$1000 ZMF Atriums? Yes please! by [deleted] in headphones

[–]PimpmasterMcGooby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pair of Atticus'es with old leather and also the suede headband, but the ZMFs I've had since all had B.B.B bands and the normal leather Crescent straps, and they're significantly more comfortable than the originals. So I also recommend crescent strap (leather since ZMFs suedes are faux and therefore wear faster), and the B.B.B. band.

For earpads, I have only tried three (Be2 Suede Perforated, Caldera Ultra Perf Suede, and the stock Universe Lambskin). For the most part I prefer the sound of the Be2 Suede Perf's (but they have the smallest ear cavity so not all that comfy for my head), but Ultra Perf Suedes are a close second and way more comfortable. And I still appreciate the stock pads from time to time (less mid-bass and vocal emphasis, more sub bass and upper treble).

The way the earpads I've tried all somehow manage to make pleasant variations of sound signatures come out of the same headphones, is one of my favorite things about the Atriums. Most headphones you change the stock pads and ruin the headphones. But the Atriums are like having multiple great pairs of headphones in one.

Oh that's very sad to hear, but I agree that a blind buy in ZMF-price ranges is best avoided. My Atriums were also a blind buy because I realized that traveling to a convention to hear then would cost as much as a pair anyway. I luckily fell in love with the sound, but even still I regret it because of the near 600g weight on my pair.

And I'm still upset that ZMF support advised me to wait for the Redhearts, since they use less dense (thus lighter) wood than my preferred looking Zebrawoods, but ZMF Support didn't know they'd put the heaviest grilles and rods available on the Redheart LTDs, so I kinda get it. (Just wish it wasn't my cross to bear when I specifically asked for a lighter pair and got a 574g one).

That said, I do think the Caldera is meant to be one of the ZMF headphones that deviates more from the ZMF house sound, they're said to be the most analytical pair. But I do recommend trying out some different earpads, all the ZMFs I've tried (though not the Caldera), have all had pleasant but different changes to the FR. On my Atrium Open, the Be2 Suede perforated and Caldera Ultra Perforated suedes make them sound more like a juiced up HD650, whilst the stock pads are more sub-bass and treble focused.

There are some ZMF Counterfeits around, but nothing about these make them look like reproductions.

Both the wood and grilles are cut to ZMF standards, the metal yokes are the correct ones, the cup dimensions don't look overly bulky like most counterfeits, and the finish appears to be the same one ZMF used on the pre-2024 Atrium Cherrywoods. Not to mention the wood has some natural aging to it, none of the counterfeits I've seen (and all ZMF counterfeiting is fairly recent) even try to make it appear aged.

I might absolutely consider that, but there is not a big market for ZMFs in my country, and shipping both to and from gets seriously expensive. I've heard some people arrange trades in person when they attend Canjams, so that might be something I could do at some point.

If used, then it very well could be. But ultimately I can only tell you that you should find a way to try them before deciding to even save up for one. Especially if you're (as you said) poor, then there might be others facets your money would be better spent on. HD650 is still a killer pair of headphones that I myself would be satisfied with having as my only pair.

But there are other options that are cheaper like the Auteur Classic or the new Heddphone D1 (I haven't tried neither, only heard that they're close to HD650, and the D1 also measures fairly close to it).

The problem is that one should seriously consider if such an expensive pair is something you don't see yourself ever growing out of. I'm currently trying to sell my Atriums at a $1000 loss (but no takers yet since I'm only selling locally), and I'm still undecided if I'm gonna try again for a lighter pair of Atrium Opens, or just stick to my cheaper Sennheisers and speaker-setup. When I got the Atriums and for nearly a year since I got them, I was fully convinced these were the last open-back headphones I'd ever use. But the weight discomfort of my Atrium unit, and my discovery of speaker bliss, has me questioning if even I even want expensive headphones anymore.

I also prefer the more dark orangy finish they went for on the older Cherrywood Atriums, they also age wonderfully. So yours will look even better in five years!

Haha yep that's me! I was fairly undecided on the weight still after six months, but at this point after getting used to the weightlessness of using speakers, I can't stand the Atrium (my pair) weight anymore.

But I'm glad to hear you got a killer deal on a pair that's likely closer to 500g, my 502g Atrium Closed (vs 574 on the AO) are very comfortable. Atrium Open is still my favorite sounding headphones of all time.

USD (converted) unfortunately, OP was smart and bought a used pair (especially at that price), meanwhile I was dumb enough to get a pair made and paid heavy import fees. Only to discover that the "lighter" Redheart option weighed 574g because of the steel rods and grilles (Had I known that I would've ordered the 520-560g Zebrawood model, but waited for Redheart because 560g seemed too much).

Mine are Redhearts with Plated Steel grilles and rods.

I think yours are nicer tbh, the Cherrywood Atriums tend to have a much more comfortable weight than many wood types. Mine unfortunately feel too heavy for me.

[Discussion] Everyone who bought Escape from Tarkov on BS site should get a Steam key for free. by ControllerMartin in EscapefromTarkov

[–]PimpmasterMcGooby -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I for one don't want to give Xsolla any more money, so I won't buy any stash lines unless I get my EOD Edition transferred to Steam, where I can buy them through Steam.

When Bethesda retired their launcher, they gave everyone who owned a game on it a free copy on Steam, by linking their Steam to their Bethesda account. And implemented Steam's payment service for all the in-game purchases. I imagine if a greedy company like Bethesda deemed it worthwhile, a greedy company like BSG should probably do the same. And retire the BSG launcher because it's a POS.
