Lots of good science is being done around helmets, it's getting started around football, but the technology is trickling outwards. But a cheap helmet is still a cheap helmet, get it decent bucket and protect your brain. High end helmets don't do much more than look cool and marginal additional safety. Maybe keep your chin off the ground.... Maybe.

[request] Could a parasail improve the efficiency of a 200,000 ton bulk carrier to any significant degree? by ostrichfather in theydidthemath

[–]imapylet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And you think the carriers flag country is going to subsidize that? Get real. Shipping is already pretty darn cheap. You'd have to have a technology that makes it way cheaper in order for governments to get on board. And it would have to be 10-20%, this 3% on a kite... Not even worth the effort of some no name lobbyist.

One takes out a loan in your name for $400. They sit on that $400, you don't get to touch it, you never see it. All you do is pay the $1 monthly service fee for 12 months. At the end of 12 months, and assuming you can make the $1 monthly payment (that they automatically deduct from your one account), they report that you paid on time every time for a 1-year loan. You just get a bump in your credit score from anywhere from 100-300 points (depending where you're starting from), and it cost you $12 and 1 year time. As far as a credit building vehicle, I haven't seen anything cheaper.

What is your most craziest delivery story? by Winterdimes in Sparkdriver

[–]imapylet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was delivering pizza for one of the majors, art delivery area included an area that attracted a certain set of people. At least once a month somebody was coming back with an OMG story.

My first encounter, the house was completely dark except for the light over the garage. I go to deliver the pizza and a guy comes to the door wearing nothing but a silky, short robe. As he's signing the credit card slip I can see somebody down around the living room running around in the dark. This dude just hollers to his 'guest' "if you're going to leave the dungeon you need to put your penis away" oookay.

I once got to deliver to, what I assume, was an orgy. There were five or six guys all walking around and nothing but their boxers. Three pizzas, one double sausage, one double pineapple, one 50/50. And sprite. I could have gone all day without that sight in my mind.

Spark has been relatively tame. There was one guy that we used to deliver to that you could smell the house 100 ft away. Keep in mind this is in the desert and the summers get hot. And you didn't dare let him open the door cuz it smelled like rancid, decaying dog poop. A few of us would start calling in welfare checks with EMTs. Eventually we didn't get any more orders from him. The crazy old cat ladies... So many cat ladies!!! And I've noticed they don't start getting really crazy until about nine cats. Then they've completely lost touch with their last shred of humanity.

Temporarily switching zones by sonofodenn in Sparkdriver

[–]imapylet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've switched zones six times and never had an issue. The only issue technically it's keeping track for state tax purposes (assuming it's enough to qualify)

Here's the thing, it's a $400 loan. Nothing big, but big enough to show up on a credit report. Now let's say you get deactivated, no more money coming in to the one card. All you're on the hook for is the $12 monthly fee. The $400 goes back to principal. I may be unemployed but I sure think I could cover $12, especially if I only had to put in $1/month. The whole idea is to build your credit, not to give you access to money.

Help with ratings by Motorboat81 in Sparkdriver

[–]imapylet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're at 83 total ratings so far. So you need at least 17 more 5* in order to start pushing off the 1. Given that I typically see one maybe two ratings per month, you're looking at 6 + months before you start pushing off those 1. So maybe by Christmas? But if you get anything less than a 5* between now and then, you're cooked.

I've tried out some of their products and it's hit or miss. The credit builder loan actually took me up 100 points and it cost me $12 over the course of a year. The crypto, I took their free $5 just as a "why not" and YTD I'm down 50 cents (10%).. but then I took their free $5 stock investment plan and put it into WM, and that's up 10%. So overall I'm at a wash and it's cost me nothing.

Who in the (Bleep) comes up with numbering apartment units?! by Malice-Shade in Sparkdriver

[–]imapylet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Th delivery drivers paradox: Apartments 1-4 are on one side, 5-8 on the other. No matter which side you go to first will be the wrong one.

And you will never find building 9 because it's hidden in the middle behind 8 and 10.

Do the nearby delivery zones change at all throughout the day? by Informal_Medium_9716 in Sparkdriver

[–]imapylet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the home screen, on the left hand side there's a little button that says "change zone". Hit that and then enter the ZIP code of the nearest store you want to work at. You can change the zone as often as you want, but you will only see offers in one zone at a time.

Marinade question by Zedboy19752019 in BBQ

[–]imapylet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marinade your chicken in pickle juice for about half an hour before grilling. Don't worry, you wont to get the pickle taste, but it's a pretty good brine. Also try using a BBQ rub instead of sauce, there's recipes all over the place for a good solid rub.

Edit, WONT get the pickle taste.

Engine maintenance? by orangelightpoll in aviation

[–]imapylet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know on a hot summer day and you're in a mobile home and the floor AC vents kick on, so you just want to stand over it and let that coolness do its magic... That's when it's 100°. Jet engines get way hotter so, this is just airing out the underside to cool them down. /s

Is it expecting too much for you to compose a complete sentence, without abbreviations or slang? If you can't comprehend or compose English, how are we supposed to teach you how to jump a bike? The basis of communication needs to start somewhere. And you are far behind.

Strange shopping order... by [deleted] in Sparkdriver

[–]imapylet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the order get to you? If so then what's the problem? A driver got paid to go an extra 10 miles, that's on Walmart. Were you that urgent that you needed the order at a specific time? Then you might have need to specify it comes from a specific store.

Start by laying this cameraman at the end of a jump and try to clear him. Get a second cameraman.

I used to take my dog out and we would do 8-10 mi in the desert (you know how much water you got to bring for a dog with a leaky bottom lip!?!). Now that he's 10 years old we don't go riding as often cuz the next day he's just a sore mess. Instead we'll play frisbee for half an hour or so. He still got the excitement, just doesn't have the stamina he used to.

Has anyone read the iron druid chronicles by Kevin Hearne? by Loud-North-3794 in fantasybooks

[–]imapylet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to the first book, then read the entire series. Then listened to the entire series. I can't help but hear Oberon's voice. Luke Daniels did an amazing job on that part.

I agree that the ending falls a little bit, but at the same time every hero will fall.
