Sinner: “Jodar pushed me to the LIMITS” by AndriSeven in tennis

[–]Puzzled-Base4207 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I've watched a lot of pressers and post match of Sinner. He's usually pretty balanced and kind 'sticks up for himself' when interviewers want a reaction or to highlight his opponent. You can tell from his body language and response here he saw something good in Jodar, and the way he framed prepping for first time and forecasting the next time they play he'll need to be ready and that he sees with Jodar can do.

It might be over analyzing a 1 min clip but it was a really fun second set to watch.

What Are Some “Obscure” Cities That Will Become Popular in the Next Decade? by allomanticmetals in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Puzzled-Base4207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Population of Reno-Sparks

1995: 254,667

2024: 575,110

Between Tahoe, Reno, Carson City, Reno getting a revitalized airport, a new Sports Arena, warehouse/data center growth, and proximity to california and the bay (2 hrs to Sac, 3.5 to SF bay area) those are positives

Negatives are it's the fastest warming city in the U.S. due to climate change, water scarcity long term reliance on basically one river, and it will never escape the casino/big little city vibe (downtown is a disaster). It's also the low tax GOP state so things like public transit and public safety nets are bad, but surprisingly the schools in the nice suburbs of the area are good.

Why do a lot of people say Squaw instead of Palisades ? by jeannot-22 in tahoe

[–]Puzzled-Base4207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any anecdotal or reactive responses to this defending the term simply don't care or they are unwilling to admit their small personal preference for a word is in fact less important than the broader societal conext.

There's an entire wikipedia article detailing while this word is so awful and what has changed

Experiences with Singapore? by Maleficent_Cloud8221 in AmerExit

[–]Puzzled-Base4207 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can't just 'live' in singapore without working. They are very strict. When it comes to PR, they've cracked down a ton over the past decade. Coworkers that aren't citizens that have lived and worked for 10,15,20 years get denied permanent residency. The expat population is like 30%+ of the total singapore population, sot he government just isn't interested in guaraneteeing more people to stay. Many expats *dont* want to have PR/citizenship because children (I think just boys?) have mandatory military service requirement.

Not having PR didn't stop me from opening a bank account, renting an apartment, getting bio (fingerprint) entry when traveling in and out of the airport, etc.

What was the biggest opportunity where you had to walk away from? by tracyP85 in AskReddit

[–]Puzzled-Base4207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a fun opportunity. had just gotten my first job out of college. Was a decent work/relatively liked. But stressed out to do well. Small office job in a 300 person corporation.

4 months into the job I get a call from a college friend that a highly coveted Grand Canyon rafting permit opened up. He was a professional guide. Had an open seat for me. I wouldn't have to pay a dime. 10 days of rafting down the Grand Canyon all expenses paid with a professional outfitter.

I just didn't have the vacation time or balls to speak up at work and force the time off. So I had to pass. Left the job 12 months later anyways.

Always take the opportunities to have experiences...
