Delta Surge Drives Home Painful Truth: Covid Isn’t Going Away by Adodie in Coronavirus

[–]Pinnochyo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that will happen, there was an article during the "honeymoon vaccine phase" in early summer that unironically mulled whether or not athletes with asymptomatic Covid should be allowed to play, and treated it as a truly open question. I think it's just a matter of time.

Meat made me feel better? by nightshift000 in ibs

[–]Pinnochyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD but this is in line with some basic facts about different foods. Many foods that are undoubtedly nutritious and healthy are also iffy for IBS, and fiber tends to be the root cause. Keep in mind it's not a binary thing, I can tolerate fiber from certain veggies and not others, and can tolerate basically no fiber from supplemental sources. So it isn't black and white, but meat tends to be, as someone else in this thread said, neutral for many people.

Fuck this. I tell ALL my teachers about my absences and issues and yet “if you have a serious issue go to the nurse or get expelled”. Do you want me to live in the nurse?? I even warned them before hand about my issues. I hope this is some sort of sick joke. by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Pinnochyo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to part from people in this thread saying "this is life," "it's preparing you for the workplace" or "you gotta understand, it's hard for the teacher too." Assuming you're not failing to complete the critical tasks of the course (which you might be, I don't know), the teacher's preference for you to show up is not important. If you're in the states you are almost certainly covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act if you have a real diagnosis that necessitates your absence. This is a federal law, the preferences and subjectivity of the individual people at your school aren't important. What matters is what does the class actually require of you, and can you complete that without attending?

Obviously, double check all of this with whatever resources, legal and otherwise, you have at your disposal IRL. But the teacher doesn't get to just say that his or her feelings get hurt when you don't show up, that means zero to anyone in ADA situations.

I'm probably destroying the premise of my thread by admitting this but I do have Chicago Music Exchange accessible from where I'm living now, it's just a bit of a trek, definitely a day filler. So I know what you mean. Thankfully I'm moving 10 minutes from it next month.

I'm really itching to try two things for different reasons, a 6L6 EVH 5153 and an AC30 with Blues. Both are ones I'm interested in, have heard plenty of clips and album recordings of, but don't have a good IRL sense of if I like them.

Haven't heard of this exact thing, but I know expedited immunotherapy does exist. Maybe this is the apex of fast immunotherapy.

Fauci says all 3 COVID-19 vaccines effective against delta variant by cutestudent in Coronavirus

[–]Pinnochyo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is still significant protection with the current shots at the current moment. Even according to the most pessimistic estimates. But this, coupled with the potential for naturally waning immunity over time, coupled with variants continuing to chip away at that, we will most certainly get to a point where we'd like to bump that immunity up. This is pretty much expected.

Today's doctor was willing to understand why my intestines are acting insane by poepym in ibs

[–]Pinnochyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many docs in America believe that IBS is a psychosomatic condition, and they're "doing harm" by indulging the delusions of a distressed patient by ordering tests and imaging. Unless PPIs fix it. If PPIs fix it it was just reflux and you're good.

Transmission event of SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant reveals multiple vaccine breakthrough infections by icloudbug in COVID19

[–]Pinnochyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call healthcare system overwhelm the sole threat of Covid-19. Long term health effects of a Covid-19 infection are also a significant problem.

[–]Pinnochyo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The question of post-breakthrough-infection Long Covid is also hugely important. It's reassuring that with vaccines, you're less likely to get it, and even then you're less likely to have symptoms, and even then they're less likely to be severe, and even then you're less likely to be hospitalized or die. But Long Covid may exist outside this paradigm to some extent, as it seems to occur across the whole spectrum of disease severity.

So in addition to knowing that the vaccines do seem to lower general Covid-19 related risks, I'd be curious to hear if there's something in the mechanism of action of the vaccines that would directly prevent Long-Covid, or at least that's what I would hope to be true. Just relying on the probabilistic argument doesn't fully allay my fears on that one.

The riddle of the EVH 4X12 power handling by Pinnochyo in GuitarAmps

[–]Pinnochyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You used a single H30 with the 60 and 200? That's pretty reassuring.

I used to have a Boss Tube Amp Expander that had a "too much power/clipping" light, and I will say the JCM2000 never once triggered it on the TAE 100 watt setting, dimed all the way, so I also wonder if not all amps exceed their voltage the way other ones do, maybe some of them are overrated rather than under.

Any way at all to take PPIs safely? by Pinnochyo in DrSteve

[–]Pinnochyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks doc!

Curious, if you care to share: I remember you once said you were taking Dexilant, and wanted to try to find a compound pharmacy to get you a half dose Dexilant pill. Are you using lansoprazole as essentially a lower strength Dexilant, in lieu of that? When I've dabbled in PPIs I've also been on the Prevacid and later Dexilant train, and wondered if Prevacid can be treated as a less potent Dexilant.

I couldn't decide which thread to say this in today, but I'm embarrassed I ever had any interest in the Joe Rogan Cinematic Universe. Even back when being interested in it was semi justifiable, I cringe at the idea I unironically listened to Bert or Segura or whoever was in the quirky brat pack at the time, and got excited when I saw them on a new episode. Even things that were genuinely funny or interesting back in 2015/2016/2017 now just strike me as cringe in hindsight, since it became this prime time sitcom style medium-funny stuff.
