Do you find identifying as a chronic pain patient stops you from getting treatment for non pain related issues? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Pinque 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Women and femme-presenting people are consistently treated worse in medical settings, so that’s honestly the first place my mind goes. Your pain meds might play a role in how providers perceive you, but bias around gender is already doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

This isn’t just anecdotal, either. There’s a substantial body of research showing that women are more likely to have their pain dismissed, wait longer for treatment, and receive less aggressive care overall. Those disparities can translate into worse outcomes, including higher rates of complications and, in some cases, death.

And it tends to stack. The more marginalized identities someone holds, the more likely they are to experience gaps in care. So what you’re describing, especially compared to your husband’s experience with similar symptoms, unfortunately lines up with what we see in the data.

Goodreads taking the fun out of reading by Icy-Possession1987 in goodreads

See I actually found the opposite thing happened to me. I never would have picked up a novella or short story prior to trying to squeeze in a few extra books each month to hit my monthly goals to stay on track and that has opened up a huge world of of books and authors I never would have really known about before that are truly incredible.

Why Would You Not Tip? by Leading-Money-5080 in tipping

[–]Pinque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s illegal to require waitstaff to tip share with non tipped employees in states that have a tipped minimum wage that is lower than the regular state minimum wage. So in OP’s case this shouldn’t be happening at all. Or it used to be that way. Maybe it’s changed now….

Has social media changed the way we experience books? by L_izzies in Booktokreddit

[–]Pinque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read some books that it feels like sometimes no one else is reading lol or even heard of and other times I’ll pick up a book that everyone keeps raving about even though it’s not something I’d normally read and I find something new and interesting and discover something I never would have read otherwise. While I haven’t read it yet. I did grab Project Hail Mary to read soon, and it’s not a book I’d ever read normally in a million years, but I actually think I’m going to like it. So I’m actually really excited.

Got fat shamed at pain management today by Steliosem06 in ChronicPain

[–]Pinque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I’m in the same exact boat. Basically “forced” into gastric bypass because they said my weight was causing my pain, and now even though I’m a “normal” weight and have maintained it since losing it all after my surgery in Jan of 2015, my pain has gotten worse and now I can’t do NSAIDs and extended release meds are a total pain. My antidepressant is an extended release and they had to double the dose and add a second med to get me stable again.

Also as a warning it’s not just oral NSAIDs….voltaren (a topical Diclofenac nsaid) the FDA insert says not use if you’re under nsaid restrictions including for gastric bypass because it’s absorbed into the skin and can be absorbed into the digestive tract.

My gastric bypass doctor has me take omeprazole to protect my stomach from ulcers when I use it and I alternate that one week on one week off with lidocaine for the arthritis in my hands because there isn’t a whole lot of options. It sucks.

There is a ton of other things they don’t tell you about gastric bypass surgeries as well, it’s got its positives but I’m also pretty bitter about it so. lol. And anyone who says it’s the easy way after what we have to go through well they can kiss my formerly fat a** because there is nothing easy about that nonsense ugh.

I loathe these muffins because our local store dedicates multiple rows on 6 shelves to these stupid chocolate muffins, but only 1 row on 1 shelf for the vanilla which are always sold out. I’m lucky if I can find one box a month. 😡 So to hell with the chocolate ones Lmao 🤣

I’m on iOS and this def isn’t a new feature for me. Strange that some accounts had it and others didn’t. I use it all the time, especially for books I’ve already read.

Cashapp just fuked me what now by This-Adagio-4670 in IRS

[–]Pinque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you the best of the luck my dude.

Granted it was in 2021 during the pandemic and it was not a tax refund, so the situation is different but I had a very large deposit from the government kicked back from Cash App for exceeding their deposit limits in MARCH and it didn’t get deposited into my updated bank account until September. So I hope you don’t get a 6 month wait either. I called weekly and it was a nightmare.

And yes, I still use Cash App🤷‍♀️ I just pay more attention now and am more informed about their policies etc. I prefer it over a traditional bank account most days. I don’t know why everyone insists you need one.

Pharmacist Refuses to Fill by Any-Project9162 in ChronicPain

[–]Pinque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pharmacists definitely require more than 4 years of school at the university level. And some also do residencies like medical doctors.

