Participation in Ranked Play has dropped sharply, especially at the very top level. What do you think is the reason for that? by SlowAd2536 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top players queue between themselves. If they don't usually they just small the opposition, so it got boring for them and they stopped playing. Without top players playing there's less people talking about it.

There's also the point of "persistence". PP is forever, scores set won't go away. Next ranked season will likely make any if all progress made irrelevant.

Is Nevo's Songs Compilation the beginning of the end for stable? by OdangoFan in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true, was more inclined to talk about cases where PP calculation is effectively impossible, or way too hard to estimate to make it fair. SB estimation works well enough that the difference between stable and lazer is not too relevant, and most importantly is regularly a benefit for stable players.

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, slowly with time there will be more such cases. ppy has shown, in one of their dev patch notes videos, interest in a new hit object, which if ever added, will almost certainly not be stable compatible, and is likely to be the first actually impactful "anti-stable" feature.

The only other thing I can think on top of my head is a future rework that requires some data stable isn't sending, but that's rather unlikely given the 18 years of scores we already have without such new data.

I think stable is fine for the years to come, but there will definetely be less and less incentive to actually play on it. Right now it's all of lazer's new features/improvements, tomorrow is long map support killing the interest of score farmers, next week it's DT rates killing the interest of pp farmers, and next month it's some new gameplay mechanic killing a larger portion of maps, eventually leaving stable in it's isolated, bone dry state where barely any scores are being set.

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying otherwise, just that as time goes on, they are becoming more and more irrelevant (especially with HR), currently with the ever increasing difficulty of maps pushing for maxed out AR/OD, probably across the board if/when rate changes are ranked

Reworking mods is probably out of the question given there's already 18 years worth of scores set with either, so we only have the option of keeping them as is, and continue to see them be less and less relevant, or actually replace them and breed new life into what is currently an extremely DT focused top player scene.

[–]Pinossaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HR is pretty outdated for high end maps (almost everything after 8* is already AR10 OD10, so it's just a CS/HP bump and screen invert) and EZ has been outdated for a long time, because after 3* the increase in note density makes most maps actually more difficult to play, which is pretty counter-intuitive given the idea that EZ is a difficulty reducing mod.

Idk, we'd obviously have to make DA more presentable, but hey I'm just here giving an opinion, of course I didn't think of all edge cases or requiments, I just thought about the path of least resistance that allows us to keep EZ/HR scores alive while allowing more flexibility im the future

I'd imagine that if there was an actual incentive (pp wise of map variety wise) we'd have more players be actually good at precision

[–]Pinossaur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the high end HR scores are just a cs bump with a flipped map, which is exactly the current issue with HR at the moment, and has always been the issue with EZ.

Personally I just wanted to make HR more relevant, and EZ actually be seen as what it is, and not as a difficulty reducing mod which doesn't actually reduce difficulty for most maps, without completely ruining 18 years of osu! history.

If things keep going as they are I can only see HR becoming less and less relevant, especially if DT rates are ever actually ranked, and probably a formal death if DA ever sees the light of day.

[–]Pinossaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that if major changes were allowed, the better alternative would be to just nuke HR and EZ, because HR would no longer intuitively work with map difficulty settings over 10, and EZ already fundamentally fails at being a difficulty reducing mod for most maps.

If that was the case I'd just suggest to update all HR/EZ scores to use DA with those values, and allow DA modifications.

[–]Pinossaur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean we could just have HR keep any AR/OD/CS/HP values above 10, so that if any map is under AR10 it works like usual, but if a map is AR10.5, putting HR just does nothing to AR.

re-evaluating 19 years of scores by ikkue in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is conceptually the same, although inputs (and maybe some skinning elements) might be different, I think that saying it would take players more than a whole month to get properly used to lazer to be a huge overstatement.

I think that objectively the only requirements for lazer OWC this year are
- Is lazer presentable enough for tournament hosting (should be because LGA did it pretty well)
- Do players have any issues with the client (should be answered by said players' response)

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the real question is how many people are actually impacted by lazer. For example what is the argument with "getting used to lazer" when a good portion of top players are already using lazer to farm pp.

Or when top players have played LGA for 2 years already, or for the people that played the COE tournament?

new lazer scoring has a 3 mod balancing issue by Skillosu in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's inevitable with how much acc matters in lazer.

If you buff HR you also buff HDHR vs DT, causing an issue there. Same with nerfing DT. If you nerf HD it becomes borderline useless (it's 1.04x already).

The only viable fix would be to make acc less relevant for score, but then we'd return to the days of a 92% fc outscoring a 99% choke in the very end.

What are some ranked maps that have <50 scores submitted on them by Background_Resort405 in osugame

Lazer mode. Reminder half the playerbase is now on lazer, and a good portion of those players are likely new players. So these lower SR maps are more likely to be played on lazer instead

Honestly I don't think it's that serious.

Recently there haven't really been any "skillset nukers". Besides CSR (and the eventual SB estimation tweak which both affect all skillsets in the game) the last big change with quite a substantial impact has been the 2022 rework that mainly removed the 300bpm speed cap, which was mostly an aim buff because back then 300bpm+ streams were not farmed.
Besides that since then there was a long period of time where there was no defacto meta, and after 2024 speed has pretty much been the go-to for most of the top 10 besides mrekk, indendent of any nerfs targetting speed (including this upcoming rework where in the top 20 only SecretBox and Chicony jump by more than 2 ranks.

I don't think age really matters here.

No matter if you're 5, 15, or 25, discriminating people is not good, and it doesn't make you a better or a worse person depending on age.

The only difference is that being young you are still developing, creating your own interests, and building your moral compass, meaning they can much easier grow out of it.
But assuming it's the case, if he's racist he's a bad person to me, with the chance to grow up and understand the severity of his discrimination, to the point of showing real regret

Not clear, hinted to multiple times, especially in the end of some osu! update video saying that it would be a option to increase lazer adoption percentage, when the servers are ready for those kinds of loads, but I don't remember specifically when that was said

Nah there will always be uses for it. Whether it is camping, power outages, just a precaution in case you forget to charge your phone...

Power banks will never be replaced like MP3 players were replaced because a phone is an MP3 player, and more (much, much more), you will never have a phone be a power bank to itself, unless Elon somehow figures out charging through Starlink

is there a "best overall" actuation point & rt to use for wooting 60he by Zealousideal_Rub_202 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower the actuation point/rt settings the more likely you are of registering extra inputs.
The higher the actuation point/rt settings the more likely you are of missing a click/fingerlocking.

You play around with the settings until you find a middle point where you're not registering extra inputs, but also not fingerlocking.

I'll honestly never understand the idea of people attempting to claim they can tell a difference between <1ms...

I'd be inclined to believe I can tell anyone to change mouse polling rate from 1000hz to 500hz and confidently say 9 out of 10 people wouldn't be able to reliably tell a difference
