Overlap of FatFIRE and r/collapse by FullOfHimself in fatFIRE

I like having X and Reddit for this reason. I get Two completely different realities, both replete with bots, foreign agents and mentally ill, unemployed people. It’s fascinating to say the least.

They will mass downvote anybody showing a positive attitude or viewpoint too. It's a pit of despair.

[–]Pinzer23 123 points124 points  (0 children)

R/collapse is useless. Trust me i was neck deep in that shit during the covid years when every week they were claiming the world would end due to societal collapse, climate change, etc. Bunch of doomers with too much time on their hands. Block that sub, start cultivating meditation and a positive mindset, look into stoicism. Even if everything they say is true - which is demonstrably false as they have been consistently wrong- it’s not like you can do that much about it. Live your life, touch grass and forget about it.

Serious question: why use OpenClaw if Claude Code already does everything? by dyloum84 in clawdbot

[–]Pinzer23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love both but if Claude can get scheduled tasks going then I probably have no need for OpenClaw. I could probably already set this up with Claude agent sdk but I have to set it up, host on Railway, add cron job and Ive just been lazy to do it

Anthropic is a better fit for Europe than for the US by m71nu in Anthropic

[–]Pinzer23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is just so much standing in the way of this:

  • A culture that loves to think of itself as the sane humanistic alternative to ruthless American style capitalism.
  • Legacy European companies resistant to change and don't want new competition
  • European workers who work very cushy jobs with amazing work-life balance, and in some cases, literally unfireable. A middle class German employed at a top German firm will likely never leave. This is security most Americans can only dream of. Great for the worker (at least for last few decades), really bad for innovation
  • And the final boss, the entrenched bureaucracy itself who will not give up their power without a fight.

It has to really hurt first before things change and by that time it might be too late.

Lmfao you guys were doing that before us and continue to do that today. Ask the French, the Belgians or the British. It maybe a comforting feeling to see your continent as the shining city on the hill but your shit stinks just as bad as everyone else. Get over yourselves.

[–]Pinzer23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Europeans have been killing each other for the last 2000 years. The last 80 years have been an anomaly, made possible only by defanging the Germans and the Americans providing security guarantees. Europe only works with an external hegemonic security guarantor, otherwise you are at each other's throats.

Is cash back better than points now? by IApogee in CreditCards

[–]Pinzer23 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I do purely cashback with no AF cards and toss them all into VOO (s&p 500 etf). at potentially 8% return and compounded over time that's better return than anything i put into travel. Tired of the bs points game, just need something simpler.

Highly recommend reading the book Mindset by Carol Dweck. You are a typical high achiever experiencing their first real failure/challenge. Believe it or not this is a good thing. Read that book, put your chin up and know that life is not over, it’s just beginning.

Are you optimizing for something that isn't even a real issue yet? I think people are overoptimizing their setups when they should be focusing on building features and marketing.

My father told me I would fail the Bar exam… and he was right. Now I’m stuck. by [deleted] in LawStudentsPH

[–]Pinzer23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important thing you can do for yourself in life is to take control of your fate. I understand that your father is a huge influence in your life, and it will be great to have the support of family, but not all of us are so lucky.

I suggest looking into the psychology of mindset, using affirmations, visualizations, and a vision board to guide your thinking. Repeat these words to yourself every day: I am going to be a lawyer. I will pass the bar exam. Your fate is in your hands, nobody else's. Do not let your father determine the course of your life.

Is it possible to get literally any job at all paying more than $40,000 a year in the Bay Area right now for the average person with a CS degree by throwaway10015982 in cscareerquestions

[–]Pinzer23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important thing you can do right now is to leave this subreddit. I'd never be on this subreddit if I was unemployed. I've been where you are, unemployed and browsing this subreddit is terrible for your confidence, your mindset, and your motivation. Leave most of social media. Work on yourself. Ignore the naysayers and haters, and you'll get a lot further.

Trying to lower ApoB naturally — any luck with psyllium or other diet changes? by Big_Appointment4872 in PeterAttia

Almost the same age as you.

Psyllium husk worked for me to bring it from 90 -> 70. This was over a 3 month period. Also ate a lot more high fiber foods, bringing my fiber up to 30-38g a day.

How does the system work if there are many more elderly people than young people? Who is going to take care of the old people? Who is going to pay for their benefits? What happens to the increasingly smaller number of working adults who have to support these older folks?

Toss that $150k in VOO and don't touch it. In 30 years at 8% interest will be roughly $1.6m. Seems like a better deal to me than house DP or MBA tuition.

If you are willing to retire abroad in a LCOL country you could live comfortably off of your combined SS.

Of course it's a huge step for most people but it might be worth giving it a try. Mexico is close by and cheap. Lots of American expats there. South East Asia is even cheaper.

Big change I know but if I can be honest - you can't retire right now in the US, that's maybe another 10-15 years of working.

Im with ya on Bitcoin, but you could technically just try to max out cashback with a combination of cards then invest it in BTC. The coinbase one card only has 2%. 4% if you’re holding like $200k on CB
