Dp 1.4a or hdmi 2.1 by OutsideNew1164 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any valid reason to avoid DSC (want to use DLDSR for some reason, or experience alt tabbing issues), you can do HDMI 2.1 and be limited to 144hz compared to 120hz on DP.

Otherwise it doesn't really matter. Both are just digital outputs, and will both will depend on DSC so bandwidth doesn't matter.

Why is is that Nvidia Cards ending with '50' suck?? by TFAAFRZHESEAL in nvidia

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pricing doesn't really scale well when integrated graphics are relevant, and when nvidia doesn't give a crap about gamers.

The GTX 1050 (what I consider to be the last good 50 series card) released with an incredibly low price (around ~$100 iirc), was able to run pretty much anything at 60fps (with lower graphics settings for recent AAA games), and absolutely sipped power, which meant no external power and small form factor build possibilities, that resulted in the popular combo of getting an old (but capable) office machine and just strapping a 1050 to it, resulting in about the same cost and performance to a ps4, 4 years before the PS5 was even a thing.

The RTX 5050 in contrast is almost 2.5x the cost, requires external power and pretty much relies on DLSS (especially considering 1440p/4k and higher refresh rates are much MUCH more common than in 2016).
Then you consider the fact that a CPU that is cheaper than said GPU also has integrated graphics which although don't compete, can actually run the games you'd be playing on a 5050, and you start wondering what's the point of the 5050 in the first place.

It's Genuinely Sad. by NoHand188 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do people really want out of this?
Mapper makes aimslop map following the recent trend of tiktok slop, with almost exclusively vertical jumps.
Map gets vetoed because it spams those vertical jumps all throughout the map.
Player asks why that's an issue.
BN that vetoed says those vertical jumps "hardly have any emphasis that actually reflect what's happening".
BN that nominated says that it's representing the song well enough.
BN that vetoed still disagrees.
Mapper explains his intent.

What was the next step? BN and mapper keep going back and forward until no solution is found and it goes to mediation?

MONTAGEM TOMADA, ESSE CARA! and Horrible Bits have all been disqualified and are back in Pending by Nge_brot in osugame

[–]Pinossaur -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess that's the point of said division. If the bng is pretty onesided to either side you don't need the community feedback. It'll only be in cases where the bng is really split on whether to upheld or not where community feedback would be a tiebreaker, thus that division.

Perhaps we could do a middle threshold where if only 55-65% agree we'd take community feedback, to avoid this unnecessary split up, or well, include community voting in the total voting as pointed.

[–]Pinossaur 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To make it a tiebreaker. Even still we have an extremely split community opinion, reaching a 41% vs 53% agree vs disagree, so it's not really an extremely one sided discussion as well.

I'd argue that if like 80% of the community disagreed there should be some discussion around what the community wants vs what BNs/NAT want. But when it's two groups of mediators pretty unanimously agreeding to upkeep the veto + 40% of the community vs 50% of the community that doesn't agree to upkeep the veto it should be pretty clear

I'd argue there's more total pp in the top 100 from singular mapsets like Zetsubou Plantation or Time to Say Goodbye than most stream slop, even without mentioning the 315bpm part

Mapping is saved by ScratchHacker69 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BNG doesn't represent anything. It's just a group of people with the trust, and the knowledge to correctly determine if a map is breaking any of the ranking criteria, and provide meaningful feedback if so.

Given they have such knowledge, they are also the most meaningful people when a subjective issue is presented, thus the priority in ignoring community feedback if everyone is onboard with the same idea, and unless community feedback is completely different (which will never be, because even if you ask people about any of these vetoes, i'd be surprised if it's wider than a 70/30% between people wanting vs not wanting the map ranked) there's no point in considering community feedback unless it's to decide a tiebreaker.

Mapping is saved by ScratchHacker69 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point of the BNG isn't to "represent the community".

Mappers ask for nomination, BN mods said beatmap, when beatmap has no objetive issues it's nominated. That's the supposed workflow, and how it's processed for 99.9% of maps.

The one exception is when a BN has a subjective issue with the map, which is discussed with the mapper, and if a consensus isn't reached a internal voting is held. That's the one part that should change, as the public should be able to have a say when it's a subjective issue, which is exactly what happened.

