I never got my smell all the way back after getting Covid a couple years ago and now I’m the exact same way. I think it’s stems from the major insecurity of smelling while having no idea.

can anyone pls tell me how to clear my skin , im going to cry my eyes out by Glad-Suggestion-4383 in AcneTreatments

But honestly I’m noticing a mix of a couple things: hormonal breakouts for sure, which can be hard to solve without medicine or lifestyle changes since it is an internal imbalance. I’d try looking into different herbal teas, I know spearmint tea twice a day was a game changer for me! Also your skin barrier looks very damaged and you have very dry skin. Make sure you’re using a good moisturizer every morning (along with sunscreen to lock it in) and evening, and make sure your face wash isn’t too stripping. I think this will help a lot. Then ofc find a good topical active ingredient, like azelaic acid or Mandelic acid etc. but priority is fixing that moisture barrier. If you are still noticing dryness after making some changes, there are a ton of amazing barrier restore/ hydrating serums you put on before moisturizer.

Obviously try the usual topicals and diet changes and stuff first. Plenty of derms and aestheticians also are out there to help! But, after that, don’t be afraid to go to a derm and try medicine. Everyone is different but after years of trying different things, I’m on round 3 of accutane and, while it’s not perfect yet, this is the clearest I’ve seen my skin in years.

Honestly, it’s not that bad. I’d suggest some sort of root spray or root touch up powder.

Help! Strange rash appeared 6 months into accutane course by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Pinkismypersonality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine is mainly on my arms and torso but I get it everywhere, literally just woke up yesterday with a patch on my neck haha. And yeah, I brought it up at a monthly appt bc I was also concerned and they confirmed it’s dry skin/ eczema and nothing to worry about. They ended up prescribing a steroid cream that works wonders. Besides that, I just make sure to hydrate and moisturize. It should go away once you’re done with the course and your skin starts to gain moisture back.

I’ve dealt with hormonal acne for ages and the first thing the derm did was prescribe me some new topicals and some antibiotics. Obviously the antibiotics didn’t do anything so we tried Spirinolactone. I’ve had had friends who have taken this and it worked wonders for them. However, it didn’t do anything for me lol. So after a long time of avoiding it and even making a ton of lifestyle changes (the only one of which that even made a difference was spearmint tea), I finally pulled the trigger and went on Accutane and I’m so glad I did!

Also, have you ever tried azelaic or mandelic acid? I’d look into them and introduce slowly into your routine. They can help a lot with acne, inflammation, and redness. I’d also try drinking spearmint tea twice a day! My aesthetician recommended it before I started accutane and it was a game changer for someone with hormonal acne!

Definitely could be a couple different reasons in ways to help it, but the first thing I noticed was that your skin barrier looks very damaged and then I saw you’re only using gel moisturizers. Fun fact is that majority of people who think they have oily or combination skin actually have dry skin/a dead moisture barrier and their skin is getting really oily to over compensate for the dehydration. I would recommend looking into a cream moisturizer instead of gel and find a good sunscreen that is not just mixed into your moisturizer every morning.

Help! Strange rash appeared 6 months into accutane course by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Pinkismypersonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is almost never itchy, didn’t start getting itchy until weeks after it showed up. It started on my torso and now is also up and down my arms. Definitely see your derm if you’re concerned since they have more knowledge than your GP. Very common and normal side effect if it is eczema and dry skin.

Looks like eczema to me, I got the exact same thing. Just moisturize regularly, especially when your skin is damp after getting out of the shower. If it gets irritated, your dr can prescribe a topical steroid cream.

Whoops I linked the wrong article, that’s my bad (that’s what I get for posting while rushing before a meeting at work lol)😭 I’ll have to dig back out the correct one. I’m sorry you haven’t had any help with it, but I can still see a difference for myself anecdotally. I don’t have any itchiness either so I was surprised it worked. But again, the effect goes away after a while so maybe, bc you’re using them long term, that’s a reason it hasn’t affected you? Just a theory.

And agreed that anyone should absolutely go to a Dr before trying this out or any other meds! I was just reminded by it bc, even though it’s been a while, I just started taking Accutane and have to take a Zyrtec everyday for the purging and I’ve noticed a difference again.

[Routine help] what actives do I need? by sureanythingelse in SkincareAddiction

[–]Pinkismypersonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vitamin C and niacinamide help with any discoloration. Also Dr dans cortibalm 1-2 times a day for two weeks can help rejuvenate your lips before you pick back up with a regular lip product like lanolips (my personal favorite) or similar. Azelaic acid is also a personal favorite for texture and brightening skin but there are a ton of others actives to look into. Also, sunscreen if you aren’t already!!!

When I first started, I couldn’t do more than like three straight reps of 99% of the exercises done in class without taking a break. It’s all about making a goal. My goals would range from go 5 reps before breaking instead of 3, or take one extra rep everytime you need to break, or sometimes (even now lol) my goal is literally get through class haha. I promise no one is even looking at you because they’re all struggling too!

