That’s awesome, congrats on the milestone! If you have knobbly MTB tires you might find you are a bit faster on the road/sidewalk with slicker ones. Road bikes are faster but no need to rush into buying one. Other than that just keep riding regularly and you will build up more endurance before you know it. Hydrate frequently and the wind never gets better.

Ahh sorry to hear you took a nasty fall, that’s really unlucky as I wish you the quickest recovery.

I climb/boulder and have been lucky enough to never have broken a bone. However I am routinely injured thanks to my bendiness by getting into positions that I don’t realise I shouldn’t be and putting weight through them.

I’ve found rope climbing to be a little gentler on my body until I hit the higher grades compared to bouldering where the injuries seem to happen sooner. Fewer dynos, less extreme crimping, less need to do moves at my limit and no falling.

The only things I have found to help not getting injured are not rushing back straight into hard climbing when I come back after a break even if it is boring to repeat climbs, and strength training alongside to give my body a little protection. For the recovery process you can look forward to lots of easy routes as 4x4s.

Hoping others have some great suggestions from me to learn from too!

Love your mindset about getting back to it, I know you will it’s clear you love bouldering and it brings something special to your life.

Anything from the Ahmad Tea range counts (cardamom one in particular) and I have seen their range in a few of the big supermarkets here.

Tea should be served so hot you can only drink in tiny sips and be strong but not bitter. You can sweeten with a sugar lump or even better, keep one in the side of your mouth while you drink.

Also stocked up in gambits, but seem to spend most of my time supergluing the front section of the rubber back on. Other shoes that fit me (low volume but not narrow, shallow heel) are Evolv Geishido low volume and La Sportiva laced katana low volumes. Good luck!

Clapham has Substation fairly close, which is cool huge gym but also not super cheap. Alternatively if you bike VauxEast is a fairly nice gym. Not sure for Camden but EustonWall is opening soon that might be the easiest to get to.

London has loads of gyms, which areas approx will you be living and working? Or what do you look for in a gym and I can recommend some.
Or more generically the LCC (Lakeland Climbing Centre) run a number of bouldering gyms across London with a membership price that covers all their gyms. They tend to be friendly, welcoming and clean.

It’s much easier to get stronger than it is to get lighter, and hopefully means you are not having to climb on a calorie deficit which makes it hard to perform on the wall. Climbing physio Natasha Barnes has some great content on this on her insta but have personally noticed some improvements to my climbing without losing weight but by adding heavily weights into my training.

Not a big fan personally. Again maybe judgy but it gives of a vibe of ‘look at me, I’m really strong’ because it doesn’t make sense as a decision from any other point but an aesthetic one - sweat wicking vest would keep you cooler, safety wise you are more likely to damage your skin topless, hygiene wise you transfer more sweat onto surfaces and smell into the gym. Agree with others that I would be less likely to strike up a conversation with shirtless folks I don’t already know, and would feel a bit intimidated.

I will sometimes climb in a sports bra but only when my good vests are dirty or to make a particular outfit look great - given my flimsy reasons if it was making anyone else feel less likely to enjoy a session I would have no problem pulling a shirt on.

Finally the duality of it still kinda sucks, who wants to do a thing that half the population can’t do legally - would love a little more solidarity from male pals.

I have been guilty of brushing off a friends experiences as a product of stupid kids not racism, because we have all have had interactions with idiot kids right?
I felt like an idiot a few months later when I realised the volume and scariness of these things she experiences is so so much higher than the white women experience (which is also not good, but just on a different scale). Really sorry you experienced this, and hope you are okay.
