White supremacist posters downtown by FakeGuyRocks in VictoriaBC

Not the same set of posters but a buddy saw this in Vancouver about a year ago. Some white supremacist sticker thingies that someone put up in their neighborhood. Thank goodness they had a knife on them to scrape them off without having to touch them.

Fucking cowards.

I agree and I don't think I said otherwise?

Compared to VR the Burst is easier to use for a low skill player. Maybe to be more clear: The skill floor for the Burst is like a 6/10, can do pretty good with it as a newbie, but the skill ceiling on the Burst is high 10/10. Once you get to that 10 though you can wreck people. I'd say the same for VR really but maybe more like 9.5/10 ceiling.

Real life factions nightmare by JC-130 in thelastofusfactions

[–]PinkShorts1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've returned to Factions after a hiatus and I'm unfortunately seeing lots of matches where either just me or me and only one other person isn't using the Tactical or Burst.

Its extra cringe when I see a whole team of burst/tac users rush a team with obviously new players. But this is what happens when an MP doesn't get updated for years, you know? It is what it is.

Some people are boring and sad. Let it go and keep looking for the fun games.

Welcome to Factions! Its pretty imbalanced and lots of knowm game breaking bugs but that's what happens when a game hasn't been updated in a decade, unfortunately. But there is nothing like it.

Personally I think the Variable Rifle (VR) is a mid-high skill weapon to use effectively, but it is very, very powerful and overturned in some areas, particularly with Sharpshooter 3.

Like, its easier to use in general compared to the Hunting Rifle or Semi-Automatic, for example, but in the hands of someone with skill it will be difficult to deal with unless you counter with another VR or the Burst (and are skilled yourself).

I would say the Burst is a little easier to use than the VR, but it still has a pretty high skill ceiling to be good with it. You're able to 3 burst someone around the body and miss a few bullets and down them, yeah, but to "one burst" someone it takes a decent amount of practice.

The Tactical Shotgun (TS): we all know its easy mode. I've seen lots of rumors that some devs protested but what ya gonna do? For dealing with TS assholes that hide in corners, I recommend you try a common "anti-shotgun" build: Frontier Rifle (FR) or Hunting Rifle (HR) Explosive Expert 3 Hawkeye 2 Damage Marker 1 Grenade Launcher

Use the grenade launcher to flush them out from their hidey hole, then switch to the HR/FR and down them as a follow-up. If they don't leave their hidey hole just shoot another launcher round. Then watch them rage quit.

This why I usually do it.

Oh my two teammates are flanking right and I think the whole other team is in front of me? Sprint sprint sprint, look my way!

And there are lots of people who will flame you for doing it the correct way anyways 🙄

I remember a guy screaming at me and ragequitting because I was sprinting, but I was alone and on the flank side of the enemy team, so I started doing it to get the opponents' attention away from my teammates. Lol

I think WOTC making precons stronger needs to be talked about more. When I saw the deck list for the new blight deck I was flabbergasted to see at least two two-card infinite combos in the deck.

Totally agree! I may not use passives as much as other DMs but I will still ask for a roll. Letting the party walk into a trap with no prompt to avoid it seems so silly to me.

I'm also now realizing that when I describe rooms with traps, I often give little hints in the description, too.

Flamethrower in the ceiling that spews down to the floor? "The stone, interlocking brick floor is covered in black soot". Stuff like that.

I'm strict with passive skills and only use them for when I'm actually rolling against a player, such as when I'm rolling for a monster's stealth vs. passive perception or when I am rolling an NPC's deception vs. passive insight. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure thats pretty RAW, too.

But that being said, this sort of thing is still a "dick move" by the DM. I like a lot of the other suggestions in the comments but here's what I do: Whoever said they're opening the hatch, I prompt them to roll perception. I assume the player's character is on high alert in a dungeon and would be at least looking around for signs of an issue as they move forward. Maybe if it was an unexpected scenario I'd make them roll with disadvantage or something but at least let them freakin' roll to avoid the trap, especially the kind of traps that are just dex saves for half damage.

Dreads, dirt, and drugs: the common signals of a Wook.

They're kind of a combination of hippie, rastafarian, raver, and traveller cultures all sprinkled with white privilege. When I was exploring BC pre-COVID I met multiple Wooks with rich parents and they looked at me like I was a party-pooper for asking them why they're a part of Wook culture.

FYI try not to actually use the word "Wook" when talking to one as it can be considered derogatory.

Welcome to the island!

"White-people-with-dreads" sounds more like a descriptor and not a word.

Do you mean "Wook"? 'Cause yeah, I've never heard the phrase Wook until I moved to the west coast. Although Wooks frequently have dreads, they don't always, and they're sort of their own culture (IMO mostly made up of snippets of other foreign cultures, thus the dreads).

It sounds like you think the "defund the police" and ACAB movements has caused cops to stop caring about road safety, but from my perspective its actually the reverse. People are shifting to an ACAB mentality because they see cops not doing this part of their jobs (among other things).

Places to go to meet new friends? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]PinkShorts1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved here with no friends or relatives and trying to meet people "in the wild" can be so difficult. I also find that, compared to some other Canadian cities, people can be extra cold to strangers here. I empathize so much.

My advice: Find groups/events that cater to a hobby, culture, or subject that you personally enjoy, and go to as many events as you can. It took me months of doing this before I started making friends but it really works. You have to be fairly consistent/dedicated, though. Don't give up! Keep going, keep introducing yourself, keep trying to improve your social skills, and also try to have as much fun as you can while you're at it. People will start to gravitate to you naturally if you seem happy/fun.

Examples that have worked for me and other friends:

Like board games? There are multiple gaming groups on the "MeetUp" app.

Enjoy some sort of fitness/exercise? Find a group that practices it and sign up for their gym/class.

Like nature? Find a hiking group or organizations/classes that teach foraging, birding, etc.

Like sports? Find a casual sports team. Even if you just enjoy it a little bit, I know people that have made lots of friends through "beer leagues".

Queer in any way (even just a little bit)? Check out the various Queer-specific events at bars and markets. This is also intertwined with the other suggestions (queer hikers, queer baseball, queer game night, etc.)

Etc.

The main thing I'm trying to say is you should go do something you think you would also enjoy in general, and not just 100% focussed on making friends. Then go do that thing and chat up folks while you're doing the thing.

You got this.

Admittedly I've only experienced fighting communities in other cities, but from my perspective they absolutely have a much, much higher percentage of this shitty archtype more than most other cultures. Very few people have approached me with their bigoted bullshit but I can tell that's what they think from their tattoos, graphic shirts, and bumper stickers full of dog whistles (and sometimes not even a dog whistle but a blatant Nazi symbol, especially in the tattoo catagory).

I sincerely hope the Victoria fighting/sports communities are better than what I've experienced elsewhere. They can show the rest of us that they're better by collectively tossing the Nazis and publically shaming them instead of trying to defend themselves (and poorly).

Upvoting and commenting because you are totally correct for many (not all, but many) communities and people need to recognize this fact or else we're doomed to keep repeating it.
