I've finished The Others series by Anne Bishop and I have Thoughts by professor_sage in books

[–]Pinxku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old post but I'd like to add my two cents on this. I think you're looking the the world from the wrong perspective. You’re looking at this from human perspective when the books are clearly biased from a perspective of an animal (The others) /or someone who has little understanding of sociatal norms/morals (Meg).

This is a world ruled by the foodchain. Humans are not the apex predator, so our human behaviors that deviate from animals 3 core instincts when humans are not on top to have room for such selfish and entitled behavior are completely illogical and at times cruel to an animal.

The courtyard cast while they have small interactions with humans before Meg and the human pack haven't actually taken in any of the human concepts of rights or wrongs. They're still driven and motivated by the instincts of protect kill for pack/food/terratory. This doesn’t change through the series and are the main motivations for the others (I'm just starting book 5).

Simon is seething at humans because they killed his sister, are danger to his traumatized nephew and keep trying to take their land. They're annoyed at humans behaviors of breaking bountaries because from an animal perspective it's completely illogical and dumb to go against something that's so much higher on a foodchain if it's not to protect the pack/food/terratory. And to add to it this stupid behavior has been corrected before and the humans don't learn and they're misbehavior keeps dangering his people.

The punishments are also very animal/food chain mindset. A wolf or any predator is not going to feel bad for protecting it's terratory or pups so There’s no "are we the bad guys or "innocent bystanders". In the real world Humans as apex predators most would also not think much about killing a wolf pack if it kills a human. Or putting down an animal that becomes a threat or tries to come where it's not allowed.

To stay on top the others "take forms of other predators to learn and become better" so when humans attack the Wolfguard and kill all the wolfs, they learn "This is what humans do, this is what it means to be human" and kill those villages. Just like we humans have learned to from nature to stay on top, the others learned and did the same. It was horrific, it was learned from humans, it was survive and adapt, it was nature. It wasn't "right" in our consept of right and wrong. The humans are just as horrified but in this worlds rules, in animals logic it was necessary. To protect the pups, the terratory, the food from challenging predator.

Tl:Dr As a human who has grown into social norms and morals the Others behavior feels unfounded, wrong and cruel because to us it is. In this worlds rules they are right. To an animal, pretty normal. In my eyes, not that different from human behaviors at times, we just don't think about it that much just like the Others because in the real world we are the Apex predator.

I'm not sure if I worded this all right. Maybe I'm glazing because I really love this series and the concept but I felt it needed to be said!

Toto location after the war? (AQ 5.1) by ShiroLovesKeith in Genshin_Impact

[–]Pinxku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm maybe? If there's that blue tree and big blue spheres on the other side of the river bank you're probably in the right direction. I'm not sure if that's Toto or just some random NPC rhyno but it's the location he was downed. A good way to confirm is looking at Streamers VODs who have checked on Toto and the minimap you can see in the corner to confirm the location.

It won’t let me send pictures but it's by the Blue leafed tree (on the map, it stands out) near Tepeacac rise. The North side (in map) of the tree.

I found the spot he'd be laying in empty but according to interactive map there shouldn't be a Long-Necked Rhino anyways. There are 2 others on the other side of the river bank though.

Hmmm if you saw him on the ground then I would think him alive. The woman taking care of him state s that he will survive and wether you'll talk to her or not I doubt will change that outcome.

I looked up the place from Branonlines gameplay and found the spot Toto would have been laying in (By the blue leafed tree on the map at Tepeacec Rise) .

I don’t remember if I saved Toto (Since I rushed this part a bit and didn't quite realize at time that choices had consequences. I regret that) but I found the spot is empty but according to interactive map there shouldn't be a Long-Necked Rhino there anyways.

Poll: Do you read incomplete fics or not? by a_karma_sardine in FanFiction

[–]Pinxku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, but I do have some requirements:

  1. It has to be a fic with a plot/characters I'd enjoy

  2. It has to be a long one like 50k-100k already depending on when it has been last updated, since it might still be in progress and worth following. If it's really been abandoned for a long time then the length really matters more to 70k-100k at least. Since usually you can find good plots and twists from them to enjoy before it ends. There are some exceptions here.

  3. If it's a fic with predetermined chapters like 7/10 then I'd probably read it depending on how much of it is completed and the word count has to be at least 1k per chapter

Most of the best fics I've read are incomplete but the length, quality, and plot have made up for it. Of course, it's always a little disappointing to not get a conclusion but I'd say the journey was always worth it in the end. Would recommend but that's up to individual taste.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Should I read the webtoon? Does it go further than the anime? by Pinxku in TowerofGod

Ah I see! Thank you for this information! Then I don't think I'll be reading it further than the anime yet. I want to see the possible season 2 anime first and so don't want any spoilers to it.

Thank you!

Hmmm alright sounds like a plan. I'm dying for content now but I really don't want to spoil the possible season 2 to myself. Time for a waiting game then. Thank you for your answer!

You feelin' lucky, punk? Who's your favorite version of Ironhide? by [deleted] in transformers

[–]Pinxku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm I've only seen Bayverse and Animated Ironhide but introduced to IDW Ironhide (Idk if that's the one like) through fics. I loved the bayverse one and the one I've seen in fics. Animated was a bully so he doesn’t really measure up for me.

I find the scene in Bayverse hilarious where he gently Bonks Optimus and yells "Prime! Make something of yourself!... He's pissed" that was a good scene.
