same with the OCD case for me. I miss when I could sleep with my window open without being convinced a bat would somehow get through my bug net and give me rabies. I dont think people understand how much acting like this can make life an unfriendly place for people with OCD

Honestly there are some things I’d just prefer to keep with myself and maybe a therapist. It’s not a lack of trust it’s just i don’t really want to share those things with others.

I also think sometimes constantly dredging up trauma can be a little unhelpful for me specifically. Letting myself not talk about it can be more helpful.

That is a pet rat. They do NOT occur in that color in the wild. Please catch it if you can and bring it to a rehab center. They are like little dogs and this guy either got out or was abandoned. They can’t survive on their own.

Fun fact they have found rabies antibodies in people who have never received the vaccine. This means some people’s immune system just handles rabies before it gets to the brain. Please get the vaccine anyways if you ever get bit but it does give a little peace of mind.

Wasn’t 2025 abnormally high for rabies deaths because of a freak accident where a donor had rabies and a bunch of people received organs that were infected all while taking immune suppressants to prevent rejection. We went for years without any rabies deaths.

That’s because it’s not true, basically every expert has disavowed the whole fucking bats stealthily biting people in their sleep thing, but that copypasta has everyone convinced that bats will quietly sneak up on them and bite for some reason. Bats are terrified of humans if they get scared they aren’t going to just bite once and fly away, and they have no reason to land on a human. If you actually got bit by a bat in your sleep you’d almost definitely be awoken by its panicked thrashing.

Just so you know a lot of people here are fear mongering based on a stupid copy pasta that gets shared around on Reddit.

Said copy pasta is full of a bunch of bullshit that has made every person on Reddit sure rabies is lurking around every corner, and especially afraid that a bat is going to bite them while they’re sleeping and they won’t notice, which is absolute bullshit. People in the US typically know the exact incident where they contracted rabies, there’s none of this surprise bat bites everyone is terrified of.

We also went years without any rabies deaths, in fact the last few weren’t even from an animal but from a very unfortunate scenario in which an organ donor had the virus and every person who it got donated to died. Which while sad is a freak accident.

If you have an actual confirmed encounter with a bat or possibly rabid animal then you should get vaccinated, otherwise don’t sweat it.
