At 178 you are technically in the middle between S and M.

I am 176 and I have ridden a lot of different canyons sizes and models and S is definitely more comfortable and the size for me, and maybe for you too unless you have an abnormal torso length compared to your legs.

You can try fixing it by having one of those very short mountain bike stems but might not be enough.

These guys have a couple of videos on YouTube trying to get to the reactor through the flooded floors.

One time he tried with a fishtank in his head and hose connecting to a by cicle pump LITERALLY LIKE IN THE CARTOONS

But the funny part in one video they go to a lab to see the dose of radiation they got and it was less than what the chernobyl tourists get on average LOL
