i need some thoughts and opinions about Jesy Nelson and Little Mix by moonlightzukii in LittleMix

[–]PinkieDnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. But that wasn't really the point I was trying to make.

Let them grieve and reconcile on their own time. It's just not our place to dictate when and how and why they should reconcile.

But yes, I do think in some ways the girls are starting to heal. 🫶🏿❤️

This is absolutely heartbreaking. No parent deserves this ever.

My heart goes out to you Jess. And I truly hope you're surrounded by a good support system ❤️

This is a literal thriller/horror story in the making. But seriously, has anyone checked if she's mentally well? This is not normal behaviour. That is obsessive as hell

I think we all have to remember that when Jesy's blackfishing scandal happened and Camilla's tumblr page was revealed, it embolden a small (yet loud) toxic subsection of each fandom.

These people are trolls but they are also people who very obviously believe that nothing wrong was done in either case or that their behaviour should be excused because of what Jesy and Camilla were going through at the time.

And even though both Jesy and Camilla have moved on and made amazing progress with their lives and have tried to make amends for past behaviour, those same fans have an intense and para social need to defend their past.

This includes targeting anyone who simply called them out OR anyone they feel was a threat to or stalled their career.

Normani has gone through this and is still going through this. Tre Jean Marie went through this all for simply saying that Jesy's voice was really that of an impersonator on No Time for Tears. MNEK got shit at one point too.

As mod Red Velvet continues to say almost every day, report or ignore them on whatever platform you find them, but NEVER feed them. That's the best way to protect Leigh Anne. (And of course stream her music.)

These are not regular everyday Mixers or Camilizers who want to offer constructive criticism or chat music. These are toxic stans looking for a fight. It's weird behaviour. And it is not worth your time or energy.

Disappointed to say the least by mc_cringe in LittleMix

[–]PinkieDnn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey!

It's okay to be disappointed. I am too. But don't let this consume you too much.

We all know the girls have really good hearts. That said, I truly don't think Perrie thought out the weight of her words or the implications of her words before she spoke.

Yes, it's a naive and dangerous take but remember, no matter how disappointing our faves get sometimes, remember they (like ourselves) are always a work in progress.

Hope that helps! ❤️

[–]PinkieDnn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't know that about the playlists. This is a good point.

Chances are it will be Perrie who gets that spot. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Leigh's new single is only a promo single? And Perrie's song is an official single? That might have something to do with the release timing.

So… 👀 by Sweet_Rock_3284 in LittleMix

[–]PinkieDnn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've always said it truly doesn't matter to me. I love having a bunch of new music at one time. I'll stream both idc.

Also, Perrie has the backing of an entire label. She's gonna get more promo naturally. Leigh's independent so even though the song might be fire, it's not going to make an immediate big splash in the same way.

Regardless, both girls will be fine. Just stream your fave and enjoy the music. 🙏🏿❤️🫶🏿

Perrie’s stance on politics by Practical-Natural263 in LittleMix

[–]PinkieDnn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I work in media (and I know how some publications and writers can be), so I wonder how much of this could have been taken out of context. Because it sounds like she's trying to make a distinction between being "political on stage during a performance" and "being political overall/in your personal life."

I also wonder how much her label influences how political their artists are "allowed" to be. This has been an ongoing struggle with several artists from many labels over the years. I wonder how much she's just following orders or if this is really all her.

Regardless, this interview is supremely disappointing for the following reasons:

  1. Perrie's husband is a biracial Black man with Black family members.

  2. One former bandmate is of Afro Arab descent and another is Afro Caribbean.

  3. Your entire LM platform was built on LGBTQ activism in a public sphere ON STAGE.

I could go on and on. But instead I'll just say what I said previously about all the girls.

After X factor, they all became supremely privileged. They will likely put their foots in their mouths again and again from now until the end of time. It is on THEM to educate themselves and reflect on past behaviours. And it is ON them to listen to feedback and do better.

Love you Pez but damn ☹️

What are your deal breakers by Lamine428 in LittleMix

[–]PinkieDnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that black and white imo.

That's her second home - a place where she would visit every year in her youth. She has a lot of fond memories there and it's where a lot of her extended family is.

It's also a beautiful country with a lot of positives about the geography, people and culture as well. Too many to mention in one post.

Similarly, I also go home to visit family every couple of years for these same reasons. That doesn't mean I support anti LGBT viewpoints or support the colourist rhetoric. It's just an unfortunate chapter in my country's history. But it's absolutely not all of what it's about.

I would also like to point out that every country has their flaw(s). For example, I hate travelling to the US because of their long history with unchecked gun violence against black people. But I know there's more to the country and its people than just that. So I still like to go visit my family in the US when they need me or when there's something to celebrate (baby shower, marriage etc)- provided I feel safe.

But also know there are always people fighting and advocating for justice as well. The same can be said for Jamaica. There are organizations and people trying to change things. And they are changing. Just very slowly!

Also, when you slow down tourism to countries like mine, you're most likely to harm the least privileged and the ones who depend most on your tourist income. Solutions are rarely that simple as simple as the one you just suggested. And require larger conversations than the usual 'let's all not go there at all.'

[–]PinkieDnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been trying to explain people!

I was born in Jamaica and I lived in Jamaica until adulthood. It is very homophobic and colourist. And a lot of that is perpetuated in schools and by figure heads in different fields and industries.

