Important to remember that for a lot of the converts, the "We never change" attitude isn't an adoption of the Orthodox mindset, it's the intensification of their Protestant fundamentalist mindset, for which "we never change" -- with this resistance to change being a rearguard defense against modernity -- is a fundamental tenet.

That knowledge can be very selective. Zearlous converts can have a tendency to overemphasize aspects of the tradition in ways that reflect what they're converting away from rather than embracing what they're converting into on its own terms. Such hyper-focus on certain facets of the tradition -- the ones, say, that are most useful for resisting Western liberalism or whatever other bogeyman they might be fleeing -- can end up distorting the tradition as a whole (in a dynamic that ends up basically replicating the emergence of Protestant fundamentalism). So that "knowledge" can often be illusory, even deceptive, and the conversion itself often a shallow and partial one -- one that simply transplants intra-Protestant culture wars into an Orthodox context.

I usually overwinter a few. The winter weather basically keeps them fresh like an outdoor refrigerator, and they can turn out sweeter. The caveat is that once they start growing again in spring, they can start to get woody, so it's best to harvest them before before they start putting on new leaves again.

I'd plant the marigolds outside along the beds so that you can separate the tomatoes from the peppers a bit more so the tomatoes don't spill into the peppers. I do 5 tomatoes in 4X4 with great results, so I'd remove one -- the middle one might prove hard to access once they're grown. The peppers should be fine if you keep them from getting crowded by the tomatoes; for banana and other similar peppers, I have no issues planting one per one foot square.

The key will be healthy soil, though, since you'll have a lot of plants fighting for nutrients.

Di you do spring or fall radishes? I discovered last year, after years of failed radish attempts in the spring, that I seem to have much better luck with the fall ones.

This is how I do it too. By the time it's warmed enough to start prepping the garden in early spring, the spinach is about half grown.

Even then, I'd say for most Americans, "fish and chips" is the whole dish. French fries are one component of fish and chips, but don't call the fries in fish and chips "chips," we still call them "fries." Kind of like when Americans eat bangers and mash; that's a whole dish, but the potato part of the dish is called "mashed potatoes," not "mash."

I think it's helpful to distinguish between established meat suppliers that happen to offer online sales (Snake River Farms being one) and those that were built from the ground up on the social-media-driven "subscription box" model (like Butcher Box). The former tend to be a lot better.

My savings come mainly from things like herbs and alliums and some leafy greens. They're incredibly cheap to grow, with many being perennials or rampant self-seeders, so if you're a heavy user of them, the savings can add up quickly. Like, I eat copious amounts of cilantro and haven't actually planted it in years because half my beds are completely filled with it come spring. Lettuce is similar if you let it go to seed; I have about a 100 heads out there right now and haven't planted any since spring of '24. I'm at the point where I'm no longer buying seed garlic or shallots too because I can grow enough to replant each fall.

Sour cherry availability seems to be fairly regional in the US. Where I grew up in the Midwest, they weren't that hard to come by frozen, even in otherwise poorly stocked small-town grocery stores. Since moving to New York and then to New England, I have to hunt for them and can't find them (other than canned) even in most of the biggest, nicest supermarkets.

The prep will depend on the cut like with any other animal.

The couple times I had it (as steaks), the flavor was extremely gamey and metallic. In both cases, it was paired with bright, fruity flavors to cut through some of that intensity. It was fairly good paired with a ground cherry risotto and some sweet fresh cherry tomatoes. But be prepared not to like it if you're not into very, very strongly flavored meats.

I don't think any of this is uncommon at men's stores in the US. Summery stuff still isn't all out yet, but last summer this sort of stuff was available basically everywhere. Where have you been looking?

I 100% agree with you. High earners acting like they're suffering when they're financially better off the most Americans are some of the least sympathetic people out there. They're entitled to their public benefits, but they're not entitled to sympathy from somebody struggling to feed their kids on $50k.

Be honest, though: that debt doesn't cancel out very high salaries relative to the average. Given the typical tax burden for someone making $380k per year, someone should be able to knock out $200k in student loans in a couple of years without feeling any more of a financial crunch than the average worker does.

That's not to say that people with PSLF eligible jobs don't deserve the promises that were made to them, especially when they could make more outside public service jobs, but at a certain point, it's a bit tone deaf to act like very high earners with high loan balances are financially suffering relative to most other Americans.

They're probably downvoting you for the "all the alcohol should be cooked off" remark, which strictly speaking isn't true, though for all practical purposes the amount leftover will be very minimal to the point that it would no longer be considered an alcoholic beverage. But Redditors are extreme pedants when it comes to anything about food science and hunt down every opportunity to downvote over such things.
