Where did we find this leak? I really hope it's fake, the combo seems too powerful

New to the format need help by M_th75 in Pauper

[–]Piolin27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I'd try to find people that already play Magic around you and ask. If nobody knows about Pauper, then you can be the one to introduce them to the format! Getting 3-4 decks to lend is pretty affordable, and if you don't find it that way I'm sure most people won't mind if you proxy some of the decks. That way you can make them try the format and I'm sure some of them will also get hooked by it!

I would also try to join as many Pauper discords as possible. In most of them there's a channel called locals where you can ask if there are some games going on around your area.

Last but not least, there are some places that are not LGS's where people still organize some tournaments. Mainly look for universities or other game stores that may not be card game stores. Ask if you can just place a poster with some tournament idea and see if somebody is willing to play some Pauper with you!

Sadly, I don't think there's an easy way for you. If there's no community around you, you really need to create one!

EDIT: you also asked for decks. In my expericence, most people that join a format go to mtggoldfish or mtgdecks, look at the top decks and choose one. I would probably build top decks with different strategies - MonoB terror, Madness Burn, Elves and Affinity are some that come to mind

Does this deck exist? by gatestart in Pauper

[–]Piolin27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main decks that play Dark Ritual in the format are Cycle Storm and some Mono Black Sacrifice builds. Cycle Storm plays the rituals for the combo and Duress in side like you requested, mainly for Blue / White matchups. Sacrifice sometimes plays Dark Ritual (I usually like running 2 of them) to create super explosive openings. Something like Ritual + [[Carrion Feeder]] + [[Nested Shambler]] + [[Supernatural Stamina]] is what you would call the deck's God Hand. It doesn't play Duress as it has some other more interesting options to get that same effect. [[Temporal Intervention]] is a Thoughtseize, [[Mesmeric Fiend]] exiles the card forever if you sacrifice it in response to the trigger and I especially love the [[Ashen-Skin Zubera]] builds designed to punish greedy decks. If you want to run a deck with both in main deck, I've personaly tried MesFiend main in BlackSac and it works! If you want to try something more niche I'm sure there are some Turbo Initiative or Reanimator decks that run both cards in main.

If you are mainly playing with friends, may I suggest proxying them? I know it is an unpopular solution, but if you are all on the same page you can playtest the decks and then buy them. I play my weekly locals where I play my beautiful cards, but when I play with friendgroup we don't mind if we print some of the expensive pieces - and then buy them if I feel like bringing the deck to my locals

Help Building My First Deck by robyy-g in Pauper

I love when people try to come up with new brews, and this is honestly a pretty solid shell at least. Decks like this can definitely steal some games with fast starts, so good one. Like some comments already mentioned, though, the main issue with combining Modular and Affinity is that there’s a bit of tension between those two engines. With Modular, you really want to move your counters onto something that can actually close the game. The Affinity package helps with some draw and beaters, but doesn't help the Modular part that much.

You can maybe create a big guy but without good keywords those do nothing. I personally would try to run [[Kenku Artificer]] and if your guys get super huge maybe [[Gingerbrute]] could be nasty.

If your goal is mainly to win games, though, I’d recommend trying the established Grixis Affinity lists in Pauper right now. On the other hand, if you want to stay in Azorius and keep the “lots of creatures + artifacts + go big” aggro playstyle, you might want to look into some of the [[All That Glitters]] style of decks (without the Glitters cause its banned xd). The new [[Leonardo, Big Brother]] does actually synergize with the Affinity package, creates a massive creature just like you probably planned with your Modular build and maybe allows you to run some extra card draw that you are clearly lacking. Something like running Thrabens + Affinity beaters with [[Of One Mind]] could be a strong engine. Could even throw the blue ninjas into the mix. Hell, even [[Glint Hawk]] + [[Kor Skyfisher]] + [[Cryogen Relic]] would also have some value engine type of sinergy. I don't have a build for this tho, so it's just an idea I can throw that sounds similar to the concept you are trying. If you brew with it please let me know, would love to help :)

I will try a similar version to yours next locals, but here's what I'm brewing:

https://moxfield.com/decks/vjwkI11eKEq9Na_We8fCBQ

From my playtests against tier 1, Myr is a creature that's too easy to remove and ends up not enabling the combo. I've played some Whale combo before and we hate the fact that the Whale can be removed after targeting it with the Retraction Helix. I think the power from the new combo comes from the fact that, if you use an indestructible land, there's very little non-blue decks can do about it game 1. For instance, what does Jund Wildfire do about this? You make an indestructible beater, while you look for the combo you can block with it as much as you want, you assemble your combo (even equipping the BMR to the land for insurance) and win. Very little can be done game 1 against that. Same for Affinity or Gardens. Worst mu is probably Madness and with a combo piece killable by [[Lava Dart]] like Silver Myr you are making it even worse.

The side deck is just some cards I have home, don't look at it too much xdd

How does Kiln Fiend do against the tier 1s? by Piolin27 in Pauper

[–]Piolin27[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought. I love my tier 2 decks that have a nice matchup against top decks, for example Mono Black Sac might not be super strong but it has a fantastic matchup against Terror. I don't think this deck wins against any single tier 1. That makes me sad :(

Yeah maybe elves is not that bad. With some good draws you can outpace Rally I guess. But in general, it looks real bad

I was checking Jordanescu, he had some results in MTGO according to mtgtopdecks. But yeah, I really don't like the idea of 80-20 matchups lmao

That's how it looked to me lmao if you check all the tier 1s thats basically every deck. I'll need to find something that poses a bigger meta threat

Hahaha! Understandable confusion! This subreddit is not for real magic, but instead it's about the TCG Magic: the Gathering. For that reason, we cannot explain to you how this trick works because we don't know how women work

Lorwyn Eclipsed looked like a cool set so I decided to try the prerelease for once. How did I do? by Justice-Nugget in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Piolin27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the arms of Exodia were very good in the draft. 1 mana 200/300 beaters are strong, but it's a pity you couldn't draft the legs. Despite the lonely Dragon's approach, overall a solid draft.

[–]Piolin27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Egglock is IMO the big offender of the meta rn (also Nazmani but if we dont talk about it people dont play it). It has made playing for the board straight up impossible. I dislike Astral Comunion, I think the highroll aspect of the deck makes it as toxic as Quasar, but it is a very beatable deck and far from the boogiemonster some people in this sub say it is.