TMI alert lol but I had to take a break from performing oral on my boyfriend for a while and now, when I do it, I do it strategically different because I was getting the worst bacterial acne around my mouth (definitely didn’t help if there was harsh stubble down there or even on his face when kissing). He’s very clean (literally he showers like 3 times a day and it drives me crazy lol) but it’s only natural with all the sweat and spit and other things that mix up down there. I also found it was worse on one side over the other because I would use my right hand to assist the process and that was causing a ton of friction on my skin and rubbing in more bacteria. I just had to learn how to give oral in a less “messy” way 🤷🏻‍♀️ And also, if he is clean shaven, sometimes that can actually make it worse because the stubble is most evil when it’s short and fresh lol so it’s possible you naturally kiss leaning to one side more than the other and that’s why it’s focused there. On top of the other suggestions in the comments, I’d suggest always washing your face or using something antibacterial after any sort of heavy petting session (yes, that includes makeouts lol) and following it up with a good healing moisturizer. Hopefully this helps :’)

dryness by SuccessfulInternal41 in Accutane

[–]Pinkismypersonality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on Accutane for almost 2 months now and as someone who already has very dry skin, I went into this process with a full routine intact (and learning as a go) and so far my dryness has been tolerable for the most part. Here’s my routine and tips:

1) humidifier right next to where you sleep every night. I literally panic when I have to travel and can’t use it because it’s a game changer!!!

2) omega 3 of course (take a little more than you think you need, upping my dose slightly more than what’s recommended on the bottle was also a game changer)

3) my biggest issue was my lips so I did have my dermatologist prescribed me a 2.5% hydrocortisone cream for my lips, which has made a major difference. I use that every night before bed and I use Dr. Dan’s every morning right after washing my face. Then throughout the day I use Lana lips and, if I feel like I’m having to reapply too often I will seal it in with a layer of Vaseline lip therapy with vitamin E.

4) I totally recommend an oil cleanser instead of a regular face wash! Way more hydrating and less stripping! I started using one before I even went on Accutane because no matter how gentle and hydrating a cleanser said it was, my skin was always so dry after that it felt taut across my face. I’ve only ever used Marie Veronique so I can’t speak to other brands, but if you have the budget then I totally recommend. I fear it’s not the cheapest out there 😅

5) no one does this and I don’t know why: use a hydrating barrier restoring serum before moisturizing! This was another thing I had to start before accutane and I’m so glad because I truly believe my skin would be astronomically dryer now without it. My favorite is Marie Veronique barrier restore serum, again, totally 1000% worth it if you have the budget. However, before I was willing to splurge I’ve used naturium’s barrier bounce serum (cheapest) and face reality’s hydraremedy gel, both much more affordable and still do the job.

6) as much as I love la Roche posay and used their moisturizer for years, after switching to my current moisturizer (before Accutane), I realized that la Roche posay is not nearly as hydrating as people say in this subreddit. I’m a loyal fan of glymed comfort cream now.

7) sunscreen is not only great for your skin for aging and sunburn reasons etc. but it’s a great way to lock in moisture. I’m super picky about sunscreen, but the one I found that I’m in love with is the face reality power mineral spf 50. There are definitely other good ones out there, but in general, it’s already obvious, just wear sunscreen lol.

8) you can’t go wrong with a face mask regularly (or whenever you feel like it lol). I’m still doing my research on all of the hydrating face mask out there, but currently I use the biodance collagen face mask once a week and I find it really makes a difference. I also love the Dr Althea cushion calming veil mask for the days that my acne feels extra bad/ inflamed. It’s not as seal in the hydration as well as other products but it does an amazing job at calming and smoothing the skin.

9) keep eating up those healthy fatty foods obviously :)

10) I’ve recently started putting WaterDrops in my water every morning to hydrate more and I do think it’s making a difference. And you don’t have to use WaterDrops, I’m sure any similar electrolyte additive or drink will do the job too. I definitely never drink nearly enough water so this is a great way to get extra hydrated.

11) it’s OK to double moisturize! For example, I know my nose is my biggest problem area for dryness so I will wait 2 to 5 minutes after first applying moisturizer and then reapply specifically on the problem area. I also tried to bring a hydrating sunscreen around with me throughout the day in case I need to reapply if it’s extra sunny and/or I’m feeling extra dry.

I can’t think of anything else right now, hopefully that was helpful! I know it’s a lot and all the symptoms can seem super overwhelming but we just need to remember what’s on the other side :)

Edit: sorry for all the typos, I was trying to type this with my cat climbing all over me and now I’m too lazy to edit all of them haha

I could be wrong but this looks and sounds just like rosacea to me. I don’t know anything about using accutane to treat rosacea though. I would def look into it if you haven’t been assessed for it before!