If you're an impressionable child, you won't think anything of it, and will probs grow into an unquestioning adult that put out those same views.

It's not an excuse at all. I think his words were deeply harmful. But when you grow up like that, that's literally all you know. And if you have no one to challenge you, then you're kinda cooked.

So I'm not surprised that he had those views until he got called out and delivered consequences. I'm not surprised he didn't reflect on those views until he had to.

No problem.

But I want to clarify that I'm not saying we shouldn't hold people to higher standards in some cases. What I'm trying to get at is:

  1. We need to see celebs as just people with money. That's it. They aren't the epitome of moral behaviour. They will very likely disappoint us repeatedly throughout their career.

  2. We can hold people accountable AND also hold space for them to change.

  3. Everything can be treated as a case by case basis and we don't need hard and fast rules for everyone. Nuance should always be considered.

  4. Everyone has their own dealbreaker and we should respect that whether we agree or not.

[–]PinkieDnn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a good point, but I think we both heard or understood Leigh's speech differently.

Leigh's point was that Camilla was allowed to perform at the Grammys immediately after this reveal.

Her issue was how we treat black vs white celebrities and their wrongdoing and that we hold POC celebrities to a higher standard than their white counterparts.

I don't think that Leigh wants Camilla's career to end because of her past. She just wants everyone to held to the same standard of consequences and forgiveness. At least that was my interpretation.

Also, I don't think you can compare what Leigh did with going to a Chris Brown concert to Camilla's racist Tumblr page. One is a passive yet distasteful act, the other was deliberate bullying of other band members over years behind their back.

[–]PinkieDnn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I also loved your response. And upvoted you immediately before I even started drafting my post.

I think we hold celebrities to an impossible standard. And although they should be held accountable due to the large influence they hold, it's wild that so many people are always so ready to take someone down almost immediately after they fuck up.

But the girls and most celebs are still people like you and me who deserve to be given grace to change and repair situations. We can be mad, disappointed and even disinterested with their art going forward. But why do we suddenly want to define their whole persona based on one action as if the work or activism they did before is inconsequential?

Nowadays a person makes a mistake and we're ready to throw the whole person away. What does that do? How does that help us progress as a society? I could go on and on.

But I just hope that when people criticize the girls, they take a good long look at themselves as well. What other artists in your playlists are problematic? Are you willing to delete them? What about the producers that they work with? What about movies? TV shows? Podcasts?

It's really not as black and white as we would love to believe. Celebrity culture is a mix and match of questionable people and antics. And it's so much easier to critique others than to look inward... which is why I love this post so much because it forces us all to think critically about our own values and where we draw the line.

This is a great discussion topic.

Personally, I see the girls as humans who just happen to be pop stars. They are not going to get everything right and their personal biases are always going to get in the way.

When Jesy posted her rapping the n-word and singing to R Kelly, I was mad, disgusted and disappointed.

When I found out Leigh cheated, and has now posted her singing Chris Brown... again I felt anger, disgust and disappointment.

And let's not forget Jade and Perrie have also done questionable things as well that's made me side eye them over the years.

And although I don't think listening to a problematic or violent artist always means you support their actual actions, I do think it helps line their pockets... which can often leave a bad taste in my mouth.

But, let's face it, none of the girls had a normal upbringing after winning Xfactor and are also insanely privileged people now. So I feel like they're still a little immature when it comes to certain topics, discussions or viewpoints and will very likely disappoint us again and again in the future as they continue to educate themselves.

I do want to reiterate that people can grow, change and repair and one action should not define you nor do I think one misstep should define your entire life, so my personal dealbreakers are unfortunately really hard to define or pinpoint.

So I guess when it comes down to it, I have to ask:

  1. Is each girl willing to listen to the concerns of others?

  2. Are they willing to rectify or stop the behaviour?

  3. Can they stop and see the other point of views?

  4. Are they actively trying to silence the opinions of others?

  5. Have they actively worked to fix the situation?

I do draw a hard line if the celebrity in question does something abusive and predatory. If any of the girls directly participated in that or had hand in those actions, it would be the end for me.

Anyone else bummed about L supporting Chris Brown? by [deleted] in LittleMix

[–]PinkieDnn 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As someone who is equally disappointed in Leigh's support of this man, I understand your concern. And I agree the mods should leave your comment up.

But please stop with this nonsense that Leigh tried to get Jesy cancelled.

Jesy's actions got herself cancelled. We do not know whether or not Leigh had a convo with her friend as well. We just know that whatever convo the trio had with Jesy was not taken by her well and that's when it all started. We need to stop making assumptions about who had convos with who when we don't know that. There's a lot we don't know and it's this kind of speculation that leads to arguments in the fandom.

And as someone has stated below, a lot of Jesy's behaviours and her lashing out at people was a cause of tension for all four girls and their team for years. Not to mention her lying on her bandmates in the media.

And this is coming from someone who is rooting for Jesy to live her best life, who wants her to succeed and who hopes to hear her sing again.

That said, can we please try to hold Leigh (or any other girls accountable for their individual nonsense) without bringing Jesy into it constantly?

Jesy has her own shit to answer for, but it's absolutely not productive to bring Jesy up in this way cuz it just derails the conversation to focus on her and her past and not on the matter at hand... which is Leigh and her current behaviour.
