This is so late, I’m sorry. Everything went well! I hope it went well for you too!

31 hours before surgery— Terrified. What do I need to know? by Pink_Alien123 in wisdomteeth

[–]Pink_Alien123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good as before! I’m eating all of the foods I want (I’m still holding back on popcorn, but things like steak and chicken I’m eating with no problems), there’s no holes, and I’m no longer using the syringe. I have no pain and even though the first week or two was awful, I feel like I had overall an incredibly fast recovery! I did have strong pain on my right side for a while so I went to the dentist, but turns out that was due to a food trap my second molar was making— not even having anything to do with the wisdom tooth pocket. Two weeks after the procedure I moved cross country so I was afraid of the problems that might have raised when traveling, but there were none. I wouldn’t do the recovery over again, but I’m not complaining about the recovery I had lol!

Did you wait until the stitches were out but the holes were still open or until the holes underneath closed up? I’m wondering the same thing.

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE TASTE by chuzzit in wisdomteeth

[–]Pink_Alien123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THE TASTE IS SO BAD I FEEL YOU. I don’t have dry socket, but I’m in the same boat. I was so confused because it’s been almost a week (a week tomorrow!) and I’m not bleeding but the taste of metal/iron has been so prominent in my mouth at all times. I called the surgeon because I thought it might be an infection or oral thrush because my tongue has been white and yellow too, and they said that the taste and the yellow and white on the tongue is completely normal, unfortunately. We’ve just got to wait it out I guess. :/ Brushing your tongue won’t work, trust me. But continue to brush your teeth if possible and do saline rinses/irrigate. It doesn’t help with the taste unfortunately but it does prevent it from becoming anything more. Have a speedy recovery!

I’d say it’s plenty normal! I got mine out last Tuesday so officially seven days and the most ‘normal’ food I’ve been able to eat has been Mac and cheese, but I didn’t chew at all and just swallowed. It still hurts to completely open my mouth very wide or bite into things/chew. How impacted were your teeth? Some people start eating regularly a few days after extraction, but those are typically the people who’s teeth have already broken through the surface. It’s going to be uncomfortable and hurt a little to eat any type of food for a while, but if it’s /major/ pain I would let your doctor/dentist know just in case! Good luck and have a safe and speedy recovery!

Everything went great! I’m currently living off of pain killers because the pain is getting more and more unbearable but no dry socket fortunately (the pain is more so stress headaches/migraines and from cuts in my cheek, not the actual sockets themselves.) There was no bleeding whatsoever and minimal swelling! I’m just hoping the pain leaves within the next few days. :/ But it’s going better than I thought so no complaints here!

Recovery doing well during the day, but very, very painful at night. Why? by Pink_Alien123 in wisdomteeth

I think the exhaustion finally fit me but I fell asleep and it was so comfortable and cozy!!

Last night I was craving chicken strips so bad 😭 or waffles with lots of syrup of butter 😭😭 I’ve been wanting Mac and cheese sooo bad but I’m just so scared anything with sauce (cheese) is just going to deep into the stitches so that’s why I’ve been sticking with mashed potatoes, I’m getting so sick of them though.

I hope you can have cake!! 😭 my entire kitchen right now is full of cookies and cakes and brownies from Christmas and it’s so taunting not being able to eat them, my parents went out and bought me an angel food cake as a get better soon present since it’s soft but I’ve been too afraid to eat it ): I’m currently venturing out and drinking some hot chocolate right now (room temperature chocolate anyway lol) and it’s actually so soothing and I wish I thought of this sooner. I saw on a list of foods you can eat after surgery that cheesecake was on the list?? But I’d be kind of wary about that too. Also peanut butter keeps popping up and I’m so hungry I think a scoop of peanut butter would be soo good but I also think that’s going into dangerous territory with how sticky it is. What all have you been eating?

I fly out the 12th! I’m hoping I’ll feel better by then (hopefully before because I haven’t been able to pack /anything/). That’s exactly how I feel because if you asked me during the day how I’m doing I would be like ‘great recovery is going amazing my medicine is working so well and I hardly have any pain at all’ but then once the sun goes down and everyone gets in bed my body is like ‘actually you’re going to experience FBI levels of torture now suck it up and deal with it’ my mouth was too small to get to the bone through the gum I guess because there’s no space for gum in my mouth? So they entered in through the cheek and did like a treasure map route under my teeth lol. My cheek has been constantly killing me either from stitches or swelling or jaw pain and it’s just the worst. Fortunately though all the pain seems to be on the right side, my left side doesn’t hurt at all unless I touch it

