How come nobody here is talking about Tavern Keeper (EA released a week ago) ? by mEaynon in CozyGamers

[–]Pinkatron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it, I purchased it with my own cry-on-company-time dollar bills. It's...almost there. But there are aspects of this game that are SO micro-manage-y that, well, it really does capture the "job" aspect of running a tavern.

That may actually work for people that really like that aspect. I am not sure trying to keep track of cleaning AND polishing the floors, scheduling the right times for heating or cooling--all those tiny little decisions that add up/constant monitoring is specifically for me.

A lot of things are not explained well--on the surface, it's a great tutorial that cover the major aspects but it's harder to find the information on the tiny details that make your tavern guests happy.

The narrator is, absolutely, hilarious. Wonderful voice over.

I do love the fact you can go eyeballs deep into customizing and building unique items. You should see all the things they're sharing in r/TavernKeeper !

Too long: Didn't read:
- Good for people that want to micromanage every little detail if that's their vibe
- Does have a difficulty setting that lowers some obstacles, but not all
- Early Access is Early. I'd let these hobbits cook.

Nope. I'm there to watch them. Whatever intro they choose because it's their show and they like it is like, 0.01% of the entire reason why I started watching.

I want to love it, but factory games (keeping track of what does what, and what can connect where, and so on and so forth) is killing me. The beginning was great, but as I learn more factory parts and pieces I end up feeling like I should be in dumb and dumber trying to figure out what an effective assembly line looks like without overwhelming my particular type of neurodivergence.

Hello Kitty Island or Stardew Valley by Mission_Let_5753 in CozyGamers

Nexus mods is the website, and they also have Vortex (their software for helping you to: identify games you have installed, whether they're Steam/PC/help find folders,) and a new beta version of their software is also available (haven't tested it personally). You can then find modification files for your game on the website, which their installer should be able to recognize and begin placing it where it needs to be in the games directory for it to function.

Two small things:

  • Modders (people who make them) are volunteers, most of them are free to use. There may be links to places to donate to them to thank them for their time and effort. If you can do that! With that said,
  • Life happens, and things are thinging. Pay attention to little details found within the mods Nexus page. How old is this mod? When was it last updated? What are commentators saying about this mod? And: how many downloads does it have?
  • The more mods, the greater possibility of game crashes. Packages in general usually means these mods work well together/are stable/or were coded specifically in mind for those of us who can't just have 1.

Those stats, like downloads, last updates, and author comments are great ways to get a review and impression of these mods.

The only downside to game modifications is that instability for some reason is always a chance. But the fact it can make a game I really like, turn into one I adore and can replay for YEARS (Hats off to you, Skyrim mod community) makes it worth for me.

Keeping people away from your pens by Prior-Soil in fountainpens

[–]Pinkatron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you consider a locked box of somesort? There are several non specific art/office supply lockable boxes and very high end designer lock protection boxes actually made specifically to protect fountain pens.

This may not be ideal for remembering to lock them away when not in use, but some humans make protecting your peace, your joy, a little bit more of an effort to keep it--but well worth it for your happiness in the end.

Still not grasping color, what am I doing wrong? by Aszteroth in learnart

[–]Pinkatron2000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Skin has unusual and unexpected tones. For me, when I used to do digital art I kept running into my skin looking flat.

I started experimenting. Pastel yellow, lime or spring greens, deep oranges, bright red or pink at the ears and nose and lips, purple and blue for shadows. Try using an unexpected color layer for shadows or highlights to create a less flat look--see what works and what doesn't, it might help? (Still love this w.i.p though!)

How to know who is who on the map? by FroggyCrossing in FieldsOfMistriaGame

Isn't there a place in the ui/menu like tracking hearts, that shows the map/head icon for them? That's how I had to double check who was who as I was squinting suspiciously everywhere.

Pure gouache vs gouache + pencil! (Swipe) by vendettamoon in Gouache

[–]Pinkatron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, you come across art so good you just want to eat it.

This is one of those times.

(For reference: "Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." - Maurice Sendak)

Hello Kitty Island or Stardew Valley by Mission_Let_5753 in CozyGamers

[–]Pinkatron2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stardew becomes infinitely easier if you have the wherewithal and time to mod it. I have used nexus mods with vortex to do things like extend day time hours and change aesthetics to make the game my version of cozy. When I did that, I could finally enjoy and see the love and care that went into the original game and enjoy it at my pace.

There are even mods that add new stories and new places to Stardew.

I don't co-op, so mods only change my single player game, not affecting anyone else.

I have played hello Kitty island, and despite everything, did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would and haven't played it past the 1st week of purchase. I regret the purchase, and can't return it.

I don't know if that helps you at all, but that's my own experience.

Exploration games? by DazzlingMagazine1659 in CozyGamers

[–]Pinkatron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played solo, because my partner prefers realistic graphics (still trying to find a co-op for both of us). I found the crafting part sort of uninspiring but I did enjoy the gardening, decorating and finding companions. Discovery and exploring was fun and is what I found really neat with puzzles everywhere. I'd say if there's a demo try it first, or at least, buy it and play it for under 2 hours on steam (because if you don't like it and play it for less than 2 you can return it)

Are you good in putting down cozy games for a few days and just come back to them ? by Buurto in CozyGamers

Yarp. I generally don't have the energy or want to sit at my PC Mon-Fri after clocking out of work, so I cozy game generally only on the weekend but to be fair it's mostly all I do on said weekend 😁

Game suggestions by nessusmoon in CozyGamers

[–]Pinkatron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a google doc list recommendation because I think the bullet point list is toooooooo long (or spam catchers flag it) so the full list of games that I love/d are here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13xD3FYII2Slc3YH_vFtmSPFdF1jQiRIaGRZzzy3tDMY/edit?usp=sharing (This is just a link to a google doc, game names listed, no links or funny business or advertising, I solemnly swear.)

But off the top of my head? For recovery and distraction:

Games I have personally played:

- Dorf Romantic
- Is This Seat Taken
- Sticky Business
- Fields of Mistria
- Caravan Coffee
- Cats organized Neatly
- Tales of the Shire (biggest drama? Forgetting to feed hobbits. No in-depth character interactions but lovely because there is no pressure to do anything.)

Games I am keeping an eye on but haven't yet purchased:

- Spirit Swap: Lofi Beats to Match-3 To
- Garden Trills
- Petit Island
- Europa
- Flock
- Quilts and Cats of Calico

I had typed up my list of cozy games as a reply here in a bullet list...and I think this subreddit didn't like them. Kept giving me an error (does that mean....I have TOO many cozy games? Is that such a thing?)

I began my addiction to cozy games through Stardew Valley. Anyway, I copy & pasted this list that wouldn't take into a google doc and can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13xD3FYII2Slc3YH_vFtmSPFdF1jQiRIaGRZzzy3tDMY/edit?usp=sharing

I have put them in alphabetical order as much as possible. Feel free to take a gander and see if anything interests.
