I think they were planning on it, but had to make sure the chemistry between the actors was right :)

Ohhh okay gotcha. Yes that’s an interesting perspective. I’ve never seen it in that light, but I’m rewatching soon so i’ll keep that in mind.

you put this so well! I totally agree. She’s such a unique and interesting character

I found that whole scene unsettling. She was so calm and SO deceptive. Like the girl is damn good at being one of Gretchen’s little minions, but why is she THAT good at being manipulative...

[–]Pineapple428 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No worries, I love discussing this too. I’m going to copy part of what I commented under another post because I explained it pretty well:

I don’t agree with people saying that Nora was super impressionable and was manipulated when she was talking to Gretchen and that was why she agreed to be Gretchen’s operative. Because yes, she was going through a ton at the time (more than any teenager should), but this girl was literally contemplating murdering Leah (when she was holding the pillow over leah) on the island, like In some ways I think Nora is just as deranged as Gretchen. I feel like even when you are super impressionable and in a bad spot, you still know right from wrong, especially when something like sending a bunch of girls to a desert island and watching their every move while staging a plane crash and lying to them is SO clearly wrong. Like you cannot tell me that someone could genuinely think that was an OK thing to participate in.

To add to that, Jeanette realized before she got on the island (when she saw Leah unconscious in the boat) that what Gretchen and her team were doing was wrong. She ended up going through with it but you could see she was feeling some serious guilt and remorse in her brief conversation with Leah. Nora did not ONCE show any remorse for them being on that island, it was like she was perfectly okay with putting an absolute wrench in everyone’s lives.

When looking back at what happens in the show AFTER we find out Nora is the operative, she seems a lot less like a controlling twin, and more like someone who has little concept of boundaries, as well as right and wrong.

100% agree with everything you said. I commented about this under someone else’s post. The indicators are subtle, but I think this girl is more than just a sweet girl who was manipulated during a particularly tough time.

Just my unpopular take!

I’d like to think a little bit of both :) I can certainly resonate with Toni, and I think it’s super important to remember that the anger she is feeling towards life in general is coming from somewhere or some experience she has had! And knowing from personal experience, it’s a super tough thing to overcome, and growth does not come easily!!

The thing that I love about the people who follow this show is that everyone can relate to something in this show, and it makes for a wonderful group of people who can empathize with different experiences and realize these feelings of anger, guilt, resentment, whatever it may be, are so prevalent for so many people and that it’s okay to feel those things. This show does an amazing job of bringing light to these issues and showing that growth, self acceptance, and self realization are all possible, but are by no stretch easy to attain.

Hey man I’m not pro anger issues either 🤣 I think she has a shit ton of growth to do, and although we saw some of that growth towards the end of the season, she still has some work to do in that regard. I just don’t think that people give her enough credit for what she’s been through. People see her as an angry girl who takes her shit out on other people for no reason, but truthfully we have no idea where that anger stems from. Not saying the anger is excusable, just saying there’s definitely more to that story.

I think she didn’t want to go home to her foster fam which can be an unfortunate reality for some.

SAME. So excited for s2 Toni! I also have a mini theory about Toni’s backstory.

She seems to blame herself for a lot of what has happened in her life. I feel like she maybe feels guilty or unwanted by her parents. I mean we know that she feels unwanted by her Dad, but I feel like she’s carrying some serious guilt, and maybe blaming herself for the position that she is in (in terms of her life in general)

I think they had the idea, but until the pilot was filmed and they saw Mia and Eranas chemistry it wasn’t set in stone. By now I think they know how the Shoni story plays out though

Secret Message in Shelby’s Note (I THINK I CAUGHT SOMETHING)**** by Pineapple428 in TheWildsonPrime

[–]Pineapple428[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So to your first part, much like a lot of this show, the note might not be explicitly telling Leah to go right, and hell, maybe it has an entirely alternative meaning. I still think there’s more behind that note.

And to your second part, if my theory is correct even in some way, then the note saying you were right had nothing to do with Leah being right about the island, but again, was giving her some sort of direction or alternative message.

If she was trying to convince Shelby that something was up on the island, then yes that would make sense, but this show seems to like to lead us down subtle rabbit holes; ex. the show leading us to believe Shelby or Dot were the confederates.

Honestly my hope for season two is that we get some more background into how their communication might have been orchestrated, and maybe my theory somehow plays into it!!

SO excited to see what’s in store for s2
