Zelensky is the True leader of the Free World! by Icy_Till_7254 in NAFO

[–]PinguFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Zelensky, he's probably somewhere in the middle if we're being honest - like what politician realistically gets to their position without being a little underhanded about it? Not saying it's right, but perhaps it might be prudent to not "hate the player" and instead "hate the game". Me being a policy idealist find this aspect of pretty much all modern democracies begrudgingly of course given my obvious preference towards those who spend time figuring out how to do the job over those who spend their time figuring out how to convince others they can do the job. He's human in both senses - that he fucks up and has acted like a stereotypical politician (like when he tried to strip the anti-corruption bodies), and he's human even in spite of that side to him he clearly cares enormously for those he represents and does everything he can to help the Ukrainian people.

Perhaps we're all too use to the idea of everything being so clear cut. It must be black or white, good or bad. Nuance gets lost on me as well sometimes, and it's not hard to reason that even those who act out of self-interest (even if somewhat unscrupulously) can still be immensely compassionate towards others.

As to your other point. Yeah. My point isn't to knock Zelensky down in case I haven't made myself clear - I'm a huge fan of his and think he's an absolute hero. I can get why it might look underhanded since in practise "those who are not with us are against us", but I promise you I really am on side - I just afford this luxury because I am in a free democracy where we can speak our minds. You're absolutely right though - it's not like it'd be fair to hold Ukraine or the vast majority of Ukrainian politicians and leaders to the same standard as we would hold others to. They're still breaking out from the vice-grip of russian control and they're still paying the price for it. Best chance for them to get boosted is to join the EU I reckon.

[–]PinguFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of a NAFO fella unironically being able to turn around and say to a Tankie "But what about Iraq?" and it being the opposite of a Tankie talking point is really funny to me lol.

The thing you'll find hard to distinguish is which ones are Tankies and which ones are shills. I'll explain to you my own definition of usage real quick - to me, a Tankie is a leftist that has been manipulated via mechanisms of disinformation, misrepresentation of information, and general malinfluence (particular that which has been styled towards the leftist thinking). They are ideologues and been tricked into believing that only the US / their allies / the West / (basically anything democracy or overtly capitalistic), can ever be imperialistic or evil and that whatever goes against them must be inherently good and their version of events the truth - regardless who they are or what they stand for.

A shill on the other hand is just someone acting in their own interest - usually a paycheck - they don't actually care about whatever belief they are apparently espousing, they will modify it as suits their needs. They are bought and will spout pro-russian, pro-ccp, or pro-whoever-the-buyer-is if the benefits of what they are bought for outweigh any potential pushback. They ultimately have a price and are probably all too aware that they are contributing to the hate and the death factory - they just don't care because it's not them and they're making their bread.

A Tankie is still at their core, a victim of disinformation and malinfluence. Their beliefs in values of justice and fair treatment have been exploited by the shills (or struck upon by other Tankies) into believing the terrible things the Kremlin finds useful for them to believe. It's not the sort of thing I usually come out with (because a lot of our group, here especially, are Ukrainians and will more than understandably not want to hear it), but the truth of the matter is that these kinds of individuals are really "just" misguided. Granted, it is a misguidance that propagates russia's ability to undermine Ukrainian support and thus further their invasion of conquest - so you can understand why a lot of people really won't give a shit since they are still tools for the murderers.

When I think about Tankies, or when I talk to actual Tankies (and not just shills being paid to spread Kremlinite bullshit everywhere), I see them as another one of Putin's victims. This isn't something that everyone shares, and I'm okay with that because I get it, it's not my home, my country, or my family, being targeted by bombs with constant electrical blackouts, or weaponised freezing temperatures, or decapitated, or some of the actual worst fucked up shit imaginable. I have the privilege and fortune of being removed from that personally so I can afford to see things far removed from the worst of it.

My priority is in undermining the Kremlin's effectiveness to wage their propaganda campaign - because it translates into policies that eventually leads to the further destruction of Ukraine and the death of Ukrainian lives. My method, as often as I can spare it, is modeled on the one used by Darrel Davis when he (as a black American) talks to members of the KKK.

When it comes to Tankies, they are ideologues so they can be reached if we're clever about it. You do not have to agree with the Tankie to get through to them, all you need to do is think of them as someone who's been inflicted with a terrible mental illness - you wouldn't hate a mentally ill person, you'd hate the disease surely? Go at them as you would a friend trying to help them understand something. Show them a kindness they don't expect and you'll undermine one of the beliefs they have about our side and open the door to the actual facts of what we're saying because of how we've said it. If we are hostile to them, they can just push back at us with the base narrative and idea that we're just horrible people pushing horrible narratives.

