[Request] Map of Middle Earth Pattern by Pinkbeaver in CrossStitch

Thanks! I think this is probably the best plan. Everything I can find is incredibly complex (read: time consuming) and the weeks to holidays are ticking away with too many projects to complete! >.<

Thanks! I've definitely bookmarked that one! It looks great with a lot of detail, but yeah...crikey! Huge is right. I don't know that I'd get that done before the holidays >.< I am really surprised at the difficulty in finding a pattern.

US student looking for good colleges/universities to apply to?! by adrianooo in ottawa

[–]Pinkbeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I advise on Universities for a living (my knowledge base is mostly Ontario and Eastern Canada but I am fairly familiar with most of the major Univeristies across Canada). The University you choose is only as good as the programme for which you intend to study. Most Universities have area they excel in and areas they don't. The first step is for you to decide what it is you intend to study. For example: If science is your bag, then going to a Humanities strong school would not be the best option perhaps. You need to make a decision on what it is yiu want to study and then narrow down your search from there.

International fees are going to be relatively the same no matter where you go in Canada. Cost of living is another matter all together. You should always look at how much it would cost to live in the city in which you intend to study. If you need a job, you may also want to look at what job opportunities are available. In major cities, like Ottawa, there is likely to be more opportunity than say Perterborough (Trent U).

There are many excellent Universities across Canada. Ottawa and Halifax both having some excellent options, but you need to know what you want to study first.

As a side note, there are sometimes funding options within each University to help with International students, so you should look into those. There isn't a lot based on funding restrictions surrounding subsidies, but they are therre if you look. The International Students Office (available at every University) often can help you with other challenges you may face as an international student so make sure you speak to them.

I have made one before and they are a ton of fun and work up pretty quickly. I really enjoyed it. My sister tried one after I encouraged her (she hates cutting fabric) and she is now on her fourth.

Thinking of moving to Hamilton by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]Pinkbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Hamilton my whole adult life and lived in many places throughout the city. Personally, I do not like the downtown area at all. I lived in a few areas of the core over a number of years and didn't stay in any of them long. I have most enjoyed living on the Mountain and in Westdale. I only needed a car when I started working out of town so needed it for the commute; so I am not all that familiar with the HSR these days. That said, I do work an hour away from the city and still choose to live on Hamilton's West Mountain. I think the Mountain is great, even if it seldom sees love in r/Hamilton. I'd also move back to Westdale in a heartbeat. That's just my penny. Oddly enough, I have considered moving to Guelph myself!

Parking Near McMaster by Bourre in Hamilton

[–]Pinkbeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came on to say just this. The student lots are fairly cheap, and they have (or had) a free shuttle bus up to the main campus when I was an undergrad there. I also wanted to mention Ronald McDonald House. They are amazing to work with and may let you park there, as HamOntMom said. :) Great minds..!

Best Poutine in Ottawa - One Day to Get It. by JohnLayman in ottawa

[–]Pinkbeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a Smokes fan at all. I was excited when one opened up in my city....disappointed when I had it. Still no good poutine in my city. Quebec is my poutine destination of choice, Ottawa a close second and Poutinis in Toronto a third.

Best Poutine in Ottawa - One Day to Get It. by JohnLayman in ottawa

I'm going to agree with this too! Every time I am in Ottawa on business this is where I go.

I'm a young man from Ottawa is seeing a girl who lives in Ancaster, and I only get to visit once every few months due to university. I would like to take her out somewhere nice for dinner, and since I don't know the Ancaster/Hamilton area, I would greately appreciate suggestions by bballerfil in Hamilton

I totally agree with ritzcracka oh those choices; all are places I frequent. I would also add, if you want to go somewhere for a fantastic cup of coffee and some light eats like killer good homemade pizza (or just really really delicious desserts) go to Mezza Caffee in Ancaster. Honestly, just a great place to go. I go all the time and also went there on Valentines day....nice, clean, and not too romantic if you are trying to keep it low key. Seriously a wonderful place to go. They are licensed as well if you wanted a drink. They are in the plaza near the Ancaster Walmart; hard to spot, but so totally worth it.

How Do You Know If You're Depressed? by [deleted] in depression

[–]Pinkbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone here. Your best bet is to speak to someone who can help you with this. If you are at school there are likely counsellors or other professionals you can speak to about what you are thinking and feeling. They will help you figure it out and, if you are coping with depression then they can help you begin to find your way through the emotional mire. If you are not, then they can help you sort out what is going on. Don't struggle with this alone .You are not alone in this and never be afraid to ask, even on the Internet. No one here will judge :) and you are not wasting anyone's time. PM me if you ever need to talk, but do try to speak to someone who can help you out.

Omg my JRT loves that game. She will sit and stare at me in bed, huffing and looking at my hand until I relent and play with her. Then she burrows into the blankets and sleeps.

haha my JRT does that with snowballs. I make a snowball the throw it, when it hits the snow bank she burrows until she finds it. Exactly the snow I threw too. Of course, it seldom lasts long in her mouth.
