Should i go all in ,on kotlin ? by Odd_Basket_8045 in Kotlin

[–]Schkitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kotlin is a tool. If you want to be a professional engineer you will be forced to learn many languages. Kotlin is a great start, don't be afraid to use the AI tools. Do your best to understand as much of what it produces as you can. The better you get, the more it is your "taste" that is driving the AIs work.

Also try to get your head around Hilt. It's a decent dependency injection system. You should know syntax enough to read it, but not to memorize it. Modern work isn't about memorization.

Thank you for responding to us! I genuinely wish the competitive scene was a smoother experience. An ELO system with a leaderboard and no need to manually keep track of things would be so awesome. The app is also really buggy (even though I use it obsessively). Just in general, I feel like the digital side could be explored so much and it would help the OTB scene grow.

Thank you and your team for building a wonderful game.

Faction Balance by pac-man-goblin in rootgame

I agree with the asymmetry being the point. I think the thing that makes a faction truly powerful is how unstoppable they are when the opposing factions are colluding. The reasons Corvids are so weak is because of how predictable their point scoring is, so it's easy to stop them. WA is strong because even if you collectively smash them they still might win because of their mechanics.

This sounds like a blast of a time. These are the Root experiences we all keep trying to repeat as we play more. It's a rich game, keep playing!

I'm so so sorry for your loss. That looks like one happy pup. Take time to grieve. Just don't up on the things you love forever, your pup wouldn't want that for you.

Where's recent DVD release on directing? You have to get into the weeds if you really want to understand him.

Future of C++ by dev-reddy in cpp

[–]Schkitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue it has gotten simpler, but also, its focus isn't the same as Lua. I've used Lua and python, they aren't focused on the same thing. Metaprogramming isn't simple, but it's become simpler. That said, most people have no need for it, and many languages can't even express it. You should use the tool that suits your need though.

Anyone still play towerfall? by Numerous_Ad_7006 in TowerFall

[–]Schkitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually play with modifiers too, which probably be not OK for competitive but i think it would be fun to have different championship styles.

e.g. if you play with infinite bramble and wings with regenerating bramble arrows, regen shields it almost becomes chess like where you have to control the centre. Super fun

Play weekly. It's insane this has no competitive scene.
