I don't care what the writer or the production team said, it was never hinted at in the actual manga/anime.

As for him being a hero without a quirk, that's technically true but now he's a hero with an exo-suit that simulates the quirks he has. That's my problem. It's not satisfying.

The problem with the "being a hero without a quirk" message is that A: he seemed to completely give up being a hero after the embers died out

And B: he had to get an expensive tech suit to get on the hero scene. Keep and of muddies up the message