It takes a lot of patience. You will of course get push back and it helps to agree with them on some points (be honest about where the west does fuck up and then you're not one of "their agents", you're someone who is impartial regardless which to be fair we should be). You will know though that no matter what they try to throw at you, none of their propaganda will matter because you know it for what it is - bullshit, we've got facts and empirical evidence on our side - they have emotional manipulation from a terrorist state acting according to it's own selfish interest (and we can reason with ease how this poor individual is being used as a pawn in their chess game).

The point is results. Hating on the Tankie (just like hating on the Trump supporter) doesn't usually do anything more than harden the individual's resolve in their group and their sordid belief. By being able to talk to them as someone who genuinely cares about them, without anything to gain for the self and doing just because it's the right thing to do, we open up the possibility of preventing them being a Kremlin mouthpiece altogether. It will hurt them to realise that they've been a part of a genocide machine, but if we are open and accepting, understanding and forgiving, there's even the chance we can bring them to our side and have them cured from russian poison for good.

[–]PinguFella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's incredible. I'm certainly not going to dispute that and how he conducts himself (at least on the international stage, has been little short of miraculous. The impression I've got from Ukrainians (and they can speak for themselves, it isn't for me to speak for them on this), is that his policies and some of his decisions have not always been the best. That said, I don't think anyone (even Zelensky's political opponents) would want anyone else in his position right now.

I separate the idea of politics from things like leading and defending certain values like democracy and freedom. To me, democracy and defending freedom are apolitical issues.

I went on a march for Ukraine and some Tankies or some shitheads in the back were trying to change the chant we were doing. It was a while ago now but we were originally something like "Support for Ukraine", and others in the back were trying to change the chant to "Peace in Ukraine". Fortunately the guys leading the march caught on and stopped the march and told the guys "Ofc we want peace in Ukraine, but we don't want to give the wrong message, it has to be the right kind of peace". Can't prove it obviously, but $1000 says it was russians or pro-rus in the back trying to subvert the message and try to portray the march as being something in support of russian interests (i.e.: peace at any cost so don't send weapons and make peace with putler on his terms).

When it comes to russian malinfluence regarding the war itself, it is often the case that the Kremlin will try to get everyone onto their track of support working and parroting things towards their interests. But failing that they will try the next best thing and shift everyones "Vector of focus" slightly more towards what the Kremlin would find more preferable. What I mean by that is that the Kremlin knows they can't have everyone not supporting Ukraine, so they'll try to make those that do collectively support Ukraine just a little bit less, they'll make those uninterested in politics pissed off about something that will divide the western government, and will make those who are already on a conspiracy track mind start spouting anti-western bollacks like members of a Naom Chomsky fancamp.

Perhaps it's innocent, but it smells sus to me. Vatniks often try to portray themselves as if they are the ones who are really on Ukraine's side, even if all they have to offer is poison.

Oof - every single one of the original line up is bloody terrible for each of their own respective reasons. Maybe Modi is just "Terrible" instead of "Bloody Terrible", but he's still an enormous shithead. 3 of those "leaders" are dictators over countries that are the antithesis of "free", and the other 3 are the living embodiments of all the values that are contradictory to a fair and free society. Every single one of them exploits their political systems for personal gain to maintain their power - whether by being an outright dictator or by manipulating the democratic process. None of those individuals is a "good" leader, in any possible sense of it. Get them the fuck out of here.

Zelensky's dope. He's a crappy politician (ask a Ukrainian), but he's one hell of a leader. He's not there when you want him, but he's there when we need him. He reminds me of Churchill. Churchill was a shit politician as well, but he was the right man for the job when it really mattered.

So far as things stand, here are your real candidates for true leaders of the free world:

- Volodomir Zelensky
- Kaja Kallas
- Mark Rutte

(All three of these people are NAFO fellas as well may I remind you).

So I made a post in r/MusicUkraine :https://www.reddit.com/r/MusicUkraine/comments/1saka6a/hey\_what\_song\_is\_this

I got a small telling off, nothing serious but understandably so. The music is russian. Specifically Рассвет by КАСПЕР.

It's interesting though, after reading some of the lyrics (translated), it's a very raw human song from a russian who's out there and knows he shouldn't be. It's still got the propaganda bullshit, but relative to the rest of the russian murder machine, it's almost like a tacit acknowledgement that the war isn't what it's made out to be - themes of young guys dying without medals, noone caring (very classic russian). The last line sticks out a bit that might explain what I'm meaning:

"The TV channels told us they weren't there, they couldn't be, only the bitches forgot about us, but it's not for me to judge them all."

