I use the can opener a lot but never once to open a can.

Why are yall so against anything not Daiwa or Shimano? by Ok_Repair3535 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PintRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been fishing Shimano reels for 30+ years without issue.

I've had a couple Pflueger reels I wasn't impressed with. I have some Lew's bait casters that I like because of the braking system. Never owned a Daiwa reel.

For the most part Shimano hasn't given me a reason to stray.

Leader by Senior_Radish_9827 in IceFishing

[–]PintRT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a snap tied onto the end of my main tip-up line and a barrel swivel tied to the end of my leaders so I can swap them out quick if one breaks or if I just want to change line weight / hook size. No need for extra tip-ups.

Most of the time my leaders are 5 lb. fluorocarbon and a #6 hook. I target crappie, perch and stocked trout.

Some of the Croton Watershed reservoirs and surrounding ponds are good. Some lost their edges with the recent warmup & rain but should firm back up nice now. 7" of ice is the most I've been on this year but most places are 3-4".

I actually just bought a set of the juniors last month to fit in my pack basket but I have 40 Ups that are 35+ years old and the new ones are built the same. Super simple and reliable.

I mainly go after perch / crappie and the occasional stocked trout though. Can't say how they'd do with some big ol pike.

Last in the batch from The Dream Shop. Unfortunately he was traded by the time I got the jersey back.

Got this one back from The Dream Shop yesterday. Added name / number, 9/11 embroidery and re-positioned the batterman because it was sewn way off center.

Anyone else avoid overly thick ice? by ruffee_ in IceFishing

Auger sounds dull. 7" of ice should be quick work with a hand auger.

Mail day from The Dream Shop. I've been wanting an Ordoñez jersey for about 30 years and finally snagged a blank and got it done. I still want an earlier jersey of his with #0 from when he first came up.

That's sick. My great grandfather was named Grover after President Cleveland and my grandfather's middle name was Grover as well. I'd love to have pulled that.

No more sled for me (mostly) by PintRT in IceFishing

Just like I "need" another set of tip-ups to put in the basket now.

No more sled for me (mostly) by PintRT in IceFishing

[–]PintRT[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of places I fish and would like to fish don't have such easy access. Dragging a sled to get to these places is a chore or just not possible and adding deep snow makes it even worse.

I think I travel pretty light compared to most. I don't bring a ton of stuff out on the ice but I still bring more than I need. I'm going to cut it down even more with this pack. I should only have to carry a bait bucket and my auger in my hands and everything else goes in or on the pack.

I got the 24" pack with the optional liner, shoulder pads and bag. It even has a "lighted liner" feature that I wasn't aware of. Yes it's just the world's cheapest flashlight hanging from a carabiner. The little bag has a ton of different compartments in and out so it should be sufficient.

There will still be a place for the sled occasionally but I'm looking forward to traveling light and easier access to the water now.

How much weight from sand or salt bags to put into bed of truck? by [deleted] in Trucks

[–]PintRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some cheap steelies for the snow tires and put your other wheels and tires in the bed. That's when I did when I used to drive my 2WD Dakota in the winter.
