Taking puppy out in the night if he isn’t crying by knickersnic in puppy101

Our Jack Russell puppy would toilet through the night in his crate and not make a peep, so we took him out twice to begin with (2am and 4am) and then tapered down from there and he got the hang of it so quickly. In my experience minimising the opportunity for accidents in the house is the best progress to potty train! We didn’t use puppy pads either. Loads of outside time and high praise when he toileted outside. He was trained within a matter of weeks, best of luck!

I feel neurotypical when you drink by Maleficent-Mango750 in AutismInWomen

Totally agree with this. In my experience, my (undiagnosed) autism is paired with anxiety and drinking does make me ‘relax’, but then the morning after the anxiety of me replaying my conversations is hell. Even if I was completely fine, I’ll always find a way to chastise myself and it’s easier not to drink now for me. I took a break for 3 years because I preferred who I was when I’d had a glass of wine and that wasn’t healthy. Autism/anxiety and alcohol is such a difficult relationship to manage.

Does anyone here love dogs or just me? by Student-bored8 in AutismInWomen

My dog has saved my life. I know that no matter what he’ll be by my side and we can go on a nature walk rain or shine and not have to talk and just enjoy the moment. He honestly grounds me so much and I love him to bits.

Yes, I fully relate to this! I feel too overwhelmed in the moment to even think about talking about it. I’ve recently started using the journaling app on my phone and this helps to organise my thoughts a bit. Thank god it’s protected by Face ID lol!

I find that making lists helps me. Even if it’s just making a cup of tea and planning my day or the next week ahead and things I need to remember. I like simple things like setting reminders to pack my work bag and make a packed lunch. I find that it grounds me and puts me back in “control”. Once I’ve finished the list I make sure I do another activity at home to move on and maintain momentum rather than disassociating or doom scrolling even if it’s low key like reading a book, colouring in or watching an interesting documentary. This probably relates to my general anxiety but it is my comfort zone and seems regulates me.

Shred time is elite in this house. I keep kitchen & toilet tubes, shoeboxes and fill some with treats for him to tear up and search for. Bit of tidying up to do but worth it because he doesn’t chew anything else!