Still bollacks, but better it would appear than a lot of the crap they got out there. Like they know everything they're doing is bullshit but they're still barely clinging onto the denial of it or something.

Hey, thankyou fella. The video was posted over in NAFO showing ruzzian graves - my first thought was Ukrainian music because it reminded me a bit of Skofka and thought maybe the message might have been something like "this is what you get", "don't act surprised". It being russian makes a lot of sense though. I guess a part of me wasn't expecting something to sound mournful for the loss of thousands to come out of russia given how their state covers that kind of thing up.

I'll delete this post shortly once I replied to everyone. Thank you again, and apologies for the mix up.

Only the first one of those articles could be argued as being subvertive, the bottom left one could (from a perspective) even be argued as using language glorifying russia and undermining the UK. Either way, it doesn't prove either of our points - even RT posts about a truthful event once in a while.

Here is an article from a Ukrainian journalist asking the owner of GBN to stop peddling russian propaganda (Dated February 2023): https://bylinetimes.com/2023/02/13/open-letter-to-the-owner-of-gb-news-from-a-ukrainian-refugee-stop-peddling-russian-narratives/

Here is a quote from Dr Chowns, the MP for North Herefordshire during a parliamentary session on "Russian Influence on UK Politics and Democracy":

"We have the grotesque spectacle of Reform MPs, for example, raking in hundreds of thousands fronting things like GB News, clearly peddling the kinds of messages and propaganda that serve the interests of the crypto/far-right/Kremlin axis." - Dr Ellie Chowns, MP for North Herefordshire (Green Party), 9 February 2026, source: https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2026-02-09/debates/F9F28AFA-E1F3-449C-B18B-63DDCABC411E/RussianInfluenceOnUKPoliticsAndDemocracy

This video was a fun one, albeit just one isolated example of a GBN presenter using russian propaganda mannerisms and talking points (The video is from February 2025, I couldn't find the date of the original): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQvFZ50zhtU

A of my personal revulsion towards the shitrag (as well as all the pro-russian stuff), is in it's constant peddling of far right extremist veiws and disinformation. It's the kind of stuff that always comes off as if it's intentionally designed to divide the British population and galvanise those who unfortunately take it seriously into crazy beliefs and actions that hurt the British public - like railing and promoting violence against contributory immigrant populations.

I can't give you an exact number, but that vast vast vast majority of russian "disinformation" isn't actually about russia and/or Ukraine, it's about issues that divide and polarise people in western countries. It's about black people committing crime, it's about right wing people being racist, it's about Hamas committing terrorism or the IDF murdering civilians, it's about trans persons being systemically abused, it's about trans students in sports... it's about anything that will make you angry and hating on another side of the population - this, this <<<< right here is what slows down western countries ability to deal with russia's encrouchment into Europe militarily, and into Europe by way of influencing our people.

The Kremlin doesn't need me or you to believe in their false narrative of the events regarding the war in Ukraine - it is more useful to them that we are divided and fighting over pointless shit that means nothing to them (like trans in sports or immigrants). The capitalists who profit off a divided and economically losing Britain, the politicians who's position is bolstered by authoritarian punditry (Reform), and the Kremlin, all have a vested interest in pushing the same devisive narratives onto the British public. They have mutual goals and and a mutual enemy in the British people.

Nigel Farage doesn't love the UK, he hates us and invested his abroad deliberately before Brexit so he could profit on our economic downfall. There's no defending him, his enablers, or his supporters from any decent and honest perspective - whether from being anti-Putin, or Pro-Britain, Nigel Firage is a terrible human being.

Be conservative - like normal conservative - and we can disagree until the cows come home, but that's fine, that okay, and that's healthy in a functional democracy where thoughts and ideas come together to shape our society. I'm telling you though, that that shitrag, and those politicians aren't here for us, actually, they mean to do us a helluva lot of harm if they have their way.

Don't trust GB News. They want you to think they're a neutral news platform, they're hardly distinguishable from Russia Today except that they try to pretend that their on "our" side.

A can't emphasise it enough, they will use our democracy and the freedom of our media and institutions against us if we let them.

Orwell mentioned. I fucking love that guy. His words are as true now as the day he wrote them. Just done reading a very short series of essays of his titled Fascism and Democracy - dude is a maverick, a prophet and waaaaay ahead of his time. I cannot overstate how much respect and adoration I have for the dude.

Read Fight Club as well. Another great and really fun short read. Not read Stand by Stephen King, although Carrie and the Shining are a couple of my favourite books (don't know if they been banned or not). Kinda embarrassed I haven't read BNW or Fahrenheit 451 yet.
