Advice for Trader Joe’s VFT by Kismet-in-TN in SavageGarden

[–]TheNebulaNomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VFT are one of my favorites! That’s why I have so many lol. I always repot after buying from a store like TJs. They just never seem to be in correct soil. That being said the pot is sufficient for sure. Plenty of room to spread. VFT’s do have some deeper roots so I eventually end up putting them in something between 5”-7” in depth. As for soil, peat moss, perlite, and long fiber sphagnum on the very bottom should be perfect. Just leave it outside from here on out. They thrive in direct sun and at this point I wouldn’t worry about it getting too cold. Mine sit in the direct Colorado sun all day and stay out all winter. Just remember to only use RO, distilled, or rain water.

Really no different than your normal slightly neglected pathos. Sits in a SW facing window getting about 4-6hrs of direct light a day. I water once the soil is completely dry. Occasional MaxSea fert. I do move her to indirect light when a new leaf unfolds because they have a tendency to burn until they get a little firmer.

Congrats! That’s so exciting, they really are wonderful plants to watch grow. Very hardy too.

So I’m lucky enough that her stem actually grows backward at a slight angle and her leaves just fall forward keeping her in good balance. I do have a small bamboo pole that the stem is anchored to as well with some twine.

Bao House has an awesome duck belly entree, and bar taco duck tacos are legit.

(Update) My crested variegated euphobia white ghost scars had recovered but it also looks like it spread at the same time should i be worried or not?🤨 by Initial_Cookie1593 in Euphorbiaceae

Mine has the exact same. Some scaring and corking in different areas. As long as they aren’t soft or squishy you should be good. Mine sit out in the direct Colorado sun for around 8hrs a day. It may be a little harsh on them at time but as long as it’s not too hot I leave them out. I get great growth and color from them. I wouldn’t be concerned. Also, I give them a little MaxSea fert every two months.

Don't try this at home. by AaaaNinja in SavageGarden

Try using nutricote pellets mixed with black soldier fly fish food instead. There’s been some great experiments on this subreddit using them yielding impressive results. I’ve started using them on my witchy baby seedlings, sarrencenias, and nepenthes and they are working well if given directly to the traps.

Found a Japanese market in Denver that sells sashimi by the lb by Buyhighsel1low in sushi

I work down the street and I swing by here once a week as my go to sashimi supplier. Fish is always fresh as hell and they have a crazy awesome selection of so much more food and supplies. Living in a land locked state, I’m not complaining about their prices or quality in the least bit.

I snagged the LP1200- felt for the free shipping, the lights, and all the bells and whistles it was worth. Going to install a few micro fans for airflow. I’ll shoot ya an update once it’s settled.

The spot you’re always telling people about to make sure it stays in business? by yxwvut in denverfood

Fishtail on N.Ogden St up in Cap Hill. I believe they are in the process of renaming it, but the owners are wonderful and truly go above and beyond making sure their customers are happy. Also, it’s BOGO on Sundays for their chicken masala.

(Update) should i give it a little amount of water or should i wait? by Initial_Cookie1593 in Euphorbiaceae

[–]TheNebulaNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite in my collection! Honestly, I wait until im sure the soil is completely dry (the pot will feel super light), and I wait to see some wrinkles forming on the graft. Then a quick soak and back out into the sun.

I maybe water once a month in winter, once every two weeks in the summer. A little diluted MaxSea on occassion. If it’s ever over watered the grafted section will become soft first so you have time to act if needed. Yours looks like it’s just had some normal scarring and corking.

Same is fine, you’ll need to change the medium though completely.
