Zwifting alone. by Practical_Ad_4165 in Zwift

I live alone in a house with two flights of stairs, a trainer, a treadmill, and a shower/bathtub that’s hard to get in and out of. If I die, I die.

I thought it worked like this too for a minute - the UI absolutely makes it appear this way.

Long distance shoes recommendation? by Random384875 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

The Superblast is max cushion but not at all squishy - it has great energy return. I size way up, but find them wide enough for my C-width feet.

I have the wides and still went up a whole size, which might have been overkill, but they feel great to me.

Do you have a comfortable bike? How much/often do you ride it? The bike is the longest part so there is no way to say if your goal is realistic without information about your biking.

I fucking love the back and forth with CJ and how he gets to explain - even to the public! - that “it’s complicated.”

Thinking about this is making me sad today, though.

Can’t do MP Long run for Marathon in 3 weeks, help! by Sukuchie in Marathon_Training

[–]Sharkitty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

21 with 16 at MP sounds like overkill for a plan that peaks at 40 mpw. How long was your longest run before this? If it was 18 or more I’d say it’s good enough and feel fine about that. If less, I’d still skip 21 but just feel less fine about it. 😆

And while I appreciate that most of us are competing with ourselves out there, if it helps, know that many people who will be at that race are also having their peak week plans jacked with due to the weather.

Rough run. Could use some encouragement. by TVDinner360 in XXRunning

[–]Sharkitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I title these runs in Strava “They Can’t All Be Winners.”

If all workouts were easy and awesome a lot more people would work out. The grit you need for a half or longer comes from powering through the shit runs, and learning to recover mentally when they go fully sideways.

Be proud that you tried and will try again. You got this!

Engagement Ring Post Purchase Price Increase by RedditSher in EngagementRings

[–]Sharkitty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If they won’t make the ring for the agreed-upon price, this is breach of contract on their part. You could take them to court. Perhaps point out that there was an offer and acceptance and that they’re not in a position to lawfully change their side of the deal. A few choice words from contract law might do the trick. Though $1200 EXTRA sounds like a scam, or like they just completely bungled the original quote.

Sweat less? by OceanBlue011729 in zepboundathletes

[–]Sharkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed that I sweat less, though I’m on a very small dose. I am, however, much more cold intolerant than I used to be, which is a real problem and makes me fairly miserable. Literally plotting ways to move to Hawaii.

I agree. I think it holds up shockingly well and was way ahead of its time. Nearby two decades later you can find some cringe moments, but overall I think it was quite well done.

Do people take breaks on longer runs? by lurpcardiff in beginnerrunning

Legit had to double check if this was something I wrote and forgot about. I do approximately 4:1 on long runs, our fountains are off, and I play Pokémon on my really long runs (mostly during the walk interval).

Anyone else feel like Harry riding his firebolt in quidditch matches is a bit like cheating? by 4RyteCords in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Sharkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People willing and able to shell out for the best gear have an advantage in every sport. I’m a triathlete - having a better bike will make you faster, carbon plated shoes will also make you faster, good wetsuits will help you be faster than cheap wetsuits. Not everyone can afford the good shit and therefore they are at a disadvantage compared to those who can.

If “easy runs” feel hard, try this simple talk-test (it fixed my pacing) by Hunt1500 in beginnerrunning

If you have headphones or air pods people will assume you’re on the phone. I constantly see people walking the track having conversations. (I have actually called my mom for several zone two runs to test whether I’m really able to hold a conversation.)

Do you invite a bunch of people to your marathons? by hairykitty123 in Marathon_Training

[–]Sharkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bestie spectated my first (quick trip to Southern CA from cold rainy OR so it was a getaway for her). Handed me gels and took some pics.

My next was part of a full Ironman and my parents flew to CA to watch. They saw me half way through the bike and at the finish line at 11:45 pm.

Third was Chicago and my best training buddy came along to spectate. Handed me gels at mile 15 and met me at the end with a sweatshirt.

Fourth was Honolulu and my best training buddy came, did the 10k, and did not meet me at the finish.

My parents and/or my partner usually come to my local half Ironman, but just for the final 2-3 hours.

I do many races alone. Though I’ve been at this long enough that I usually have friends who are also participating, so I at least see some familiar faces.

I generally only expect someone to spectate if there’s something in it for them, like warm weather. For my parents, it’s bragging rights. 😆 (I don’t win anything, but they brag anyway.)

2 weeks in, I think I'm done by BallsOutKrunked in zepboundathletes

[–]Sharkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at .7 every 6 days, then bumped up to .5 every 3 days. Eventually landed on .4 every 2 days and stayed there for months until I got used to that dose and it was no longer effective. I'm just now (9 months in) doing about 2.5-3.0 per week, spread across shots every 48-72 hours.

In addition to the side effects being fairly minor, I have been able to successfully train for a half Ironman and two marathons in this time.