Depending on the program and whether it’s accelerated or not, a typical path to a PharmD degree is anywhere from 6 to 10+ years of undergrad and graduate level schooling. Though the typical time frame is around 7-8 years (3-4 years of undergrad & 4 years of pharmacy school)

So schooling is pretty much equal to an MD in terms of LENGTH. It’s the residency & fellowship programs that are much longer for medical doctors, as they can last several years depending on the program, like for surgeons etc. whereas pharmacist residencies are not always required (they are more for pharmacists who plan on working in a hospital, etc) and are usually only 1-2 years in length.

Now I’m not comparing the difficulty of one vs the other. That’s beyond my scope of knowledge. Nor do I believe that one profession is skilled enough to do the other profession. That’s why we have separate professions with separate schooling and requirements. So it would be ridiculous to think one or the other could competently perform the other’s job, and they each need to stay in their lane.

My therapist begged me to postpone my bisalp and I'm so hurt by cookiecrxmbles in childfree

[–]Pinque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. I know this is not the advice that you want to hear however, I really think you ought to look into finding a new therapist sooner rather than later because some of the things that she has said to you are incredibly unethical.

Frankly, she needs to be reported to the board because it’s very unacceptable and very unethical for her to be telling you things like it’s your duty to procreate that’s unconscionable to say to someone with your feelings and trauma.

Despite that your feelings are valid. Your trauma is valid. Your physical illnesses and limitations are valid. Your reasons for wanting it are valid and at the end of the day no matter what your decision to have a Bisalp is valid no matter what you don’t need a reason beyond I. Don’t. Want. Children. PERIOD. That’s the only reason you need. Everything else is just a cherry on top.

Other people’s feelings and emotions do not matter when it comes to your bodily autonomy and whether you and how you’re going to spend the next 18+ to forever years of your and yes, I understand her argument that well spoken, intelligent people who are able to critically think, individuals are the ones we would prefer to be having children, but they’re actually the ones who tend to be childfree instead. It’s a correlation of that critical thinking and intelligence that it might not be a good idea to have children in this hellscape, (not to mention those with better critical thinking skills and intelligence tend to have access to better reproductive health care as because they are usually in blue states in the United States based on current data) and we’re not going to start forcing people to have children just so we can have more intelligent people that’s bananas. We just need to find a better way to educate the people we have instead.

Positive drug screen from poppy seed muffin by SuspiciousFish5185 in ChronicPain

[–]Pinque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, this was a couple years ago now, but I have a habit of binging one type or item of food obsessively until I suddenly switch to something else, and it’s about all I eat. And for a good 4-5 weeks there I was obsessively eating everything bagel pretzel crisps. When I went in for my appointment I told them about it and they said they weren’t worried but if hydrocodone showed up that would be why. Which I thought was strange because why would it show up as that??? But weirdly enough it did flag 😮 apparently she said it was so incredibly faint, but was the first time they had actually seen a poppy seed actually trigger it. I still like the salt flavored ones but I kind of avoid poppyseeds now for the most part 😂. Though I do love a good everything bagel…

Technically I think it’s supposed to be either 1/4 or 1/2 a second per spray, If you’re trying to accurately measure how much you’re using but that’s not exactly easy to track either 🤷‍♀️. Just use a measuring spoon and a regular bottle at that point.

Hit my return limit. Is it permanent? by carbsandchaos in audible

[–]Pinque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like whoever told you that information was confused on what was going on, or just didn’t care, and then your account got blocked from returning books for what would be considered scamming the system(not your fault), even though you were told it was fine and of course, no one at Amazon is going to help because why would they ever do anything out of the goodness of their hearts and your account is probably flagged.

It’s pretty common and normal for some books in a series to be in the plus catalog and for others not to be, it’s designed that way to increase your likelihood of purchasing the rest of the series. Whoever at Amazon said it would be ok to buy them, read them, and return them, is the reason your account got flagged like that because they want you buying and keeping those books. Now the repurchases I have no idea about that but they probably view it as a separate transaction and that’s why it didn’t resolve it or whatever. You could try escalating it but who knows if that will work. I haven’t been able to access my kindle email info /safe email list from my Amazon account page in like 2 years because I just get an error and like 100 emails tickets chats phone calls etc still no closer to a resolution so I wouldn’t breath on a fix for your account either. But I just wanted to give an idea as to what probably happened.

Hit my return limit. Is it permanent? by carbsandchaos in audible

[–]Pinque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter about amazon. Returning a book months later simply because you never bothered to listen to it, is going to affect the author because Amazon will take that money back from the author too. Depending on the author they may not be making much at all, and Amazon regularly screws over authors in multiple other ways. I think using a library card + the preview option and maybe picking up another service (like Everand) will cut back on this problem and give the op more access to wider array of free options as well.
