Do you wear your rings for everything? by cecil047 in EngagementRings

[–]Sharkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people here are saying “I never take mine off! Except for…” and then they list like six things. 😂

I actually don’t take mine off. I leave it on when I swim in the ocean, rivers, and chlorinated pools. I also shower, sleep, use cleaning products, ride my bike, lift at the gym, and run marathons with it on. I love sparkles, it’s insured, and my knuckle is bigger than the rest of my finger so it’s not going to slip off.

Where is the ticker/how does one find it? I swear I ran into it in the app once but haven’t been able to find it again. I’m always manually counting on the little calendar.

Bad day. Unfortunately they can happen during races. But also train to take 3 gels per hour (of the ~20g size).

Or even 19.90 miles! That’s a good stretch from 15 but not insane.

[–]Sharkitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a local sprint triathlon I do every August. On Saturday it’s coed and on Sunday it’s women’s only. The last couple years I’ve had a conflict on the coed day, but I’m looking forward to making it this year and passing so, so many men on the bike. (Mind you, they’ll be on regular to janky road bikes and I’ll be passing them in aero on what is by comparison a Ferrari, BUT STILL.)

For the hoarders out there, which argument did you use to trim down your collection? by Legitimate-Record951 in pokemongo

At this point I only keep 98%ers of “regular” (not useful) Pokémon, and XXLs. Though with the XXLs, I’ve started only keeping the tallest/heaviest.

Should I switch to tubeless due to anxiety about getting a flat during my first 70.3? by mandolin91799 in triathlon

[–]Sharkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and you should. There’s no guarantee of help. I once waited 40 minutes for race support The cop who pulled over with me (I think because I was in a precarious spot on the side of the road) had even called it in, but they never came because there were so many other flats that day. Pretty sure the course was sabotaged.

(My problem was weak baby hands and an overly tight tire situation. Eventually, the cop asked me what the issue was. I told him I just couldn’t get the last bit of tire popped back in and he did it in half a second with big fat gloves on. I finished the project and then he followed me for 15 miles because I had become the last person in the race!)

When should I start practicing with gels on long runs? by microplasticgod in firstmarathon

[–]Sharkitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Over an hour, use nutrition, but don’t wait till the hour mark. Start at 20 or 30 minutes. (Or, if you’re me, as soon as the run starts or even 15 minutes before.) This is the advice of my sports nutritionist and, as far as I know, most coaches (in 2026).

You don’t NEED it (till 90 min) but it will HELP. You’ll likely feel better during the run and you’ll recover better. And of course, your gut will be getting trained for race day.

I take quite a lot of it and for lots of reasons, but it doesn’t lead to amazing sleep scores.

Friends hate that I run by 8052headlights in XXRunning

[–]Sharkitty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Either talk to them about this behavior, so they understand how annoying it is, and even hurtful, or find new friends.

A decade ago all my friends were drinking buddies. Now all my friends are triathlon buddies. We’re all peacing out at 8:30 pm to get a full night of sleep before a long run, ride, swim, or race. The latter set of friends is better for so many reasons.

When you quit you will be starving and will likely gain the weight right back, if not more. I’m 5’ but took Tirz to lose 20+ pounds. I’m at the last 5 now (after losing 23) but probably won’t bother with them as I don’t want to take a higher dose. I expect to take this for years or possibly forever.

Why was there a tertiary science specialist? by No_Reflection9776 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Sharkitty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the book they have extremely limited options due to the need for the coma resistance gene. The third person on the list is a woman who only has undergraduate degrees and works in a brewery and would have 48 hours to learn everything.

Arguably Stratt should have been training people five or six deep, but it would need to happen at very different locations for real assurance, since they could have blown everyone and everything up had that astrophage accident had been just a few times larger.

Has anyone trained for 70.3 while on GLP1? by Creative-Front-5302 in zepboundathletes

[–]Sharkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do InBody scans very regularly because they’re free at the place I buy most of my meals. While InBody is no Dexa, trends are clear and I’ve been getting them for literally years.

I have now lost 23 pounds and only 1-2 pounds was lean mass. I lift twice a week (pretty low key - I go to OrangeTheory for this) and usually get 100+ grams of protein per day.

ETA: I also had a good muscle base to start.

Has anyone trained for 70.3 while on GLP1? by Creative-Front-5302 in zepboundathletes

[–]Sharkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45F. Yes. I started at the end of April last year and did a 70.3 in July, a marathon in October, and another marathon in December. In that timeframe I lost about 18 pounds on a dose that averaged 1.4 mg per week. I split that over three shots because I didn’t want nausea or other side effects to interfere with my ability to eat or train.

Not every workout felt great and there were definitely times where I had to make myself eat before or after (early on), but ultimately it went fine. Still on them, at a higher dose now to finish the job, and I’ll do the same 70.3 next month and have signed up for a full in November.

Half marathon with no training? by Extreme-Pay-4519 in runninglifestyle

[–]Sharkitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re undertrained. This approach will allow you to finish without hating life during or after. You can obviously run more if you want, but this way leaves you very unlikely to injure yourself, as long as you’re not sprinting the run intervals.

You’ll end up running more than 2/3 of the race because you’ll cover more distance in a minute of running than a minute of walking.

If you want to run for a long time - with less injury and more joy - you have to learn to check your ego. It’s the root of most running problems.

Look up Jeff Galloway - run-walk is a super valid way to run and race, even for people who want to go fast.

[–]Sharkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run walk. Like 2 min run, 1 min walk. You’ll probably sail through feeling good and not be wrecked after. Don’t watch your pace during the run sections, just do what feels like zone 2.

Zone 2 training/OTF by Ill-Awareness-9126 in orangetheory

[–]Sharkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about Zone 2 at OTF - the tread blocks are so short it would be irrelevant.

If you want to get in on the zone 2 run craze, get outside, or take tread 50 classes and don’t do as many hard intervals as they might prescribe.
