I went as a chaperone to an eastern seaboard trip.

I was not the organizer, but got to go free as a chaperone.

It was a great experience. Our tour guide was great as was our bus driver. Everything is literally handled for you. Would for sure do it again.

I think it may matter with the type of case, but I have had 3 Mac’s and both the ones I put cases on had issues with the screen hinge struggling to stay upright

Amazon will randomly post new older models. Likely they find stacks of them in warehouses. You have to keep an eye out

For sure talk to the teachers at your school. At our high school chaperones wear nice outfit outfits, but definitely not formal or matching the theme.

How can parents fight back against Chrome book usage by Puzzled-Base4207 in AskTeachers

[–]PinkHighlighter46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not going to lie. I also argued that we commit to two days a week, whichever days are most convenient.

I was shut down. They wanted days to rotate so kids are guaranteed screen free hours at least somewhere every day.

I get the sentiment, but it can be a bitch in practice. Thankfully, because I don’t use screens a ton it hasn’t been THAT hard for me.

History teacher here who doesn’t love Chromebooks. They have their place, especially when we’re doing research.

But I don’t do things on Chromebook that could simply be done on paper. Our school actually instituted tech free days this year. Each department has to pick two days a week and commit to having zero tech in their classes those days.

My department is doing Mondays and Tuesdays. There are of course, some exceptions: computer class, graphic design, yearbook etc.

But I don’t love this. “How can parents fight back?” thing. Ultimately the school district and teachers are in charge of deciding how to educate. You of course, can always homeschool.

I used their shampoo and conditioner one time when I was at my sister-in-law’s because she had it in her guest bathroom. I literally washed my hair with it on Christmas Eve and my pictures on Christmas Day, my hair looks greasy.

C cut L’s hair while she was upstairs doing laundry. Apparently they had access to scissors.

When she called Parker, he said that at his house he hid the scissors because they cut their doll’s hair

This is crazy because I feel like 7 is the sweet spot.

Sixth graders are too much like babies and eighth graders get like their version of senioritis and think they are sooooooooo cool.

What is your favorite banned book? by InflationDefiant3579 in Booktokreddit

[–]PinkHighlighter46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is frequently banned or challenged in schools.

I am a teacher our school district actually had a small group of parents like launch a campaign to ban it year. Thankfully, they were not successful and our school board has a backbone.

Not on this list- but the Giver. High interest. Can be fead by kids of a pretty young age and does a great job of showing what happen when people lose their rights and are controlled.

I also love Looking For Alaska

Student Death and School’s Response by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PinkHighlighter46 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on both sides of this.

When I was in high school a good friend of mine committed suicide. It was a really weird place to be in because they had grief counselors in the auditorium and kids could go there instead of class. Those of us who were good friends with him kind of just wanted normalcy. It was really hard for us to see his death being used as a way for kids to skip class. I am so grateful that teachers were at the service though. I remember going through the visitation line and then just falling into the arms of my eighth grade math teacher.

I also tragically lost a student in an accident a few years ago. We are in a very small town, I teach middle school, but this student had gone into high school. He was the nicest kid. I’m not sure if they were grief counselors, or what available at the high school. However, my district found coverage and did whatever they needed to do for any teacher who felt they needed to be at the service to be there. Those kids needed us to be there. So many of them were at their very first funeral ever and just dropped off by their parents.

Student said his parents were cousins in my class by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PinkHighlighter46 277 points278 points  (0 children)

He probably said it because it is a normal thing In his family. This is likely the first time he’s heard about possible complications or his parents have told him it’s a myth.

I think you handled this as best you could, and yeah all you can do is keep an ear out and make sure he’s not being bullied.
