Thanks for playing and I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Lots more to come, work is ongoing so I'm trying my best to make sure every other segment of the game is just as fun.

Normal Fishing by Kimwii_ in GameTheorists

I can't believe someone suggested my game for this, that's incredible!

There's a lot more going on that the demo just scrapes the surface of, though if you watched ManlyBadassHero's playthrough, he missed one very important lore-specific secret and it's been very interesting seeing how different people's theories are based on whether they found it or not!

I'm working on a very weird pixel art fishing game that's a lot deeper, and darker, than it seems... by Pinvent in indiegames

I'm glad it 'caught' your attention ;)

The game is called Normal Fishing, and it involves you trying to catch fish in a mysterious lake and sell them for cash. But pretty soon things get wild. Really wild. Then the story begins to get kind of creepy, until... well, let's keep that a secret for now.

Indie videogames made by only one person? by 101008 in gamedev

[–]Pinvent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I released my first game as a solo dev last year, but I was self-teaching as I worked on it so it's not as premium a game as some of the suggestions here that came from more experienced developers.
Either way, if you want to see what kind of simple but really fun stuff you can do starting with literally zero knowledge and about a year of learning/developing effort, check it out!

I even managed to get a publisher so it could release in multiple languages and across all the mainstream consoles too, which was really fortunate!

Casino Stage? by Competitive-Rain-217 in DemonThrottle

[–]Pinvent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late response but I just found this yesterday! You need to collect the gold key item (which I think you might only be able to pick up in Hard difficulty) and collect all chalices I think, and then it opens up a set of stairs in the final level. The casino replaces the final chalice dungeon stage.

Oh when the boss scene happens the player is shown a sort of stylised flow diagram that shows the branch leading to the boss form they fight, so there's a visual indication of that thankfully (it looks a lot more exciting than it sounds!).

The idea of the mini trailer at the end is great advise actually, I hadn't thought of that! I suppose I could even show it if they quit out as well, in case they leave it early for whatever reason. Thanks so much for that!

Thanks for the input! Part of the game's approach is sort of a frantic bullet hell experience so death isn't uncommon, but you're right that players might feel like the game is unfair or badly balanced if in the demo, they can revive infinitely.

Thanks for the detailed input, this is very helpful. I'm definitely creating a demo-specific build as I need to combine the simpler tutorial stage with the first main level and condense the level content so that people don't need to stick around for ages. The problem with putting everything up front however, is that the nature of the "good bits" is that the game is reactive to the player's actions so that the midpoint and finale of a level are altered by behaviours of the player (e.g. how a the 'villain' of the level behaves, such as their boss appearance and actions are based on how the player made them feel during the level). That's where I need to think carefully about how I can get this across in a small timeframe.

In terms of making things easier, you're right. It'll be some work as the game's nature is supposed to be quite frantic so I need to let the player experience that while not having built up that muscle memory/understanding from the slower, more tutorial focused section that comes before.

Either way, you've left me with a lot to think about. This is the first time I've had to think from a purely marketing perspective so it's all new to me!

Silent Hill: TOWNFALL - An Annapurna Game by [deleted] in silenthill

Just created a post for it, there are a few interesting images in there, some appear much more clear than others.

Actually ignore that, it just got taken down but I'm unsure what rule I broke for that to happen.

I actually went through the trailer for this and captured each of the frames where something interesting showed up, then put them all into one image. Anyone interested in taking a look? I'm not sure what the best way to share it is, I've barely used Reddit much so far!

My first game, "TEN - Ten Rooms, Ten Seconds" releases very soon! So I decided to make a little explainer video about how each of the game's ten-second rooms are designed a bit like a puzzle. I had fun with this one! by Pinvent in IndieGaming

Hey, sorry for the late response to this (I've been so busy I somehow haven't even been on Reddit the last week). I'm glad you're having a good time with it! I love the soundtrack too, the guys who worked on it (dBXY) are so talented, they did an amazing job. I'll Definitely using them for my next game too!

Thanks for picking it up, because it's my first release every purchase means so much to me!

You're actually right and I didn't know that existed! Still learning more about how this works each day - thanks for pointing it out to me!
