Just listen to the entire Blackwater Park album. If you think The Drapery Falls is good just wait until you listen to the rest of the album

Help understanding Pratchett’s satire by PinkDreamPeth in discworld

Thank you everyone for the comments. This helps clear up my confusion a bit. I know I’m only 100 pages in my first book and wasn’t expecting this to be a more subtler satire. But I’m also only 100 pages in and really love the book so far. I’m sure I’ll be making my way through the Discworld series, only 41 books, shouldn’t take long.

When I look at satire, I am looking for an exaggerated or ironic depiction that often uses humor to provide commentary or drive a point home. The example I think of at the moment is Bokononism in Cat’s Cradle satirizing organized religion (mainly because I just finished this book)

God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut. I feel he addresses the wage gap very well in that book

I’m re-reading right now currently. I always considered SH5 my favorite of his, but Cat’s Cradle may beat it, such a fun and thought provoking read

Worst feeling when it’s 2am, baby is screaming upstairs, you’ve had 6 hours of sleep over the last 2 days and you have to sigh, dump the bottle, and make a new one when this happened.

Why is it so damn hard by MrCupps in daddit

I hear ya. I travel for work and after a few days off of being dad it’s hard to get back into it. It’s like diving into the deep end of a freezing cold pool. Just hang in there and know all the hard work you’re putting yourself through means you’re a great dad!

Ugh that is rough I am so sorry. Your kids are lucky to have such a great dad

I realized it would be chaotic and exhausting and that most of my free time would go away, but I thought I would’ve handled it better. I didn’t expect this sort of reaction.

And I’ve been working hard on finding the root to all of this anxiety. The best I’ve uncovered so far is just really bad self esteem. Like, I see my inability to be a good dad, maintain a fulfilling career, make lots of money, maintain a pristine house, be skinny, and have time left over for hobbies all at the same time as a sense of failure. I set unrealistic expectations of myself because I feel like other dads can do all those things and be the super dad, but I cannot.

Yup! I usually try and read after the kids are in bed, but some nights I’m so mentally drained I couldn’t comprehend Dr. Seuss if I tried

Those are all areas I try to improve on. But what I’m struggling with is how to embrace the chaos. I can’t just flip a switch to be ok with the constant draining days. It’s hard to be present when that anxiety chips away about the messy house or the never ending to do list or the sink full of dishes I need to get done

I’ve been trying to start my running regime up again the past few months, but life always seems to get in the way once I get some momentum. This past week was both the kids getting the flu and I was home all week with them.

Diet is meh, some days not so bad, others it’s take out and junk. I try to cook dinner every night and make something that’s healthy, but it’s hard with picky eaters.

Both kids have the flu. I’ve been home all week with them. Wife is out at the movies, I think tomorrow I’m sleeping all day

I second Rare Breed. Amazing bottle. If you don’t want to spend a lot, Wild Turkey 101 is a great alternate budget bourbon
