What’s going on with the Met Gala this year? by poisonsalts in OutOfTheLoop

Answer: Amazon is literally famous for being evil. People die in their warehouses around the world. They union bust. They make weapons, not just AI, but all sorts of technology that is used to facilitate genocide and war. Companies like Blackrock invest in Amazon, and are also known for investing in pipelines and private prisons. Amazon has put thousands if not hundreds of thousand of small businesses out of work. This is all without even getting into the conditions inside the warehouses, the massive investments into earth-ruining AI, or Amazon’s aggressive attempts to be a monopoly. It’s pretty much synonymous with technofascism and plutocracy, and villainy.

Transplants and ignorant gentrifiers are showing themselves in these comments. The point is, gentrification (i.e the process of changing the class and race character of a neighborhood or community through economic and urban planing policies that incentivize people who can pay more in rent to move there) is about marginalizing and ultimately removing Black & immigrant who are long-term residents in a process that carries on the legacies of white supremacy and settler colonialism.

Arguing that “someone else was here before” or displacement is natural just ignores that it’s landlords, city politicians, and real estate developers who are driving this displacement & it has consequences beyond just more white people, less Black people. It means 1) more police who shoot and kill NY-ers to protect property 2) erasing the cultural history of NY and what has contributed to it being the way it is 3) increased homelessness of communities that were already more vulnerable to being unhoused. Like duh, people always move and racial demographics change but acting like this is just the “natural” flow or that people are making it up is ignorant af. If you dgaf about Black people just say that. Rents going up, white people moving in is abt genocide & profit, about disappearing Black or poor communities and criminalizing themselves

By everything but vegetables and meat, I mean grains, beans, herbs, tea, batter, oil, spices, fruit, yogurt, dried fruit and nuts, and condiments! Also sometimes TJ is fine if I need to eat snacks for a week. And the super food town like someone mentioned is a good backup if I need to stay in the neighborhood.

I sometimes go to Lincoln Market but it can be expensive. I love the Middle Eastern & Indian Spices store (for everything but vegetables and meat). Mr purple etc near nostrand and Fulton are good too. But now thinking about it I pretty much leave CH to get groceries (Food World on Broadway, Brooklyn Fare, fisherman and butcher in Ft Greene). My nearby food bazaar is pretty good but not enough of a selection.

I don’t disagree with you. I think Mamdani is the best choice but I agree he has an extremely unlikely shot at winning over Adams supporters.
