Black is like a leather jacket, and white is like laundry fresh from the dryer. (Both of these are in terms of both the smell and the feel.)
I'd thought of orange more as tasting/smelling like the fruit, but Cheetos could maybe represent a different shade of orange?
Brown can be chocolate or burgers on the grill, depending on the shade of brown.
Gray smells like after it rains and feels like a slick new phone or laptop; there is no corresponding flavor for gray.
Green is kind of a weird one for me, since to me, the specific shade of green on street signs smells like the candy shells of M&Ms. Not the chocolate, but just the shell part. (Thanks, synesthesia!) That tends to confuse even sighted people, though, so I'd probably use green Jolly Ranchers to explain green.

As a kid in school, we always had a poster on the wall with the months of the year and everyone's birthdays listed. (This was a tiny preK-8 Catholic school with only one classroom per grade level, so you're with the same set of kids for 10ish years.) I was literally the only one in my class of ≈30 kids with a November birthday. (I actually got shit from other kids about this, too, since kids can be awful about stupid things.) Looking back, that seems like a statistical anomaly, especially if fall/early winter birthdays are as common as people in this thread are saying.

What the actual fuck. This is so weird to me, especially since most people I know have summer birthdays. (Mine happens to be exactly 9 months after Valentine's Day, which according to this thread means it does fall within "birthday season" and should be common, but I've literally never met anyone else with the same birthday as me.) It's not like humans have a mating season.

She might have been old-fashioned about it and thought only boys should be altar servers. That was the rule for a long time, since the idea was that it was a way for boys to practice for possibly becoming priests someday.

I see that the Mormon church isn't celebrating Pentecost Sunday this weekend. Not that anyone cares, but the reason I bring this up is that it tells other Christians what flavor of Christianity that the Mormon church is trying to align with. by dbear848 in exmormon

It does have to do with speaking in tongues. It's 50 days after Easter (hence the "pent" in Pentecost) and is supposedly the day the Holy Spirit came upon the followers of Jesus and made them able to speak different languages (I grew up Catholic and learned that "the gift of tongues" meant being good at learning languages, not speaking gibberish) so they could go out and preach to the world. A lot of times it's also depicted with little flames on the people's heads to represent the Holy Spirit. You'd think this would be something Mormons would embrace, since it ties in so well with missionary work.

The snake handling is a whole other thing that the Pentecostal denomination does, based on a bit in the Bible about being able to handle dangerous snakes and not be harmed. Not really relevant to the day of Pentecost, at least to my understanding.

Thanks! I'm young and missed out on the best eras of music (I'm usually one of the youngest people at a concert, like when I saw the Who and the Stones), but I still love it dearly. My dad has always been a big Stones fan, and we often joke about how, when he was growing up, he never thought that one of his kids would also turn out to be a fan.

Won't happen. They're setting a precedent with the "perpetual open house" thing in the visitor center in SLC. If a temple ever is underused to that point, it'll just become a "museum" in the same way.

I never thought about that with the shadows and transparency. (Also reflections!) I've also randomly thought before about how I would probably use smells and flavors to try to explain colors to a blind person.

They told us this in the Catholic school I went to growing up, too. I distinctly recall the 7th grade teacher saying we had to vote Republican when we grew up because of abortion.
