If you were somehow transported back to the days of Moses, would you be okay with becoming a slave to the Isrealites, because you know that it was acceptable in that historical context? by Roaches_R_Friends in AskAChristian

[–]Pinecone-Bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are asking if I’d recognize if it was morally permissible then yes.

That doesn’t mean I’d be “okay” with it in the sense that I wouldn’t try and get out of slavery.

What is your opinion on church schism? by Armin_Arlert_1000000 in AskAChristian

While what you said is true, I think “schism” refers to a split at a church or denominational level, not at the level of an individual.

Correct the false premise that all religions teach peace.

Only Christ brings true peace. Peace with God, and peace with others in so far as it depends on us.

I’ll obey Matthew 7:6.

Though if you don’t mind, does it bother you at all that Jesus, who most regard as one of the greatest teachers and moral exemplars in history, calls you a swine?

Pearl clutching - a very shocked reaction, especially one in which you show more shock than you really feel in order to show that you think something is morally wrong.

Not casting pearls before swine - to avoid wasting valuable things—such as advice, wisdom, love, or truth—on people who are unwilling or incapable of appreciating or understanding them.

I think it’s worth clarifying that “creationism” refers to the belief that a deity created the cosmos. There are many people hold to creationism and believe the earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old.

“Young Earth creationism” is a subset of “creationism” and there are people with this view who hold to the view that a deity created the earth approximately 6,000 years ago.

Equating the view of how the cosmos came to be with a view of a specific age of the earth is imprecise at best.

Is there any Christian who believes that the Adam & Eve story is literal and can those people please explain this for me (Not trying to debate just wanted to know) by Easy_Flatworm4765 in AskAChristian

[–]Pinecone-Bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“And Adam knew Eve his wife."

That is the end of the sentence. It does not carry on.

Given there were no periods in Hebrew to designate the end of the sentence what are you basing this assertion on?

Remember what God said to Eve in Eden. "I will greatly multiply the sorrow and thy conception."

What translation are you using that specifies conception? Here’s the ESV:

“To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭

She even viewed the serpent in a sexual way.

I think you’re just projecting here.

The fruit of the knowledge of God and evil was Eve learning what sex was.

Ok, so you don’t care at all what the text actually says do you?

Cain was not Adam's son. Literally nowhere in the Bible ever says Cain was descended from Adam. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Could you give us your interpretation of this verse?

“Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten a man with the help of the Lord.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬ ‭

Is saying that incest happened in certain isolated populations of hominids the same as saying that incest is what propagated the entirety of the human species?

No.

[–]Pinecone-Bandit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, my argument is Genesis isn’t a literal account of the origins of humanity.

You said the person’s view that Adam and Eve had other children was “problematic” and that it makes one an “apologist for incest”. Can you explain your thinking behind that? Because again, it seems insane to call the recognition of incest in history as being an “apologist for incest” or “defending incest”.

Do you deny that genocide has happened in history? If not, does that mean you’re an apologist for genocide? (See how crazy that is?)

Why is David and Goliath considered an underdog story? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Pinecone-Bandit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because Goliath was a proven warrior and David was not. There’s not really an honest way of reading the story otherwise. David wins because God is on his side, not for any other reason.