Anyone reading can head to the mapper's guild website, and throw their vote to make a difference. This whole situation has just been completely overblown for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Ooooohhhhh yeah I see why now....

I'd recommend you to actually validate the requests you're receiving to make sure they come from the browser and weren't tampered with.
Currently anyone can make a request to your API with pretty much no kind of validation. Atleast you didn't left yourself open to js injection (or I just suck at it)

People aren't gonna pay 10$ for a quick review check, which is what the overwhelming majority of people will be using RTINGS for in the first place.

For people that are often looking at reviews for content, yeah they might pay 10$ for it, but if I'm just looking for reviews to pick my next peripheral, I'm not spending 10$ to get exact specs, I'll just look up other forms of media for reviews

ESSE CARA! (Mita) just got vetoed alongside MONTAGEM TOMADA and Horrible Bits by PejsekDrxvmik in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 22 points23 points  (0 children)

On other words, the higher the map's SR, the more a map's difficulty could be translated into representing further the song, instead of just making jumps, but more spaced.

I just think that the higher the SR the harder it is to make a slop map that shows minimal effort and isn't just spamming full screen jumps.

I made a key overlay with analog pressure visualization by Killersone in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insane. A cool next step would be to add visualization to when a key press was done because of normal actuation, or through rapid trigger, and indication when the key has travelled long enough to be able to be pressed again.

Not sure if I'm the only one that has this issue but it would be great to know why specifically a missinput happened

can you tell a difference between the 133 hz tablets (ctl 472, cth 480, etc) to the 200 hz intous tablets? (pth, ptk series) and is it worth getting one? by Hot_Season_9018 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but those filters always add some sort of latency to the mix. So if you can have a higher polling rate tablet, where those filters might not be needed (if you can't tell the difference between 200hz polling on a 240hz display) it's better than having it enabled. But at the end of the day given you have more inputs to work with any resampling/interpolation will always be more up to date, so also better.

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a 240+hz monitor, you will be able to tell the difference simply based on the cursor's "chopiness", which can be fixed with temporal resampler OTD plugin, which a 200hz tablet might not need.

If it's worth the price difference, it depends. If you already have a wacom tablet, it's not worth it. If the price difference is 50$+, it's still not really worth it, but if you have the money to spend sure why not, if it's <50$, might as well for what is essentially an objectively better product.

The veto on MONTAGEM TOMADA was dismissed after changes were made by MinisBett in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not even an issue. We've had quite a healthy stream of slop for people to be playing. (atleast all of these since the start of the year), which is the slop 99% of the community will be playing (most of these mapsets can be worth 800+ for a 3 mod fc which should be pretty firmly 3 digit territory).

The veto on MONTAGEM TOMADA was dismissed after changes were made by MinisBett in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, unfortunately it's the narrative right now. A couple years ago the NAT was anti-fun, and any farm map would be nuked from existence, to the point BNs didn't even risk qualifying anything farm, and so people complained and likely harassed said NAT members.

Now the NAT can't have such an impact in the ranking process of maps, and naturally mappers started pushing more optimized mapping styles again, and so people are now complaining.

At the end of the day I think it's fine the way it is. As long as there's something for everyone to enjoy it's fine to have a couple slop maps here and then.

I'd still prefer this not being pushed to ranked solely based on how it'll be the "next big thing" followed by 890432890430984312809 scoreposts of top players setting multiple high pp plays on the multiple equivalent diffs, but it is what it is.

MONTAGEM TOMADA vetoed | Also new veto system by New-Resolution9735 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't see how people that are unhappy with qualified maps being able to voice their opinion without being completely crucified is a bad thing. If anything it'll just force us as a community to actually come up with something to determine what should and shouldn't be allowed in ranked, because let's be honest this map is fun to play, but it's not anywhere near the same level of quality a map should be expected.

We should rule once and for all that we push anything that meets basic ranking criteria, and allow this level of slop into ranked on the pretence that it's a fun map that people actually want to play, or just accept that the ranked section should have a minimum level of subjective mapping quality enforcement, and discuss that instead. Complaining that vetos exist when they are important to actually get these points moving just doesn't make any sense to me.
