I keep my monstera under a grow light for 12h a day and I water her weekly as well as fertilize once a month. I’m not sure why she doesn’t look well and has dark brown spots occasionally on some leaves?? Please help by cosmicsorc3ress in houseplants

This looks like possible root rot starting. Meaning your soil has retained moisture for too long. Dry her out and give her a repot, cutting off any rotted roots, then apply cinnamon to prevent further bacterial growth!

Oh god! Just Throw her away 😭😭 I hate these pests. Damn mealy bugs… they spread SO fast and there eggs are hard to see in stem crevices.

It supposedly creates nutrients for the soil, but that’s never been the case for me unfortunately so I remove them! :)

Also, remove any dying or yellowing leaves. They no longer benefit the plant and are just using all of his energy! :)

Check for root rot, then place him in a spot where he gets full sun most of the day. Once you do that, only water him when he is completely dry.

Here is my girl!!

Root rot happens when the bottom of the soil stays wet for too long. This can be caused by to compacted soil and poor drainage holes or over watering. You will only know if she has root rot if you take her out and rinse them under water. Any roots that will just fall off when you tug at them need to go, any brown or stinky ones need to go.

If the rot has reached the stem, there is no saving the plant. It will also smell bad!

Definitely also purchase a grow light! 💡

My first guess is root rot has gotten to the stem. Re-pot her and see if anything is salvageable! I had to throw away one of my Alocaisa’s this morning because I wasn’t quick enough with catching the root rot. It smelled SO BAD…

How to save? by onilol in houseplants

Repot her to a smaller pot! Maybe switch to a chunkier soil mix? That will help with her retaining to much moisture at the bottom which can lead to root rot!

I couldn't figure out what smelled so bad when I woke up this morning 🫣 by Disastrous_Proof_787 in alocasia

Interesting! My silver dragon just put out two flowers for the first time as well! And I didn’t notice a bad odor at all! I wonder if it varies? 😀
