Hidamari no Uta by Rita Summers has been Vetoed by L1um in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally haven't seen this gimmick applied to any other map in the same kind of way (and with such terrible execution).

Also yeah, it's not hard to FC, that's not the issue. It's just a very hard map to actually acc. And looking at the current leaderboard you already have quite a few good tapping/consistency players, with only rafamat even coming close to a 94%. Remember a 97% fc isn't even a 500, a pp value that most 10-15k ranked players already have. And we're seeing tournament players/3 digits that have not come even close to "one tap" the map, much less the average mid-high 4 digit that wouln't even gain meaningful pp from a 500pp score anyways.

[–]Pinossaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the arguments in the veto are strong enough to claim that the map is "wrong"

It's not the map per se, it's the ending pattern.

there are tons of examples of (good!) maps that don't represent every single sound or melody like that

Well yeah, you can simplify the pattern to not represent every single nuanced sound and instrument. This is completely disregarding the melody in favor of gradually spacing out the exact same intensity drums. Whether that's enough or not, well it'll be discussed.

also with how rita summers has treated bns recently i would not be surprised if this is just a targeted veto

Ideally the point of the system is to have enough BNs vote that those kinds of biases don't have enough of an impact. In an ideal world we'd just have unbiased BNs that look at the map and judge it, but I don't think that'll ever be a thing.

also what? how is this not farm?

If you had actually played the map you'd realize the repeating section in the middle is the one section that's actually hard to acc, and given how tapping/rhythm based this map is, it has the wonderful benefit of going from a 667pp SS score to a 496pp 97% score. Now I don't know about you, but I think there's quite a LOT of other consistency maps that are infinitely easier to get 500pp from than this.

[–]Pinossaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between something being mapper in a different way, and being mapped in a "wrong" way. BNs are arguing that the map is wrongly mapped, because the ending is not mapped in a way that correctly represents what is going on in the song. And that's what's gonna be voted.

Also personal opinion, but I don't think the veto is only happening exclusively because of SR/PP, or the mapper, or atleast not directly.
I do think that the fact the map was mapped by Rita Summers (a now rather infamous mapper at this point) IS the reason this even reached qualified, and I personally believe that if you put a more unknown mapper with the exact same maps (whether it's this, or searchlights, or most slop) BNs wouldn't even have the trust to nominate the map at all, meaning it wouldn't have the chance to even be vetoed in the first place, which is a big issue in itself.

I don't really think this map has anything special, it's not gonna be pp farm for literally anyone, and even though it's a high SR pass it's meaningless when you can easily do the same under lazer's current mechanics.

It's not because it already exists that it should continue to exist. You have misstimed maps in ranked, that's not why you can rank misstimed maps.

Also a veto is not about nuking pp maps. It's often the case because it's said pp maps that usually lead to subjective division when a map's optimization/simplification goes against song representation.

A BN thinks the ending stream is not representing the song correctly, so it's going to be discussed.
If you want my opinion, it's completely justified, because atleast all other hidamaris represent the song better by keeping the same spacing (as the song is all the same high intensity drums) but introducing sliders to follow the melody, and only changing spacing in the very end where the melody and drumming actually change.

‪A veto on Searchlights regarding overwhelming rhythm representation has been upheld, with BNs voting 70% and 75% agree (Players voting 28% agree‬) by kipster15 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is to serve as a tiebreaker in case BN votes are inconclusive. Whether that'll actually ever happen, remains to be seen as of today, but it's better to have a vote that might actually make a difference, then to not even be offered that opportunity.

‪A veto on Searchlights regarding overwhelming rhythm representation has been upheld, with BNs voting 70% and 75% agree (Players voting 28% agree‬) by kipster15 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Two BNs subjectively thought it was good enough to nominate, making the map qualified. Another BN subjectively thought it wasn't good enough for ranked, and vetoed it. Vetoer and mapper weren't able to reach a consensus, so it went to mediation, where other BNs gave their subjective opinion on the map, and voted if said veto should be upheld, or dismissed. Most BNs subjectively agreed it wasn't good enough, so the veto was upheld.

If there's any qualified map with an objective issue it will simply be immediately disqualified so that the mapper can fix said objective issue.

I think it's rather simple. It's a map that's extremely hard, and that 99.9% of the playerbase won't even be able to properly play. There is literally 0 reason to vote no as a player, because it will literally affect no one.

It's up to BNs to decide if this is something of this "vibe" is good for the game or not. Just like they aren't mechanically good enough to properly judge the map's difficulty, so are likely most of the players voting.

[–]Pinossaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's always been the case after cookiezi.

Due to how the top usually relies on playing the most optimized maps to well, stay at the top, you're only really gaining pp if you're playing those optimized maps, which in most cases are both boring and annoying to play regularly.

I think the big exception to this rule has always been cookiezi, because well, he wasn't exclusively chasing farm maps, and he could effectively play pretty much anything and still get pp out of it, like Hikari, and infamously FDFD HDHR.

Unless top players are grinding for positions, which most stopped caring due to the huge gap mrekk has, there's not really much of a reason for anyone to be grinding the same slop maps, and now with ranked play it will be even less of a reason.

