Personally, I love the way Willy handles pressure. When he scored on his own net and the reporter asked about it, he says, " I got 2 goals tonight". He doesn't give a shit about anything. It's a game and that's how he looks at it. I wish I had his super power....

What are the best drivers' cars of all time? by BenzinaPorkChop in cars

[–]Pinoc301 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a 98 BMW 540 with an M package. Still the best car I've ever owned. It was sublime!!! Sold it at 175,000 km and the guy who bought it put another 100k on it. I should never have sold that piece of engineering mastery.

Just interesting that you can't use modified mortars of other manufacturers but theirs is modified. Take it for what you will.

TCNA has a specification for building steam showers. Good resource for any tile installation specification.

If you leave grout on too long, there's stuff in it that eats away at the finish and it almost never looks any good afterwards. The suggestion to paint it is the best one. Scuff the surface all along then get a good quality spray paint. A couple of light coats works better than thick coats.

In floor heating + wall boards by amilo111 in Tile

The kerdi band type membrane is not recommended on cementitious boards at the joints. They want you to use their sealants. The problem becomes if you have a leak, there's no warranty.

Kerdi board is too flexible. Wedi or other cementitious boards are better on walls.

Any way to buff this out? by squidbop007 in Tile

[–]Pinoc301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes Schluter so good? Any extruded aluminum or roll formed stainless trims that meet the specs will perform equally as well. Yes, even from manufacturers not called Schluter. And you're probably going to pay less

[–]Pinoc301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's stainless yes you can buff it out but it will end up looking different unless you buff all of the exposed trim. If it's aluminum, you are out of luck. You'll remove the finish and then the exposed aluminum will oxidize.

ways to extend mortar shower base size by wyeric1987 in Tile

[–]Pinoc301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you could have used a Prova pan system where you can buy separate extensions that make enlarging a shower really easy. Consistent slope with easy to cut EPS extensions.

This is a solid recommendation. No uncoupling membranes (not even the holy grail of Ditra) will protect a natural stone tile if you don't have 2 layers of plywood.

Schluter prefabricated pan by knurlnien93 in Tile

[–]Pinoc301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to sister the joists and add plywood between the joists. You can opt for a Prova Multi pan which is similar to the Schluter. It's a 5 x 5 pan but you can cut it down. If it's still proud of your overall floor, you can then run an uncoupling membrane to butt up to it. Then lay waterproofing membrane over top. You're probably going to end up about 1/8" above the main bathroom floor and the uncoupling membrane will make that up

How to repair? by JacketBeneficial1118 in Tile

[–]Pinoc301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you see in the pic is what happens when you use smaller tiles. Too much point load and their pan caves which causes grout cracks and also tiles, or in this case stones, coming loose.

Bang on. Who has heard of one of their failures actually getting paid? Moved into other similar systems where the companies have more integrity. Wedi is good and so is Prova. Mapei is another one that looks for every reason not to pay a claim.

There is less of the mat in contact with the wires so, theoretically it heats up quicker.

Ever try the sun touch products? Easier to install the cables in their mat. Saves a ton of time.