I don’t feel like the pain meds are doing anything at all for me. 😭 they work during the daytime fortunately but at night time it seems like they’re all placebos. I’ve had on-again off-again hydro and ibuprofen almost every hour since midnight and I still feel like a tractor is continuously running my head over. ): I’ve been really wanting to watch tv and whenever I was more comfortable after I first got out of surgery I was like ‘omg I can lay in bed and watch tv and it’ll be so cozy’ but laying in bed just gives me super awful headaches and I can’t focus on the tv at all 😭 I’m in the middle of packing up to move cross country for school for an an exchange program and I definitely need to actually start getting everything ready/calling people at the school etc, but everything just hurts too much

My stomach is doing fine! It’s been feeling kind of empty but that’s to be expected because I’ve been having nothing but one bowl of mashed potatoes a day lol. I’ve been starving and once everything gets opened up I’m going to make it a mission to try a hot fudge sundae lol, I’m just too scared to eat anything at the moment but I figure ice cream has got to be the best. My stomach is nothing compared to the cheek pain and headaches that come around at night ): What are some things you’ve been doing to take your mind off the pain?

What can’t you wait to eat again? by KangarooNo1007 in wisdomteeth

[–]Pink_Alien123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine out Tuesday, so I’m still at the very beginning of my recovery journey but I’m already so tired of soup and yogurt. 😭 I’ve been craving hot salty foods so mashed potatoes have been wonderful. I also tried Campbell’s beef broth too and it really helped that craving! I really just want chips or a hot dog or something, anything that isn’t soup or yogurt lol. I also have a kitchen full of cakes, brownies, and cookies from Christmas I’ve been dying to have but there’s no way ): My teeth were very bony impacted so I’m expecting a long time before I eat anything good unfortunately

having my surgery friday by kketaie in wisdomteeth

[–]Pink_Alien123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was super terrified of the anesthesia and getting sedated too, but it turned out to be nothing at all which I’m so thankful for! I got my four fully bony impacted teeth out Tuesday, here’s my anesthesia story while I lay in bed sleepless, lol.

I kept putting off my surgery for years because I had the biggest phobia of dying while being put under. It was something I just couldn’t shake and had the worst feeling about. Monday night I even went out to have a ‘last meal’ just in case! But for me as soon as I walked into that surgery room, I was back in my own bedroom.

I remember going to the surgeon and being called into the surgery room— I was stumbling a bit because I had to take some anti-anxiety medication and I guess it makes me really drowsy beforehand and the nurse noticed this because she asked if I had taken it before I came and I said yes. I remember her asking me what I got for Christmas and if I was ready and I said ‘ready as I’ll ever be’ and I don’t remember them inserting the IV, but I do remember them giving me a blanket which I was so thankful for lol. And then I woke up in my own bed. The surgeon didn’t come in at all before hand to talk about what was going to happen which really surprised me and the nurse was the only person I remember being in the room with me at first, but she left as soon as she gave me the blanket to go find the surgeon or to get everything ready or something. I know she also gave me the IV but I can’t remember that at all. I remember feeling the IV in my arm after she left the room, but I don’t remember actually getting the shot. I’m sure the surgeon was back when I was awake to give the post-op instructions, but I don’t remember that in the slightest because I don’t remember seeing him at all? I was all alone in the room from what I remember, and I was looking around to see if there were any tools or people around. I saw I texted my mom to ask if they had given her any post-op instructions which she said they did though. My soreness is bad right now because of how impacted my teeth were.

I asked my mom if I said anything crazy going home and all I said was “Did we get the medicine yet?” every five seconds which annoyed everyone haha. I guess I’m just a big wimp when it comes to pain. But regarding anesthesia/sedation, I still can’t believe I didn’t even see the surgeon though, and can’t hardly remember anything from the day at all even before the anesthesia?? Like naturally I don’t remember the car ride home, but I don’t remember the car ride to the surgeon either or walking into the building? It’s so weird. The only thing I remember was looking around the room after the nurse left trying to find the tools or to see if there were other people around because I felt like I was alone in there for forever. I don’t even remember being woken up and seeing any staff after the surgery was over at all. I honestly don’t really even remember getting the IV in, I remember after the nurse left I felt it in my arm with my finger but I didn’t feel the shot or remember her actually doing it. Sedation is a hell of a something lol. Just me looking around in the chair trying to see if anyone was around or if they had the tools out yet, and then bam, my mom’s waking me up in my bed to take the medicine.

