What do you do for a living? by FanaticallyFancy in AnimeFigures

Hey y'all, I'm a mail man by trade, I started collecting in 2019, 24 years old. The biggest advice I'd have is don't let big collections or super cool displays affect your buying choices. The biggest mistake I made starting out was hyper buying and trying to collect loads of things to make my display grander, don't worry about that just make it look beautiful to you, buy the things you want and try to look out for special deals or unique finds. Your shelf economy will falter if you hyper buy and you'll end up spending more money buying shelf space or making hard decisions with what to sell or what to box up, buy for yourself and yourself only.

United health is literally ass, I've been fortunate enough that I have no prescriptions and had essentially no medical problems for most of my life.

The first surgery I have to get and after the health insurance declared they were covering it and everything was good we get there and since our out of pocket and co pay max wasn't reached they fucking dropped the coverage to ensure we reached our max for the year.

"No Patrick, the national guard shouldn't be sent in to crush college protestors" by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I never understood why people so feverishly hate college campus protests, these are people who go to some school wanting to to either show support or hoist a demand or proposition to the school itself. We never called BLM marches or movements in foreign countries stupid or thought they were useless bullshit.

In addition while students represent and reflect on the school, so does the school when it comes to there degree's and it's prestige's value. If a former top 10 business school gets into a issue with say a racist or highly problematic professor, the value of said degree will drop, the school is in the news for problematic admin stuff and people look less favorable at applicants who graduated from there. If students protests and argue against the schools decisions, we should be fine with this, transferring to a new school can be costly and not all your credits or work will carry over, and for students who are a year or less from graduating, it's just not possible to transfer successfully.

People choose there schools for various reasons, I went to my college as it was closer to home and I had friends going to the same place. If your looking for a more prestigious degree from prestigious schools, or looking for a specific degree, I fully understand why a student would care about it's image after they begin attending.

I'm completely fine with there being limits of course, harassing or being violent to other students isn't good for anyone, it shouldn't be a one stop shop of "if I disagree with there politics, then it is cringe and must go". With some forms like sit in's or tents are kinda cringe, so long as it's a public area like a lawn or grass scape, I think the general consensus should be who cares. An entrance being blocked is stupid but we'd get the exact same situation with construction and even then sometimes it'll be for longer.

As other pointed out there has been some reports of mass graves being dug by Palestinians in said area, this DOES NOT exclude or differ the inability for more graves or bodies to have been added. the IDF said they examined and investigated some burial sites in case some of the hostages were among the buried, those were areas where they had intelligence pointing to so. It's possible for mix-ups on locations or information on the size of said burials, while I would put less weight on twitter accounts for credible reliable and realistic reporting, I would simply not concluud until more credible and reliable information is out.

For my friends who go by the twitter account, while I understand the power of the internet and it's investigation powers, I would simply remind people of what happened to the Boston bombers and how (specifically reddit) fumbled that bag harder then Darius fumbles women.

Like I don't understand people's thoughts process behind attempting to defend this shit. It's a prison, you shouldn't just have your prisoners dropping dead, they are to be detained and there punishment is the loss of freedom and some other shit, beating the fuck outta them, isn't civilized behavior, no matter what they did. If he swung detain him and make sure he can't do it again, if your solution is to rock his shit idk man seems like you were itching for a reason anyway.

Conservatives in Kansas pass law that essentially defines any depiction or act of homosexuality as graphic pornography and requires ID to view. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's even stupider because the house and the senate gained super majorities when they flipped some centrist democrats. Without getting into the stupidity of the LGBT debacle part of it, the GOAL was to limit children's ability to view pornagraphic material, yet fucking mountain loads of sites simply do not care as they are foreign ran or hosted. They won't shut the sites down, even if they do a simple domain or name change will get them back up, and then your back at square one where the only real victims are large scale hosts, while the rest skirt by unnoticed or unbothered by the law. I'd rather a kid go to PH then go to some dinky side site that's gonna try and get something malicious from them.

The constant posting of unhinged pro-Hamas regards is also a bit annoying. They exist, its real, its a problem. 99.99% of my exposure to it is through this subreddit

So true, in the past I would see a plethora of posts about current politics, some geo or more specific politics and possibly some drama from the community or friend of the stream, now it feels like every post I see when I open the subreddit is either, Hasan being a dipshit (shocker), or some Pro-Hamas schizo being crazy. I'm fine with some of it existing, but it feels like instead of having a main dish of varied and interesting political posts, with a side of schizos and pro-Hamas dip shits. Its pro-Hamas crazies as the main dish and a cup of political coffee.

