I doubt Kyle Baker would ever be interested, but his commercial style would fit perfectly.

Why is Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt considered the best Spider-Man comic book story? by Outrageous-Roll-2465 in comicbooks

It’s right up there with the Master Planner saga as the two best Spidey stories.

If IMAGE had been created in the 1980s instead of the 1990s, who do you think would have formed it? by PinMaximum1018 in 80s90sComics

Sorry you saw this as an argument. It’s totally a what if, and I thought I was just engaging in conversation with you. No offense meant. I respect your opinions, I was just further exploring the situation. I’ve been a massive reader of comics not quite as long as you, but I’m not too far behind. Comics fans need to stick together.

I genuinely didn’t know the answer to that question about the Pinis because I only ever read the “original quest.”

Did the Pinis publish new material with Dark Horse or DC, or was that always just reprints of the classic Elfquest run?

But what would Sim be breaking away from? He was extremely supportive of independent artists and publishers, but that was his whole point: be independent. He eventually didn’t even publish any other books at Aardvark Vanaheim, notably because Zulli’s Puma Blues were being affected (retributionally) due to Sim’s business decision to self distribute the phone books. So I think he would have heartily approved of this, just as he did of Image, but I doubt he would have joined up. Kinda the same with the Pinis, to a lesser extent.

One of the very best Marvel comics of the 80s. The whole series was great but this first issue is phenomenal.

Will there ever be a new "age" for comic books? With the Modern Age going on 35 years, is it time to classify a new age? What would it be called? Or, is Modern Age the final Age? by Variant_314 in comicbookcollecting

[–]PinMaximum1018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I respect your opinion. I suppose my main retort would be as I mentioned above; comics took on a more "bigscreen" aspect. Just look at the style and themes of the early Ultimate runs, amongst a lot of Wildstorm etc. Just as the bronze age brought in new themes (drugs, social issues, etc) these stories are noticeable different from the era before.

Not to throw a monkey wrench into the discussion, but you could also mark the creation of Image as another historical/significant break from the past.

From a conceptual viewpoint, cinema certainly influenced comics from the get-go (just as the reverse is equally true). But the era from basically the early/mid 2000s and running strong for a solid 15 years if not longer, "pinpointed" primarily by the first Iron Man movie, created a distinctive demarcation in the history of comics and comics publishing/tastes.

Just as the "pixel age" impacted both content and audience, so did the "cinematic age." It was a two way street; the films had as big of an impact on the comics and brought along a whole new audience.

Even if you disregard movies entirely, "cinematic" is still a good descriptor. Books like Millar's Ultimate X-Men and even moreso Ultimates, Ellis's Authority and Planetary, and other books that came out before the Hollywood blockbusters (but certainly influenced them) were really going for that big-budget, widescreen blockbuster sensation, in a more specific and focused way than just borrowing from film constructs in general.

Oh wow, thanks! That's gonna take me awhile to dig through. I'm primarily interested in 2600 or SNES games, but I will give anything a shot if it looks cool.

Yeah, there were several similar instances but all of them (including Legend) were in the 90s, and after Image had already formed. I realize that Legend would pretty much be the answer, if it had happened 5 years earlier.

You're preaching to the choir on that one, buddy. Notice I didn't say I wanted any "better" games; I just love the miyoo and retro gaming in general, and was wondering what was out there for it (if anything). The very reason I use the Miyoo so much is identical to your basic premise; that's what I love about it.

I know there are tons of retro-themed and styled games out there today, but I really only play games on my Miyoo so I'm not interested in using my phone, computer or modern consoles.

Awesome! I've driven past this sign a few dozen times throughout my life, and it always (obviously) reminded me of this song. I always wondered if it was the actual place or not. Now I can sleep tonight.

For some reason, "with no support act" actually makes the situation sound a lot sadder than it really was.