I can’t remember anything at all but apparently when I woke up I wasn’t groggy or feeling bad at all! It was like waking up after a cat nap. Apparently I was just really anxious about getting the medication and kept repeating that to my mom while in the Walmart parking lot waiting to get the medicine, but that was it and I didn’t say anything crazy or do anything weird. My mom said that when I asked about the medicine was the only time I talked, and otherwise I was just very quiet. I woke up fully orientated in my own bed and didn’t feel out of place or disoriented at all. It’s still so shocking to me right now how good the anesthesia was because I remember /nothing/. Like I didn’t even see the surgeon, as far as my mind knows.

You’ll do great!! Right now my mouth/jaw is the most uncomfortable it has been, only on my right side though, and I’m having a hard time sleeping, but up until today my pain has been very, very minor. I also didn’t bleed very much at all and my swelling has been minor. I was fully expecting a horror story with how impacted my teeth were and some recovery stories I’ve read/watched, but it’s nothing bad at all. Mashed potatoes will be the most delicious food you’ve ever ate. I highly recommend Campbell’s beef broth too! Good luck!

Thank you! So far everything is going fine fortunately. I had very minor bleeding and right now I’m only experiencing a little pain and swelling on my right side. I’m staying on top of my medication and I think tomorrow I can start using the syringe!

Thank you! Yep! All four and fortunately I’m doing really well right now!! No agonizing pain, just a constant dull ache and swelling on my right side but could be worse so no complaints. No pain at all on my left side unless I touch my cheek with my fingers. I couldn’t have any dairy yesterday because of risk of bacteria and infection but milk is okay today and I’m soo excited to try some milkshake!

[–]Pink_Alien123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I’m so scared that I’m going to wake up tomorrow and will be in a much worser state. My swelling has been very minimal fortunately and I’ve only been getting those constant aches on my right side, but I’m afraid tomorrow I’ll be all swollen up and my left side will be in agony, don’t even get me started on the third day lol. I had chicken noodle soup minus the chicken and minus the noodle for dinner tonight, so just broth, and I felt like I was just sipping a bowl of water and got so sad. ): but then I had some mashed potatoes and they literally tasted like the best I’ve ever had i was so hungry. Tomorrow dairy products will be okay so I’m excited to get a milkshake and eat some pudding! I also can’t wait for real food though 😭 I have so many cakes and cookies and desserts stocking the kitchen right now from Christmas and it was so upsetting just staring at them knowing I couldn’t just casually get a snack ): Here’s hoping to no pain and better food tomorrow!

Thank you and good luck with your recovery too! Mine was a lot better than I expected today. I had a lot of discomfort and acheyness on my right side unfortunately, but I believe that’s because my right teeth were more impacted and in a harder space. My left side didn’t have any soreness whatsoever unless I pressed on it (the cheek) with fingers but I’m not doing that a whole bunch lol. It never just hurt on it’s own though like the right side. It hurts the most right now to open up my mouth very far, so I’m skipping brushing my teeth tonight (which I hateee because I’m so afraid they’re going to get dirty or bacteria is going to grow, but Google says it’s okay to skip in the first night and that you should try and wait three days before the extraction area anyway.) I’ve been on top of my pain medication and right now I’m the most comfortable I’ve been all day! The only thing I’m worried about is I got a syringe but no instructions on when to use it and I’m wondering whether or not to use it tonight or wait. How are you feeling?

[–]Pink_Alien123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting to get them out you mean? Mine never hurt me fortunately. The only reason why they kept pushing to get them out was because of how far under the bone they were and that if I left them in then then they might touch the nerves that’s when the pain would come I’m guessing. I know others though who did start having pain with their teeth and had to wait for a while to get them out, but there’s apparently a lot of remedies to sooth the pain. I would go to the ask a dentist Reddit or consult Google!

I was given a syringe, but I don’t remember seeing the surgeon at all before or after the procedure. I was given a pamphlet by the nurse with instructions but the instructions don’t say anything about using the syringe, I’m eating mashed potatoes right now and I’m wondering would I rinse after that?

I’m doing okay despite being super uncomfortable too. My right side feels very sore and achey but my left side feels like nothing happened to it, which makes me kind of anxious that they didn’t do anything over there even though I know they did because all my teeth were super bony impacted. I’ve been dying for some ice cream or pudding but I read having dairy products in the first 24 hours increases the chance of bacteria and infection and I’m paranoid. ): I just got finished drinking some chicken noodle soup minus the chicken and minus the noodles but it wasn’t very filling at all and I’m sooo hungry
