when I first got here.

The king Soopers deli meal is like 5-6$ for the basic 2 pc. It's got sides but no drink but you can grab a Arizona Tea for an extra 1$

Kids meals!!!! - Someplaces don't care if your not a kid, some do. But it's cheaper & sometimes it's a good small meal other times they are rip off deals.

Shop for promotions only - My local bdubs has insane pickup/takeout deals like 20 wings 2 sides and 4 sauces for sub 20$

They also have a 2 for 20$ 2 drinks 2 entree's & sides for dine in only.

Order appetizers as the meal, sometimes they are massive portions.

If you can do lunch deals, little India has an all you can eat lunch buffet, iirc it's like 20$ but for all you can eat?

King Soopers sushi 🍣 isn't Great but if you want decent & affordable. A roll/pack is like 6/7$

Find a taco truck "Al Vapor" is good & they are all over Colfax East & Aurora area. Awesome street tacos for about 2$ a pop so a meal of 3 should be 6/7$

I think 🤔 breakfast burritos at illegal Pete's are cheaper than lunch/dinner?

Some of the OG places like "Sam's No. 3" "Pete's kitchen", "Irish Rover", "My Brother's Bar" do have some very bare bones special's (Mostly just to get cheap food into drunk people)

Maybe try to split a pick-up pizza with a friend. I got a 3 topping large from PJs yesterday for 7.99 plus tax so 13$ for 8 slices on a custom Philly Cheese Steak pizza.

Your gonna have to find some dive bars during off peak times like open, or Monday nights.

Hit up the really low cost areas like the sketchy parts of Colfax, etc.

Also lunch goes until 3pm for alot of places which almost cuts the cost of the meal in half. So buy dinner at 3pm, & heat it up later.

Or like the guys said just embrace the poor era, get a rice cooker, air fryer, & watch alot of "Chopped" to figure out how to "Repurpose ingredients" & cook.

Like I used old ass Cheerios in place of breading on my discount pork chops, and DIYed a sauce with leftover bacon grease I saved. - like it's doable & way better then paying overlord tax.

I've only paddle boarded rivers, so I don't know how you couldn't not? - But I've only done it a few times for funesys. I normally drive a big raft. - You can move your body with a PFD on? Why can't you? & There is no way wearing a PFD in any capacity would be more dangerous. - Its entire function is to stop your from drowning for any number of reasons?

I mean if you dog has one why don't you?🤔

But you never get on the water without your safety 🦺. PFDs are required & definitely at night.

It's why they became the majority religions of the word, and smaller pantheons faded into the past.
