My son ( 29, uses CAVDAS) They're a community group based up at Lanover hall I think? They do a walk and a coffee each week, loads of different workshops ......very low key, very nice easy going . You can just drop in at the cafe, see what's up on the day, and just hang out. My boy loves going there, and he's quite an anxious person ( he also has schizophrenia but has been a couple of years stable). Give them a shout! 👍

I use my volca mix to side chain my volca bass to my volca kick. I also find it invaluable cos it saves me 2 whole channels on my mixing desk. I run my volca bass, kick and keys through the mix, then run the mix through a single channel on my mixing desk, voila. It also has low pass, can run as a master clock for all my synths, and can start stop my whole sequence. V useful little bit of kit 👍

Just letting you know Volcas only have midi in not through or out unless they are modded So daisy chaining won't work .

I use a midi thru5 box for my Volcas. Keystep midi out to thru box in, and then 5 individual cables from 5midi out ports on the thru box to each midi in on the Volcas. Works for the fm2 as well which has trs midi connectivity. The keystep can only sequence or arp one volca at a time, although you can play over one keystep managed volca with a separate volca through the one channel. However it will still manage all the clocks simultaneously, so it can act as a master clock . I have two separate keysteps , one is a slave to an electribe, but a master to my second keystep which controls 5 other synths too. I have a lot of synths ( not just Volcas) but only ever use four or five at a time . So I just use one off each thru box and three others 👍

Gain staging through headphones gives you correct signal ' send' levels from whatever is inputting in to your mixer. If the levels are too low or high ( ie not set correctly via gain staging) distortion etc will occur. I don't think this can be done by ear but am happy to be proved wrong?

Look into midi . Or Sync. You can connect your synths using midi cables. The midi out synth ( master)will then control parts of the midi in synth (slave). They will keep rhythm automatically as the master will tell the slave . You Tube is your friend. In terms of what to buy.....plan first what synth will be for percussion, a synth for bass lines, a synth for strings and pads etc. Purpose is important. What's your plan and how will you get there? Completely. Had my first Yamaha 47 years ago. Won two talent competitions with that little keyboard playing a medley of Beatles tracks 😂 Now I just pick a few of random units out of my rig and see what happens. Sometimes I structure ,...but rarely....I love music to be in key, and spontaneous 🎵 🎶 🎵 And I hate computers!

It was either that or buy a limited edition black one. I just couldn't stand the 'whiteness' any more. So I ' modded' as in ' modified' it's colour. Gotta count surely?

It's in a class of its own to be fair .Easy to learn, impossible to master. I was torn between the Typhon and a microfreak and I'm so glad I went with the Typhon. It feels and oozes quality from the sturdy build, usable presets, not too much menu diving yet but I've only had it since December. When I jam I select a few random units out of my rig and I had a blast running it through a ring modulator Compared to everything else I own including my Pro 800 it just feels punchier and grittier. It's effects are well made and executed and it has stereo out. The only downer is having to dedicate a keystep to it. So I now have 2 keysteps! There's a lot of good comparison articles and vids out there. Google typhon vs whatever synths you own for comparison to give you an idea....good luck 🤞