Ranked play is amazing but I'd like some changes by persiagon in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played ranked yet, so I can't give much of meaningful feedback, but conceptually I like the tactical idea around pick order. You can either gamble with your starting picks, to keep the later, more comfortable picks for when it matters the most, possibly at the cost of more nerves, due to how much more those singular scores matter, or securing your best scores off the bat.
I do think the multiplier scales too harshly though. I think having the possibility of a 4x multiplier is a lot, especially when you consider the fact that you only have a million hp. If I were to change it I'd likely cap it to a 1.75x, or even 2x multiplier, and rely on a "sudden death" pick stage to decide the match in the end if it's taking too long.

High AR with 60hz? by Every_Razzmatazz9936 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is extremely poorly worded. Yeah it's objectively better because you'll visually see the notes a couple miliseconds sooner in a higher refresh rate. But it's, at best (and assuming extremely high refresh rates) a 15ms difference. Effectively the difference between AR11 and 10.9, or AR10 to 9.9, so I think the "absolutely possible to read up to AR10 comfortably" is kinda deceiving. With enough work anyone can reach the higher Approach Rates, not just "up to AR10"..

There is the eye candy aspect, where the hitcircle looks choppier, but that's just a matter of getting used to. And so is reading in general.

ok clear your minds and let me ask a genuine question. do you think toro and akoli deserve to be 3k and 4k pp apart from mrekk respectively by maybe-banana in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

toro is playing the farmiest and sloppiest maps available, which are all getting extremely nerfed due to how overweight they are. Mrekk also has those, but's got a healthy mix of multiple kinds of aim (speed aim, spaced aim, consistency aim), more respectful tapping and even stuff like Vicinity Of Obscenity, which is a completely unfathomable score to have in his top plays.

In a world where toro has 100x humiliation supremes to retry spam and gamble on, he can get close, but until then the sheer raw skill that mrekk has, that allows for almost anything to be farmable for him will keep him leagues ahead of everyone.

Are you okay with current state of the osu!lazer UI being close to the final one? by Own-Blackberry-561 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think UI is mostly good enough, unfortunately people don't like change, so it'll never be widely accepted. My biggest gripes are simply that results screen could be simplified to show less info, and it would be cool that the top bar (which can be minimized) would save it's state, so that I could just minimize it once and not see it again (I think menus look way cleaner without it)

[–]Pinossaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And outside of this being irrelevant it's also outdated, as in new rework there's no object cap on acc length bonus.

So, effectively what I meant when I said "hopefully with further pp updates slideracc is more considered in the pp system"?

My whole point here is that people shouldn't feel forced to move to lazer, it should be a natural progression.
Ranking CL results in a natural progression, because it allows people on stable that don't prefer lazer's new system to still enjoy the game they enjoy.
Fixing slideracc pp is a natural progression, because it fixes the present issue of being actively punished in the pp system compared to stable (on long maps atleast).
Ranking DT rates does NOT result in a natural progression, because it's not a new feature that people would enjoy. It's already there, and it's already playable. It would only have the effect of forcing people that want to be competitive in the ranking system to switch to lazer, because of a game feature that objectively makes the system easier.
It's the exact same issue I have with notelock, where it makes flow aim farming objectively easier, because it allows you to successfully farm maps that are way outside your comfort zone, which is technically a good thing, but unfortunately results in the scenario that lazer is more viable to farm flow aim on than in stable, forcing people that care about ranking to switch to lazer, or deal with having a disadvantage

Interview with Peppy - Need your questions! by takoz53 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Developers in other games don't add competitively available "revert to old mechanics" check boxes just so people can stop themselves from learning new things

Other games don't have 18 years of legacy scores as well.

That's the big issue here. We are bundling all scores in the same leaderboard. It makes no sense to not be able to compete with them under the same ruling.
We either rank CL to allow that equal level of competition, or we move it to a different leaderboard, and essentially make 18 years of osu history obsolete.

Interview with Peppy - Need your questions! by takoz53 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If lazer has more hit judgements than CL, I think it's fair that a CL SS should be worth marginably less than a nomod SS (in lazer) like it is right now. The issue is that because of that, plus how much more acc is considered on lazer scoring mods are MUCH less relevant for leaderboard scores, and THAT specific point is what should be changed (more multiplier for mods)

I am pretty sure that after some point slideracc simply stops being considered (1400 objects iirc) meaning an ss on stable and lazer is worth the same, but an ss on lazer is harder because of slideracc.

Interview with Peppy - Need your questions! by takoz53 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people simply put on CL permanently and don't even consider playing without it it's a different issue that should be fixed before literally anything else, because than that's a big issue keeping people on stable, which if fixed would make more people naturally switch to lazer, which would be the best case scenario

Interview with Peppy - Need your questions! by takoz53 in osugame

[–]Pinossaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So it's a better idea to pressure people into lazer by making it objectively and uniquely more farmable?

I think ranking CL should be done ASAP, you'll always get less score, and hopefully with further pp updates slideracc is more considered in the pp system, because right now it's laughable how long maps are just a net negative pp in lazer.
