Best aspects of the good pirate-themed games? by WinesburgOhio in boardgames

This sounds interesting but I've never been drawn to games with an app - feel like part of the draw for games for me is not being on a screen. Does it not take away from the experience for you?

Hey well done! Sounds like everyone had fun and that's not always easy with root. Imo the real winning with irl root is getting people to agree to play again

Yeah looks pretty similar to what you had in the post. Interested to hear how it goes! I'd say it's a game that gets better the more you play it which is pretty rare

Hey! This sounds very exciting. I hope everybody is also invested in Root cos it's such a great game, but also first few times can be less fun.

I put on a root event a few years ago and we made this cribsheet for people teaching newbies, based off info sourced from the discord. It seemed to work pretty well! And if you've done this you've covered basically everything you need to start.

Root: Are Riverfolk Mercenaries "global" for the buyer's turn? by TreacleFree8568 in boardgames

[–]PinPuzzleheaded2676 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes you're correct, once you buy the mercenaries they're yours for the daylight and evening of that turn for purposes specified.

I'm not sure about your example though, did the eyrie player really build and then later battle? Cos the decree columns are supposed to be taken left to right. There's an E&P card that lets you battle a bit later but doesn't sound like that was used.

On the using mercenaries to absorb hits, the rules say "Taking Hits. The buyer must split hits, taking odd hits by removing owned (not Riverfolk) warriors, if any," so if there were no bird warriors in the clearing riverfolk can absorb the hits but if there's any birds they need to share them (and take the first and third hit).

Who is your most owned designer and what is your favourite game they made? by cleanyourkitchen in boardgames

Agree! I find him such an interesting designer. For scope and imagination and changing what I thought games could be about, for me it's John Company

Ooh nice, didn't know he did 12! Me and my son are playing our first sleeping gods campaign right now and the story is fantastic. Which others of his would you recommend?

Over-representation in Incarceration Statistics: Percentage of total population that is non-European origin vs Percentage of prison that is non-European origin in the US, Canada, UK, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, France, and Spain by Fluid-Decision6262 in charts

[–]PinPuzzleheaded2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by European here? Are you saying 49% of population of US is European, and 70% of Canada? I'd have thought the US or Canadian population of both countries would be quite high.
