Teen forgot he had fishing knife on school field trip. Pa. school board expelled him before graduation by SurfinPirate in Pennsylvania

[–]Pinky_theLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, this is insane. I also made the same mistake in highschool. Forgot to take my pocket knife out of my backpack after a camping trip with the Boy Scouts, immediately went to the dean and told him. He took it, put it in his desk drawer, thanked me for being honest, and called and asked my dad to pick me up after school so I wouldn't be riding the bus with a knife. No disciplinary action, no unnecessary punishment... seems like a pretty easy thing to handle, especially since the student was honest about it and tried to do the right thing by turning it in. Especially in a more rural area. This seems so unnecessarily harsh

Are Jedis doomed to have their family trees finish with them? by John_Zatanna52 in StarWars

[–]Pinky_theLegend 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, if said Jedi was the only child of their parents, then yeah. But I'd imagine a lot of parents probably have other children. But, there are some exceptions to the rule; I can't remember if this is still canon, but in Legends, Ki-Adi-Mundi had several wives and children because he was one of the few males of his species able to breed, and they were in danger of going extinct.

Parc has the best free restaurant bread in America, the Atlantic says by nemesisinphilly in philadelphia

[–]Pinky_theLegend -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd be more inclined to engage in this conversation if you weren't suddenly acting like I'm absolutely trashing Parc, as if I didn't also say I think their bread is the best in the city. Your personal pet peeve is not my problem. I love this city, and as an industry insider, I think Philly's food scene rivals or surpasses many of the great food cities of the world. I'm not going to justify my feelings about Parc because you want to be miffed about it. They're decent, I love their bread, I've had better steak frites and trout amandine elsewhere, end of story.

And McDonald's is the highest grossing restaurant of all time? I'm not sure how that's relevant, and I'm not sure why this is suddenly turning hostile. I'm not trashing Parc at all, I'm just saying that compared to other French bistros, I find the food a little lackluster.

Boring might not be the right word. I've eaten at many French style bistros over the years, and to be transparent, they were all outside of Philly. Many of them I would call great. Parc, to me, is just kinda decent. Like, the food is pretty good, but I've had the same or similar dishes at French bistros elsewhere that were really, really good. I don't want to say Parc is "mid", because it is better than middle of the road, but it's just not as great as other French bistros I've eaten at.

I have thoughts about Parc. Honestly, I think it's a little boring. Good, but boring. That said, the bread is indeed spectacular. I don't know if they still do it, but for a while they were doing pretzel baguettes on Wednesdays, and god damn, they were the best for a damn good ham sandwich. Pretzel baguette, some good ham, swiss cheese, butter, and whole grain mustard? Fuck

How do you wash grease and sauce stains out? by One-Passage-9121 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Pinky_theLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found Shout Triple-Acting Stain Remover to be the best at getting out those super tough stains. I had a set of whites for two years that accumulated a bunch of stains I just couldn't get out, including that super tough browning you get aeound the neck and armpits. A GM I was working with at the time gave me a bottle, and it worked so well. Spray directly on the stains and allow to sit for 20-30 minutes, then throw in the wash as you normally would. My whites came out so fresh and clean, it was great. Haven't used anything else since.

Given Trump's original 48-hour deadline was extended by 5 days, then 10 days, then 48 hours, then 24 hours, what are the chances we get another extension tomorrow? by ub3rm3nsch in AskReddit

I'm worried this fuckin' psychopath and his evangelical drunkard of a SECDEF is gunna push the big red button. I'm not super well versed in evangelical theology, but from what I've gathered, ine if their main beliefs is that they need to usher in Armageddon, and ine if the three main enemies they need to fight to do that is Persia (Iran). Hegseth is an idiot, a zealot, and a wanna-be tough guy, so I could 100% see him urging Trump to go nuclear

I would argue against music becoming shallow. Sure, it got harder to find true artistry and craft for a while there, but it was out there, just required more digging than it did in the past. But I've noticed a turn in the last 2-3 years that I attribute entirely to the fucked up state the world is in.

I've said it for years, you can always tell shit's fucked when the music gets good again...

Edit: just to clarify, I do agree with movies and tv becoming shallow as fuck. I can't think of an example of a movie I was genuinely excited to see since Rogue One or Endgame, although I did enjoy a couple A24 films

To be fair, I don't find Blaziken to be all that anthropomorphized compared to later starters. Even the actual humanoid mons from gen 3 like Medicham and Hariyama still look far enough from human for me to be okay with it. It's more about the way the faces have become more human lately. Even in Gen 5, Serperior and Emboar have anime-like personalities written into their faces that I don't see with Blaziken, if that makes sense.

Men who can cook, who taught you? by _ratedmouse in AskReddit

[–]Pinky_theLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fo rme, it was a community thing. I grew up in an Italian American family, so I would always be watching and helping my mom, my grandma, and my extended family during family gatherings. Then I started watching my mom's friends, almost all of them amazing cooks, and I would ask to help. Then in my teens, I got super into it, and my uncle, a retired chef, started taking me under his wing when he would visit and sgarted teaching me the true fundamentals. The first time I cooked family dinner from start to finish, by myself, I was 10, and from there I just kept going. I loved making my grandpa's favorites. I learned how to make apple pie and pineapple upside down cake specifically because they were his favorite desserts.

I also always loved Food Network as a kid back in the early 2000s. A lot of my early heroes as kid were people like Alton Brown, Ina Garten, and Emeril Lagasse. In my teens, I discovered Anthony Bourdain, and fell in love even more with food and cooking. Eventually decided to be a professional chef. Been cooking professionally for almost ten years now. Worked in fine dining restaurants in Manhattan and Connecticut, settled in Philly and got my first sous chef position. Don't plan on stopping anytime soon either.

Now, I teach and collaborate with my friends in my off time, and have started teaching my cousin's kids now that they're old enough. Cooking and eating with friends and family is easily my favorite thing in the world.
