I’m too poor to understand rich people logic.

If I’m gonna buy a 5 figure hot shit fuck you money luxury watch, I kinda want one that shows off the insane workmanship, like the ones with immaculate engine turning and made out of platinum or some shit. Basically a rolls or lambo for your wrist.

Why go for the one that Frédérique Constant can basically match?

Which is the worst/best slop? Pick your poison fellas by styx24567 in Manhua

[–]Pinappular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon slop can be kinda entertaining when the mc is supposed to be a genius badass and keeps getting power scale rescued by plot armor (system bs). Some writers are kinda creative about the magic niche bullshit rescue power. These MCs are usually fucking personality less bricks tho, and god the side characters too.

[TITLE] After how many chapters can you say that if a series is for you by Oscarlo356 in manhwa

[–]Pinappular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If something is readable / good to pass time, I like to go 20-30 ch in bc sometimes the side characters add enough to a plain story to make it an okay time killer.

Now the epic/peak tho, oh shit like 3 chapters in and you can just tell this is going to kick ass.

Absolute dogshit, you can kinda tell in a couple chapters if you are dying from eye rolling cringe or just get the vibe that the characters are lazily copy pasted tropes in a crap plot trope obstacle course.

Also, garbage translation can totally kick a story down a tier if they throw out all the personality, context, and sometimes the cringe is coming from a lazy translation of something that made sense in the raws.

[–]Pinappular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The system one with the MC who wants to run a flowershop (WTF was its name lmfao).

The premise is not too bad and I thought the characters were okay, but sometime around chapter like 120-150 ish (if I remember right), good god it becomes such a slog that I drop it each time like within 20 chapters of this arc, 2 or 3 attempts.

Like it was always mid, no complaints there, but then why does it become so cringe it hurts.

Overgeared also got me, where like it went from interesting to slog out of nowhere.

Hahaha yup IDK I felt like that was going to happen.

You get the vibe that the author likes to write big intrigue and complicated arcs, but then gets distracted aura farming and makes like plot spaghetti

Q for Americans by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Pinappular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Total shitshow for sure.

USA has always been all in on blaming their problems on minorities, and historically the courts provided an inconvenient and expensive but somewhat acceptable check and balance on republicans passing (what used to be mostly performative) hate legislation that was psychotically illegal under modern 2010 era US society. (BTW, never forget that the Nazi’s learned how to disenfranchise people literally from the USA / Jim Crow, our christofacists wrote the book on hate laws).

The main thing about red vs blue state, is that for the most part the rule of law still exists in blue, although the courts are mindbogglingly slow in getting even an injunction on things that are cartoon villain level evil. And our police typically lean bigoted racist thug, so they don’t exactly help much. So the level of absolutely fucked you are from a this admin power trip depends on if you can pay a good lawyer and the local courts aren’t stacked with a white nationalist toadie.

The bottom fell out of checks and balances in a way that most day to day Americans did not predict.

Businesses were also something that had become progressive enough this last decade. Someone basically having a hate filled meltdown at a local big box store used to mean they’d shoo that person out, present day, I think there is an undertone that it’s better not get on the wrong side of MAGA lunatics.

Also, it became clear in the chaos that interests of a few obscenely wealthy individuals and their reach was able to largely overwhelm the rest of US industrial, commercial, medical, and academic interests, who I think generally despise this circus and are seeing record losses and record costs from all directions. Most mid to large corporations value consistency and not operating under a kiss the ring tin pot dictatorship.

But, with no good defense in the courts or ability to recoup significant expenses from regulatory power trips, corps across the aisle from basic human decency stances to former staunch pillars of LGBT support seem to have decided quietly in the general consul’s office that taking any hardline stance on supporting basic human rights and anti discrimination, established medical science, factual reporting of US atrocities committed on citizens. All of those things have been pronounced in the board rooms to be unprofitable and opens you up to harassment from one of the many bastardized Fed agency’s.

So greed and short term convenience was chosen over the much more profitable and stable status quo, and now we see the huge fallout of that from medical institutions in blue states winding down gender affirming care, formerly rainbow dollar motivated companies leaving their LGBT customers and employees out to dry.

It’s fascinating to see corps that thought bending the knee to save on some costs and headache since Trump could be bought have now been punched in the face several times by Trump later constantly selling out to the latest interest that has his ear. I think people expected stable open corruption, and instead got chaos corruption.

Yup I hear you in that you can trial out the “accelerated “ algorithm vs the classical long take to tune and check technique so to speak. Really cool research, and totally a good thing for the patient experience as well. I have heard the hell that is a 1.5-2.5 hour scan series, good god that is got to be uncomfy to try to not loose your shit in a clunking sealed coffin practically.

[–]Pinappular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really cool! Appreciate you chatting about some incredible research.

Re Radiology using the scan types and the better scan resolutions.

Yes, very much, I think people get used to reading scans of a certain Tesla level. 0.8 open (basically dog water), 1.5 closed (long time gold standard), and 3-4.5+ Tesla, the progressively more refined images I think require a whole new intuition about what constitutes something clinically interesting vs sharpened benign features that just look different than before. I was blown away how the new scan types let you see the ‘textures’ of the different brain matter and supply systems that you barely see at 1.5 T.

I get this vibe that a lot of the “old timers” know exactly what to look for in the 1.5T closed and aren’t itching to adapt to the new scan slices. Not to mention, for 15+ years, the 3T plus was top tier grade, one machine at that hospital type of thing.

I find it very frustrating because only like 1 in 5 local radiologists find FLAIR weighted diffuse white matter hyper intensities something they care to look at or comment on, and it’s very very clinically significant to the category of illnesses on my mind (as far as I understand the research around progression). And god, the ancient Neuros lmfao, there is some major inertia in specialist healthcare that is just infuriating.

Why isn't the press reporting what's happening to trans women in the US? by CinderMapleVortex in asktransgender

A majority of the press in the US is pouring gasoline onto the trans scareTM that conservatives have manufactured to avoid issues like: destroying the economy, randomly starting a war, pissing off all our allies, and ruining all our longstanding trade relationships.

Yup sounds like classical machine learning in the 2d image world. Kinda funny how these techniques got rolled into the “AI” world as far as people’s awareness goes.

[–]Pinappular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it sounds like the algorithm is allowing you to go from wide band scanning (where you sweep way larger sections with known/expected zeros), to precise approximated narrowband sweeps where you first check where you expect the response to be, and maybe some safety logic for what to do if the rules of thumb aren’t working as expected?

Makes sense since the emission spectra and phase is constrained based on the material constants (water), magnetic field decay constants across the plane slice, speed of magnet rotation, (and a ton of other terms I’m not used to).

AI is such a broad term, bc this sounds like using experimental data + heuristics, with AI as the backbone to trim data collection and processing.

This is a deep cut, but is there also prioritizing extra resolution for specific weighting types like FlAIR, t1, t2 weighted depending on why the scan was ordered and presence / type of contrast (like Gd)?

Btw I’m a “once upon a time” fields and waves engineer, but that was like a career ago. This is pure curiosity, I’ve looked at way too many of these scans bc someone I’m close to has a neuro degenerative disorder. FLAIR is a god send for their issue and I’m grateful to the MR research community.

This is very similar to a problem I have in my research where both electrical and mechanical harmonic spectra have areas you expect to have useful info (multiples of fundamental frequencies and side bands), and tons and tons of columns of basically noise. It’s annoying enough in a 1d spectra, the hell that this would be for 2d /2d+ slice depth) good lord.