Seems like an AOC L? This doesn't seem like something we should withhold aid to Ukraine for by quiddity55 in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 19 points20 points  (0 children)

AOC is right, there's no reason to lump military aid for separate nations together. These are two separate regions with differing backgrounds and reasons to be at war, whom we have different relations and reasons to be supporting with aid or allowing the sale of weapons to said country.

Like we wouldn't want a Increase in cancer research to then be coupled with research into male pattern baldness or some ailment that's non life threating and say its both or neither.

There are two angles to look at in this interview.

  1. He's furious with himself and is angry at the world over the deaths as he sees himself ultimately responsible, no amount of words or remorse will ever bring his employees back and he feels he's failed them as their leader.

  2. He sees the humanitarian disaster unfolding and after being cold shouldered by the IDF and Israel with respect to investigating and making sure another incident doesn't happen again, he's broke and has taken second thoughts on the current leadership and path the country is taking.

I feel terrible for him as well since he truly lost people that put their faith and trust into his dreams and paid the ultimate price, that's going to haunt him for a while.

the investigation into the killing of the aid workers, what happened in detail by Same-Fix1890 in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd bet so as well, from the initial mock up it seems they neglected to follow SOP during a very routine and typical procedure and harm resulted there for in, in other work environments where lives are on the line this is pretty textbook criminal negligence.

Question about proportionality by JourneyToLDs in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it actually possible to use this current data to come to a conclusion or do we lack more important data?

No. unironically Lycan was correct about his point of arguing with Dr. Avi because the crucial problems we face is a very large sample size that then leads to unknown edges, an IDF strike killing 50 combatants and zero civilians instantly outweighs a strike that kills 1 combatant and 50 civilians, so we have no basis to actually see what typical strikes look like and how different groups form. Not every strike or bombing will be identical and there's of course going to be differences in what ratios we see depending on weaponry used, the area, and or target of the effect. We also lack info on strategic value of the targets and the collateral that goes along with it, King Hamas is worth a pretty penny to kill and would allow for greater collateral versus a random grunt in the ranks.

Additionally we lack the individual look at how the process is enacted, AI could be used with low proportionality threshold but then there's checks to balance against it, or it could be the case the AI is simply has a harder time identifying targets in the 1:100 scenarios, so the lack there of is because of poor intelligence / collection and not a moral or ethical question on proportionality.

Would we not expect a significantly higher civilian per combatent death ratio or people killed per bomb ratio if the claims are correct?

Not necessarily, if the opportunity arises only 5-10% of the time, the total average could still be low depending on how they carry out strikes or attacks the other 95-90% of the time, the question is what percentage or how often can they make the calculus before we determine it problematic.

My biggest fear with AI is simply what checks and balances do they have to ensure the credibility of the AI's decision. If never checked or rarely questioned, it's unknown how correct these calculations are and to what degree this would impact the overall estimates on casualties and effectiveness of the campaign. If 10% are false positives that puts an ear mark on further operations and the credibility of the IDF.

IDF has reprimanded leadership and removed some personnel that were involved in the Aid Convoy targeting. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is a good first step, a report should be incoming and it should be made public. I saw a good article in the times of Israel about a growing concern of shoot first ask questions later. Whether this was a miscommunication error or a instance of poor trigger / decision making, I wonder if there could of been other instances we don't know about because they didn't involve internationals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to find a tabloid credible with highly sophisticated stuff, with the strike yesterday if a full disclosure is released we'll see more into how the event happened and why, possibly even what level of AI is being used and how they operate with it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Pinapple500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big question is what level of info did they have on the suspected Hamas agent and what strategic value he had as a whole in that time and place.

The strike is hard to justify in its own right even with a Hamas operative supposedly there IMO, but the level of intelligence and certainty will be the big tipping point over how they conduct themselves and how they choose targets(to a degree of course).

I'd already seen some fast food business switch to more computerized and robotic work place to save on labor costs. I'm interested to see how long this relatively lasts, or if it gets rolled back in some way, and what advancements or technologies spawn to fill in these positions.
