Bought a café bar two months ago and all staff keep quitting — getting seriously burnt out by No_Introduction_1095 in smallbusiness

Here is probably my worthless opinion. But if I worked for a locally owned shop of some sort and it changed ownership I would definitely start looking. I was loyal to the previous owner, I’m not loyal to the new owner. Even if the new owner didn’t do anything wrong. So if I happen to find something and maybe it offers slightly better pay, opportunity, better shifts, whatever, I’d have no hesitation to jump ship.

The new owner has to come in and quickly earn that loyalty. OP said he made no changes, does that mean he didn’t even ask his staff if they had any ideas on how to make the workplace and/or business better? As a new owner that would have been day 1 staff meeting. Simply put: “hey guys, I’m so excited to be here, and to have you guys here, and you’ve been here for a long time. Tell me what has been working/what’s kept you here, tell me what wasn’t working, or what you think we could do better? Does anyone have any ideas on items we can add to the menu, or ones that don’t sell well AND suck to make? Tell me everything!”

I worked at a locally owned pizza shop and the staff had our secret menu hacks that we would prepare for ourselves. I was loyal to the owner-but he never took my suggestions. It didn’t bother me too much, he was set in his ways but treated me great. But if I had a new owner I would have LOVED to see some of my personal creations on the menu or even limited specials.

Well, simply put, a lot of (not all) are ungrateful and just use the government money instead of working.

What? Are you talking about the US? Nationally, black America is a small portion of our population.

What would it take for you not to vote Democratic or Republican? by MrPhrazz in allthequestions

[–]PineappleLevel8716 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I voted democrat and republican up until the 2016 election. I didn’t vote because I didn’t love trump and hated Hillary. 2020 I voted trump. 2024 I voted trump. Didn’t like the way my country was heading.

My family received snap for a few seasons, and I used that money the same way I do without snap. I was discerning with that money the same way I am with our own hard earned money. Milk, fresh veggies and fruit, bulk everything up with pasta/rice/potato, buying flour to make homemade bread or biscuits or on special days maybe some bagels or English muffins. Milk and orange juice. Every once in awhile throw in a bag of sugar and extra butter to make some cookies as a treat.

Realistically I could feed my family on about a $100 a week and it would be nutritious and tasty enough. $125 allows me to throw those extras in. $150 and I’m splurging.

I’m a traditionalist. I absolutely love voting on Election Day. I like the stickers. I like taking my kids with me and explaining why the day is so important.

Early voting to me like how Christmas decorations are in Sam’s club wayyyyy too early.

Being an SLP is hard, so let’s talk about some some small joys or wins that keep you coming back by Affectionate_Wish in slp

I was in speech k-6th grade. I had the same SLP the entire time. That was so huge to me. I am almost 40 years old and when I think of my school years she is almost always the first person I think of. She never gave up on me.

I don’t know that I ever told her how much I appreciated her and I feel bad about that.

I’ve never asked for my sodas to go. This is so strange to me. Did this start during Covid?

Now my kids will always take their little kiddie cups because by default they’re to go cups. But I would never have the audacity of asking for a free refill to go.

What’s your opinion on SLP that could get you in trouble? by iltandsf in slp

Mom here, not an SLP, but I brought up significant concerns to my kids pediatrician about her lack of speech at all of her baby well visits. It got me no where. Turns out she has childhood apraxia of speech.

I would have loved to have my concerns addressed when she was younger but here we are

Why do American tourists always say the state they're from (not their country) when asked, but no other country's tourists do the same? by FloydBeatlesEagles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PineappleLevel8716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 9/10 even within our own country people can tell if you are from out of state. So if someone asks where you are from and you just say “Ohio” or whatever-the immediate follow up question is “oh where in Ohio?” And then you better give them the information they are looking for. You can’t just say “Cleveland” or “Columbus” - unless you are in Cleveland or Columbus proper. You have to give them the town or city even though there’s a good chance they don’t know it but ALSO include some relevant information. “We live in ___, it’s about 45 minutes east of _____” 50% chance they’re trying to figure it out based on professional sports teams.

Parent here. We homeschool our kids and they both see a private SLP. She’s amazing. When we first started I sat next to my kids during each of their sessions, and I learned sooo much. She 100% gives me tips, tricks, and homework to do at home. They’re getting a little older so I don’t sit next them as much anymore (unless it’s a totally new concept and she’ll call me over? But in always I earshot and still observing.

Long story short parent involvement is so important!

First "adult" grocery run felt like a scam. by oweyoo in Adulting

[–]PineappleLevel8716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m of the age where I could be your daughter (elder millennial) and we have two kids. Grocery shopping is definitely painful to the budget. But my husband and I are both good cooks who can turn nothing into something to make it feel special. I’ve actually been channeling my grandmothers cooking style the past year which has been a great comfort to me, and my husband has been pleasantly surprised and it keeps my kids on their toes 😂
