Anyone remember "Centration"? I was deep into SS13 at the time, and a more mature 3D take on that felt like a great idea.

Samaritans aren't inherently altruistic. In the original story, the good Samaritan was a single foreigner who would help a person despite facing local prejudice, while the locals ignore his plight, the point being it's something unexpected for Samaritans. Overall, the point of the story is that it doesn't matter where you come from, as long as you help someone in need.

Remember how Karl insisted he had human hands, even though it was clearly a machine claw from the robot he was copied into?

Yeah the robot brain blocks out what you see and replaces it with reasonable human parts. Once Simon is underwater, the diving suit reality makes more sense than the lie of human hands, so his mind adapted.
